Recently my son had his wedding rehearsal dinner at this restaurant. To say the least, there were 30 plus people in attendance, with two or three younger children included. The service was fast, efficient, and mostly I noticed a very pleasing attitude of the wait staff. They simply couldn't do enough to make sure everything was at best, 'excellent'. The drinks were also excellent. As for the children present, they all seemed to have ordered some sort of pasta and meatballs. I specifically noted my granddaughter's plate which was cleaned up at the end of the meal. Another little boy there seemed to have been equally pleased and certainly did not go hungry that night. My two other granddaughter's, although a little older, were also very pleased with their request for a vegetarian offerings. No problem! As for the quality of the food which was varied throughout the crowd, all I heard was compliments. Not one negative comment! I can now see why this place is so popular with Madison's diners and why it is favored by repeat patrons. I for one will certainly be visiting them again.

It's funny. Suburban moms, and their struggle for perfection. So cute!

My first suggestion is to get the lowdown on the menu, BEFORE you order. So.... if the little one(s) can't do spice, do your due diligence. And, try to refrain from making blind assumptions (e.g., kids meals only come with fries). And, implying that the restaruant leaves you nothing healthy for your child. I assure you that, if you asked, they'd prepare something to your liking. (Oh, and you can get one of a myriad of "healthier" sides with your kids meal; e.g., rice, veggies, boiled red potatoes, etc.)

More to the point, for a city with very little to offer in the solid (food), $10-$20 range, Benvenutos does a pretty good job. This place does a ton of regular business. Primarily, due to cost/benefit, and the excellent staff.

The service is extremely-friendly, and generally-competent. The bar (if you're drinking) is dirt cheap, and has a nice selection of beer/booze. The menu is extremely-varied; which should be a clue..... Most successful restaurants focus on a limited-number of plates/apps/whatevs, and master the few. With so many menu items here, it's in a customer's best interest to ask around (staff/friends) for suggestions.

My suggestions: Pizza and Sandwiches. The pastas are inconsistent; although I like the Carbonara, and the Alfredos. The red sauces are so-so.

Sandwiches? The Salmon BLT rocks. As does the burger, and the Steak sandwich thingy. All of the pizzas I've had are good. The calzones are huge, and they're good, as well.

It's not a five-star restaurant; but it's Madison. If you're comparing to the national, mid-level chains (e.g., Fridays, Outback, Chili's), and you're leaning toward Italian, you could do MUCH worse.

And, the bathrooms are new, and immaculate! (At least the Men's.) I've seen worse out of five-star restaurants.

Seriously, dissing for "dust bunnies"?

Pros: Solid Pizza, Sandwiches

Cons: Pastas - Hit/Miss

My parents and my family went to eat at Benvenutos tonight. The restaurant was clean, slightly underlit, and cozy. Most of the food was pretty good, but in order to have a variety to eat one needs to order more than just an appetizer and an entree. Our steaks were good, but I could not taste a difference between my sirloin and my Mom's new york strip due to the pepper coating on both. My daughter's cheese pizza with extra cheese arrived with sauce dropping off the sides and just a handful of cheese in the very center. We wondered if they had doubled the sauce instead of the cheese. The sauce was so spicy she could not eat it. Knowing my daughter has a taste for pretty bland food I tried it, and I found it to be one of the most strongly spiced pizza sauces I've ever tried. Some adults probably like it that way, but it was not appropriate to be on the children's menu. For that matter, there wasn't anything on the kid's menu you can't find everywhere else (hot dog, spaghetti, grilled cheese, etc) and it was all offered with fries and nothing else. Wanting my daughter to eat better than that, we took her home and fed her supper there.

I suppose I would go back again if someone else was buying and try some of the other stuff on the menu, as there was quite a bit that caught my attention. However, I won't be back with my daughter for a looooooong time.

Questionable cleanliness of restroom (smell and dust bunnies)
Waitress clumsy with grating parmesan cheese, and said l am new, it is my 4th day.
Served herb bread, was ok, but we did not know how long the olive oil had been sitting in the saucers on the table
Meat lover's pizza (3 meats, 4 cheeses) was skimpy on toppings, and a good 2 " perimeter of crust void of any toppings. (Med size, $17, 4 adults did not finish it, it just was not that good)
Chicken parmigiana lacked presentation, looked like overcooked spaghetti with marinara and breaded chicken breast on top
We took 6 of us there mid-afternoon and Saturday Aug 11, we were very disappointed. No other patrons in the restaurant, should have been a red flag. Took about 5 min to be seated though.
