I have been a customer of Monterey Yarn for the several years that I have been knitting and I would have stopped if not for Kathy. She has helped me through every project that I have undertaken and most times has sat by my side while I learned each and every stitch. Kathy and Julie are always so helpful when anyone comes into the store and they know their customers by name which always amazes me. Their selection of yarn is wonderful and they are always there to help you with colors and types of yarn. It amazes me that anyone can find fault with the owners.

I have been going to this store since shortly after they opened. I have always found them willing to help. They are very patient with both "novice" and "pro" knitters and never too busy to drop what they are doing to help you. You are always welcome to come in and sit and knit and visit. I have met several fellow knitters this way..They have a beautiful selection of yarn and strive to keep the prices as low as possible for their high quality products. The classes are great too!Stop in and see for your self. I think you will find Monterey Yarn Shop a warm and cozy place.

I have purchased yarn from this business a few times but as little as possible. Don't get me wrong Monterey Yarn has plenty to choose from, from company made yarn, to very expensive and beautiful artistic yarn to classes. The yarn is beautiful. However if you aren't in "the snobby knitting circle," you might want to avoid this place.
Each time I have walked into this shop I was either snubbed or corrected on something. One of the owners even placed her political opinions onto me, without considering the fact I might not agree with her. After purchasing a skein of yarn I asked if I could get it wound and the lady told me it was a waste of her time to do such a silly thing. Talk about rude! I have heard stories from friends who walked away in tears because of the people in this yarn shop.
I have been to other yarn shops in the area who not only have the same types of services and yarn for better deals but better customer service as well. They do carry some beautiful yarn and they are very much against child labor in China and for fair trade, so you know that their yarn is not coming from exploited labor: this part of Monterey Yarn scores an extra star for being conscious of that social issue. However, because of their customer interaction I would not recommend the new and excited knitter to come to this shop.

I could rave about this store for years. I went into this store with my mom, who knits scarves and I came out a knitter myself! They have the most awesome yarns and you just want to buy one of each becasue they are so great. They aren't your normal craft store yarns, these are quality yarns. So now I knit...not very well. But their staff with teach you how to knit too, which is nice. The prices are a little high, but all they sell is yarn, so I guess I understand why. If you want something different, or trendy, give this place a try. It is awesome!
