I just got my kitty from here. The people were so nice and my kitty is purrrfect. I really liked going into the cat house where the cats roam free and were so friendly. It was hard to make a decision. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a pet.

I walk dogs at this animal shelter. It's a nice country road, I get a nice walk and the dogs love it. If you're looking for an enjoyable day, you can't go wrong. These animals appreciate the walk and it's fun to get to know them.

After reading reviews I decided to find out for myself. Last weekend I and my wife went to this shelter to look at dogs for adoption. We found a most beautiful mixed breed and everyone there was most helpful. We did the paper work and have received our approval. We are picking up our new dog next weekend. We live some distance away from St. Francis but it was well worth the drive.

Please do not let the people who work there discourage you from trying to find a loving pet with them.
It is not the animals fault - and the people are very difficult to work with - with zero people skills. Understand that these animals are dear to them - their babies.
Yes - I had a horrible experience with them. If I could give less than 1 star for the people - I would.
I went in last week and filled out the release to actually be introduced to a dog. I was shown 2 dogs - neither of which were "what I was looking for" but I did fill out a full application on one female. I was hoping that if I was approved - I would gain access to some of the dogs. I went home and emailed them my vet info.
Petfinder shows St Francis has 149 pets (all types) for adoption - but did not show either of the dogs I was shown. If I had to guess - I would say there are over 100 dogs on the grounds.
I did not hear from them until this morning - 1 week after putting in the application. My best news is I found my perfect match through Wisconsin Humane society.
When the lady found out I had adopted elsewhere - I received a pretty royal chewing out - nasty does not even cover it...
But it is the animals that matter - not the people. Please - every animal deserves to be in a home - even if you have to put up with the people who work there to get your forever pet.

I went to the Society Of St Francis before and was very disgusted with the overall set up. I have a lab and was looking for another dog she could play with. There is basically no entrance, just a large gate that says "No Trespassing"...After walking around outside for a while, a very impatient homely looking woman came to the gate and basically began interrogating me about why I was there. I explained my situation. She asked if my dog was fixed, and I said no because she was under 6 months old and the vet recommended I wait till she was a full 6 months to get her fixed. She began to snap that I was not "ready" to have another dog and I should come back when I feel like being more "responsible". I was so stunned. From what I could see from outside the gate, several dogs were outside in very small cages and did not look to be of good health. I talked to other people who had gone to this rescue and they all reported similar terrible experiences. One couple reported they found the perfect dog and the people began freaking out that it wasn't allowed to be adopted even though they clearly had stated any dog in this specific building. I would almost want to rate this place with a better review in hopes that the animals get adopted and taken away from this disgusting environment. And from reading other reviews, specifically the ones that say this place is "good", I can almost guarantee most of them are fake. I have never heard one good thing about this rescue....Probably the people working there trying to hype their sad rescue so their license doesn't get pulled, which I hear is in the works.... I just feel for the animals

I don't know what all these unhappy people are blabbering about. The guy who obviously lied on his application for a dog shouldn't expect to get a dog. A lie is lie. He lived with the dog and then told the reps at St. Francis he never had one. What a cry baby!! I donate to these people. They turn down the bad and adopt to the good. The animals are safe in that regard and at least won't end up getting dumped because a sloppy adoption was made. Keep it up guys. Do what's right and ignore the dumpers and cry babies.
I adopted a dog and the application was detailed but I understood it was for the good of the animals. I don't know why anyone would fill out an application and send their vet records if they didn't want the dog. There really is no excuse for that. Those people work hard and they don't deserve to have their chains yanked.

I got a dog from here 8 years ago. She recently got sick and the vet bills were too much for me to pay. The people at this shelter were so nice. Cindy arranged for the vet appointments and the shelter paid to get my dear Lady well again. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place.

NO Idea what-so-ever how Ms Cindy expects to ever properly HOME any of the beautiful dogs/cats on the website if she gets back to you with ONE or TWO word replies to letters sent in inquiring about available animals. I have attempted to get info on a specific dog now for 1 month - 3 messages.
Although I asked several questions about the dog to see if we are a good home for him, his needs, etc. Deeply saddens me to read these reports about her business and think about the poor animals that will never get the proper attention & love they so deserve.

If you are looking for a dog or cat, please look somewhere else. The owner of this business, Cindy Schultz, is the most callous woman I have ever met. I contacted her asking for help. I had a beagle that I had been watching and due to his aggression, I could no longer keep him and the original owners could not take him back due to having a small child. After giving her background on this dog, she laughed at me, called me and the owners idiots, and said I need to give her $450 for her to even consider taking the dog. She completely lacks empathy and compassion, and should not be allowed to take care of so many animals.

Please investigate yourself before you adopt from here. Here are many reputable shelter willing and caring to help you find the right addition to your family.
In my experience here at this shelter was less than very poor.
My story in short: I adopted a dog from here. My main concern was that the dog must get along with cats because I had an elderly ill cat at home. I was assured that this dog we adopted was that dog.
We got home and it was clear this dog wanted to kill our cat.
When we returned to the shelter with the dog before we even got through the gate, the owner was screaming that we couldn't get our money back. Which that amount was around $250.00. When I told her what had happened she said we were crazy.
I asked her to show me different. She denied to do so.
In the end - We regretfully returned the dog with no refund and no other dog either. I would think this should be some type of fraud.
We decided to take the higher road and not fuel the fire of this nasty corroded woman.
We have adopted several animals since that time from various shelters. There are many many nice shelters willing to help you find your perfect partnership with your new pet. Life is too short for hound and human to have to encounter such a bitter, nasty person who does not know how to communicate well enough to re home more successfully.

Animals are not properly cared for & misrepresents by asking contributors for vet $ & the time the animal has been here. Contact the Wi. Dept of Ag state vet to learn how to help the animals in our state.

This place is crazy
iwent there with a stray cat. He was a sweetheart and seemed to have nothing wrong with him except a little dirt. I went to the "cat" house and the lady was as rude as they come. I stood in the building for about 15 minutes until someone came out there to talk to me. The lady just stood there and stared at me for about 5 minutes until i asked "uhm are u the lady that im talking to" and she said " uhh yeah" with the biggest attitude anyone could have i told her the situation and she started screaming at me at the top of her lungs. "f****** jerk u f****** jerk" she repeated. The cats wemt running and everybody stared at her like they were surprised. But theres nothing to be surprised about this lady. If you go on utube the lady just got done being investegated by fox news for her crude behavior. I also talked to the other animal shelter that finally took the cat. She aaid there is a whole website on how horrible this lady is. I am curently having a herassment ticket slapped on her wrist and i was very hurt by her other comments to me like " your probably the mother ** that threw him out in the ground" and " u dumb b****" i was very hurt because if u knew me i am the biggest animal lover. HELLO? OR ELSE I WOULDNT HAVE PICKED THE STRAY HAT UP IN THE FIRST LLACE. My two cats are the fattest and most spoiled of amy cats u will ever meet.

I believe Cindy is doing her very best for these animals. I got my dog Jayda from her shelter and she turned out wonderful. Cindy is obviously putting her heart and soul into making sure some of the animals in this world have a good chance to get a good home. It's really sad to see her lives work and passion trying to be destroyed by some people when it's quite clear Cindy is doing a good deed for these animals. If there were not shelters like Cindy's then many more helpless souls would be euthanized daily like humane societies do. It's really sad how some people can't see the good a few do for the helpless, let alone gather and try to tear down true and good actions.

I have yet to go through the adoption process, but I've visited this shelter 7 times now to be sure I'm making a good choice. It's an interesting place to say the least. It is evident that everyone who works there loves the animals and has their best interests in mind, if not always the money to pay for those things.

While you can see they are doing their best for these unwanted pets, there are just so many to keep up with it's very sad to see some of them in less than healthy condition. I encourage you to look beyond the humans and facilities and open your heart to a new friend because you are their only ticket out of there!

PS - I've never been to a shelter where the cats were SO LOVING and FRIENDLY (and I've visited many shelters, in fact 3 just this week as I search for my new companion).

One of the reviewers here sends people to a cite called "Citizens Against Cindy and the St. Francis Animal Shelter. Don't waste your time. "Citizens Against Cindy etc." is not a group of people. It is Nicholas Haas Burkhardt sitting at his computer. Nicholas Haas Burkhardt has been harassing this shelter for years and is now being sued for the false and defamatory stuff that he has put on this site. His site is a big waste of time.

I visited St Francis a few years in search of another feline companion for myself and my 6 month old (at the time kitten). I found the whole experience to be wonderful, and the staff to be very caring about the animals. In fact they were so thrilled with how affectionate I was towards an older male cat that they discounted the adoption fee for him if I adopted him in addition to the kitten I had picked out. They also offered me a bag of cat food to help ease the initial cost of feeding 3 animals.I was very impressed and highly recommend ST Francis. They are hardcore animal lovers, and this may make them seem cold or strict to some, but to me it shows their passion for the animals.

I successfully adopted a dog from Saint Francis Society in 2007 and had an absolutely positive experience. The animals here are well cared for and the staff genuinely are concerned with placing animals in appropriate homes that are going to work out long-term. Yes, they will screen out applicants, but it is in the best interest of the animals. Saint Francis Society serve animals. I have found the staff to be extremely helpful in answering my questions even after the adoption was complete and the animal was home. And for the record, throughout the many times I have visited the shelter the kennels have always been clean and the dogs well-fed. And odds are if you see a sick animal here, it came to the shelter in that condition or worse. Saint Francis Society goes to great lengths to provide the best quality of life for animals in their care and the expect potential adopters to do the same.

I've adopted two dogs from St. Francis and both times I had no problems with any of the staff. I didn't have any troubles with the application process either. When we went to get our 2nd dog, we were able to take him home the same day. These people love animals and want to make sure they are placed in FOREVER homes.

The center is very easy to find. We were reserched the dog we were going to see first. We did not want to waste their time. They are very busy with so much work to do there. We were allowed to play and walk the dog we were looking to adopt. Everyone was so nice. Cindy worked quickly to get us approved. She was very nice and helpful. I am so glad we chose to adopt rather than to purchase from a store. So many good pets need homes and are just waiting to be placed.

This organization is terrible, we went in to adopt a dog, she told us it would take a week to get the paper work through and check out the references that we left behind. After a week we called them to follow up on the dog, they never started anything, going to be another week. Again the week goes by, we check on the progress, they tell me that they are waiting to hear from the vet on our other dog, and they where still checking refrences. We had a vet appointment two days later for shots, we asked them about talking to st. francis, they never received a phone call, fax, email, nothing from them. I called up the people we put down for refrences and again, they never talked to anyone. We called st.francis to find out, and they said they were still waiting for information from everyone, I questioned them about what the vet, my boss, and the other references said, and she told me they where all lying and that if we can't trust the people we are adopting from then we do not need to do business with them. These people reminds me of the soup n**i from seinfeld, except they deal with animals. Almost 6 weeks went by, we finally went to the humane society and adopted another animal, which only took 2 days, and to this date we have never heard anything from the people out there. Somebody should really look into there practice and make sure those animals are well taken care of, and find out what their issues are. I will never go back to that place, and I will make sure to tell everyone that I know not to go there.

I will never go back to that place, and I will make sure to tell everyone that I know not to go there.

Cons: no customer service, just terrible to deal with.
