I have to amend the review which I wrote yesterday (which seems to have disappeared into cyberspace anyway). In my original review I mentioned the deplorable, awful "homemade" pie, the filling of which was this gelatinous goo that comes from a can. Well, I visited Brouxnellies yesterday, drawn there by the wonderful meatloaf and not planning, of course, to get pie. Before I sat down I took a look in the dessert carousel and the blueberry pie caught my eye. It looked really good. I asked the waitress if they now have a different pie supplier and she told me that they are now making their pies with real fruit and not using canned filling. So I tried a piece of blueberry pie and it was HEAVENLY!. I'm glad there has been a policy change about pie. Really glad. The prices are just a tad high, but the food is very good and now I would say - go to Brouxnellie's for pie. It's wonderful!

We've been going to Broux Nellies for almost 4 years now and often have Sunday breakfast there. It has been clean when we are there, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere and good, reasonably priced food. I recommend it.

I have to respond to the first post. Broux Nellies is not an ice cream store. The first respondent should have gone to Custard Corner. Broux Nellies has won Taste of Madison awards several times. It is a more than local favorite restaurant. The friday night fish fry is unbeatable, the ambiance is fun 50's character, I have never had a problem with cleanliness other than under the booth tables. It is a child friendly restaurant with crayons at the tables, special cups, and a pile of books for toddlers to early grade schoolers. Where else can you get a $3 breakfast? My business brings many people from out of town and requires them to wait a few hours, I always send them to the Broux and many of those have made it regular habit. This restaurant is a local treasure!

Was really craving an ice cream soda. Did not want to travel into Madison so we went to Broux Nellie's in Oregon just a few blocks from where we live. Very disappointing! There was NO ICE CREAM in their ICE CREAM soda. I have never heard of an ice cream soda with no ice cream!!!! My husband was not impressed with his root beer float. Come on, it's only root beer and ice cream...how can you not make that right? Secondly, the restaurant was not very clean and tidy. We came in the back door of the restaurant and the glass on the door was filthy. We were going to just sit down at the counter but it was a mess...daily newspapers strewn from one end of the counter to the other. Did not make us want to sit down and have anything to eat. The table we sat at was sticky, as were the plastic covered menus we were given. Also I noticed what seemed to be old spills on the floor near where we were sitting as well as scraps of paper on the floor. Just did not present a clean, appetizing place to eat. Will not recommend and will not return.
