Absolute scam artists and jerks. Never sell anything to these people!!!! There are to many places to buy books to be treated this way. I had gone in to sell them a book that I had heard was rare. I looked it up on 3 different sites and it was selling for $2500.00 at the lowest. When I brought this book to them they offered me $5.00 before I told them I knew what the book was worth. I took the book to Chicago and sold the same book for $900.00 on the same day. Beware they are trying to rip you off!!!!!!!

The charm of an expansive bookstore are quickly lost on the sheer unfriendliness of the manager. This was truly the first bookstore I've experienced that made me want to buy from Amazon rather than a bookstore, which I was quite shocked by considering my love of book stores. The staff are much more willing to see you out the door with a handful of overpriced books than they are actually going out of their way to help somebody navigate the absolute maze of a store this place is. The older books on the shelves are also mostly in poor condition and immediately struck me as more expensive than they would be on Amazon used (which, even with shipping, I found to be absolutely correct). The manager in particular is about one of the most unlikeable people I've encountered, excuse my bitterness. He has absolutely no regard for the people that buy from his store at all, which to me is the most important factor of a bookstore, even before a great selection. I've witnessed multiple occasions where he's literally yelled at completely innocent and innocuous customers that he believed to be scamming him, after which he quickly showed them the door.

There is a Borders literally within eyeshot, as much ire as I know that attracts from book buyers, and two blocks past that on Plankington there is an equally huge bookstore called Renaissance that features an expansive collection and a genuinely helpful staff. Failing that, seriously consider Amazon. Huge disappointment.

Downtown Books is quite a store. To give a picture of it, Id describe it as a bunch of apartments converted into a bookstore is a way that only a regular to the store can understand. Books typically are about 30% of the cover price, although this varies a great deal in some areas. It is the perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening there.

I absolutely love this place. They have every genre of reading you may be looking for. They have so many books that sometimes you'll even find multiples of the same. They also carry some old magazines, which is a plus for me since I collect LIFE magazine. Prices are extremely reasonable. Don't be afraid to ask for help, as the shelves go very high up.

This store is filled to the brim with used books. You can literally search here consecutive days and always find something interesting. The prices are standard for used books and the staff treats it like a library, so you're allowed to peruse the aisled in peace. Ask for help with a ladder to obtain the hidden gems up high. Enjoy.

I love this store!! They have a TON of books. The have a wide selection of different genres that are very well organized. They also buy books, so check this out for store credit. The only pitfall I can see is that this place is not handicap accessible. Other than that this is an exciting place to spend the afternoon (and it will take that long).

PROS: large selection, helpful staff
CONS: not handicap accessible
