Great time had by all..Good food, great service, a bartender who knows his stuff! Old School environment! We"ll be back!
Party of four went to Butch's last weekend.
We were all in a great mood.
Had a round of drinks at the bar. Bartender seemed impatient.
Sat at table, and one in our party was joking with the waitress.
I asked her for the winelist while she was telling us specials, and seemed annoyed that I interrupted her.
Meanwhile, her beeper went off and she excused herself in the middle of telling us about specials, to go fetch food from kitchen. That was fine, that she could walk away in the middle of telling us specials.
When she got back, one in our party, just kidding around asked what size shrimp they served. Most at the table were previously in restaurant business. She had no clue, and guy in our party, grabbed pickle from relish tray and curved it like a shrimp, asking if it was this size? She seemed offended, and told him he was now cut off. Seriously, he wasnt trying to be offensive, and yet it was somehow taken that way.
She then excused herself. One of us noticed the chef, had been staring at our table, from a few tables away, and waved at him hello in a friendly way. Then I noticed, he moved to view the other side of our table, the one I was sitting on.
Bad vibes, I encouraged us to find another steakhouse..not wanting a ticked off cook to cook our meal. We walked out and never looked back.
Unless you want the Steak Nat c to be staring at you and thinking NO STEAK for you, Id find another steakhouse.
Cons: Hostile chef
In my job sometimes Im forced to travel. Ive been on site in Portland Mpls Ft Wayne El Monte LA San Fransico etc. so eating out is always an adventure. I've had the bad bad and knock your socks off. I love to tell the story of Butchs, it usually starts with "In Milwaukee there is this really scary looking place but the food is outstanding."
Once you sit down you kind of have to laugh at how important service is to the staff .. truly once you leave you will understand how bad service is elsewhere. Today Ill be having the Steer Filet at 5:05 PM and Ill be dragging a first timer with me. I can't wait
This place is in downtown Milwaukee. It is in what used to be an old disco. Don't let that stop you though. A very relaxed comfortable place to enjoy great steaks. It was fairly busy last night but the service was fast and pleasent. Whe you walk in the door, on your right is the bar and cooking area. There is also a meat display case. We had reservations and sere seated in a few minutes. The best thing about the atmosphere in the dining room was no canned music. You don't have to yell to talk. Thw steaks were prpared the way we wanted them ind in record time compared to some of the other places I have been to. The prices were fair considering the amount of food you get. A fresh relish tray, and warm bread were on the table before you even sat down. All in all a very pleasent experience.
Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, very friendly staff
Cons: The menu seems a bit pricey.
I hear people rave about Butch's all the time, so I finally had to go there for a steak. This place in no way lives up to the hype. The first this we saw when we enter the store was this tacky meat case with cryovaked steaks. Not exactly classy. Your Pick N Save meat case looks nicer. The steaks were bland and boring. They came severely undercooked, and had to be sent back twice. You would think that a place that specializes in steak would at least know how to cook one. The baked potato tasted like it had been around for a while, but received a new one when we sent back our steaks. We overheard a woman next to us ask if her lobster was supposed to look like that to her husband, and could see it was undercooked also. I don't mind paying $40 for a good cut of meat that is cooked correctly, but this place is not the place. There as so many better steakhouses within the area to go to. Save your time and money for somewhere else.
Pros: Service was okay.
Cons: Food taste and preperation.
Butch's Old Casino Steakhouse is more than a great restaurant, it is a dining experience. The small, former disco reminds me of a Grandparent's mid-70's den- complete with fireplace and thick-pile carpet.
I loved the old-fashioned relish tray and bread basket. The martini was good and the service was even better. Every Butch's employee we spoke to was warm and friendly.
The shrimp scampi is unbelievable and especially perfect paired with the 6 oz. Steer Filet. My fiance had the lamb chops which were also perfectly cooked and delicious.
One mention to the hostess that is was my birthday, and we were served the most wonderful slice of homemade cheesecake (made by Butch's wife) complete with strawberries and a candle.
I cannot think of a negative comment about my experince at Butch's. I would recommend it to all of my friends... and then go along with them when they try it.
Pros: Ambience, Service, Perfectly Prepared Steak
Cons: Price (but worth it)
Butch's has long been my favorite Milwaukee steak house. Must start with cocktails at the bar. An Absolut Martini with a picled mushroom is my preference. Good bartenders, a chance to peruse the menu and experience the sizzle of the grill and hustle of the wait staff. Escargot is a great starter. Pick a steak...any steak...they're all magnificent. The pork chops are spectacular. Try the Casino chicken if you just can't eat the steaks or chops. Add a glass of dry, red wine for perfection.
Pros: Wait staff, Food, Not rushed
Butch's is consistently THE BEST steakhouse in Milwaukee! Named after the Original Old Casino Steakhouse, located on 5th street. My parents took me there as a young child in the 60's and I remember the same delicious food, cooked by Butch before he owned his own restaurant. The food is consistently good, and meals are filling, like they used to be. None of this a la carte BS where you have to pay extra for a salad and potato! Drinks are not overpriced, and they have an excellent selection of wines. A casual, friendly atmosphere accented with old antiques and experienced, professional servers. The free juke box is also a perk!
I was very impressed the first time I went to Butch's and I've been back many times since!
They have about the best cut of meat you can find in Milwaukee. The steer tenderloin is to die for. Service is fantastic, drinks are great, overall good value. It's a casual, comfortable atmosphere. Don't pass this one up! I recommend making a reservation on weekends.
A surprise awaits you inside. Upon first visit you will question entering, but once you eat here you will return again and again. Great Food with bounteous quantities and good service.
Pros: Moderate Parking, Great Value, Great Food
The best place for steak in the Milwaukee area. Every time my wife & myself go out for steak and decide to try a new or different place. we always finish with the same comment. It's ok but it not as good as Butch's.
Butch's is THE best stakhouse in Milwaukee. I've been to them all, and we keep going back to Butch's.
Pros: never too crowded, waitstaff not overbea, good service
great value, not overpriced drinks, full of atmosphere and bustling with activity. sports figures, politicians, national and local celebrities, owners of other steakhouses as well as visitors and local patrons can be seen nightly. friendly waitstaff. a must stop when in milwaukee.
Pros: good food, ambience, friendly staff
Cons: can be a wait, small bathrooms
OK, so the last time I was there the interior of the place reminded me of the '70's, but the food was great!
