While teaching in the SW part of WI I had the ocassion to chaperone a class field trip to Little Norway. Not being Norwegian, I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy it but I found that it was fascinating. It's hard to realize how our ancestors actually lived, and not so very long ago. It definitely was a worthwhile experience.

Wonderful outdoor walking exhibit. The "authentic" church is outstanding with aged artifacts as well as some of the other buildings you are allowed to enter with the guides. My daughter found the beds interesting because of how short they were and how high from the ground they sat. Some of the buildings you were only able to peer in the window or were roped off to maintain the integrity, but you still had a feel of the Norwegian lifestyle. Definitely would recommend seeing this attraction and just make a picnic day out of it.

After having been to Little Norway several times on grade school class field trips, I never really expected that I would like to see this place again. But somehow when you grow up, history becomes more interesting.

The same objects are there, the same general narrated tour is there, yet as an adult they take on a new significance. This is a very interesting tour describing the background of how they started doing these tours, how many of the Norwegian items were used, and a bit of the culture and art that was brought from Norway.

The tour guide is dressed in authentic Norwegian garments and is very well rehearsed in her narrative. However, she also has extensive knowledge to answer questions tourists may have on the tour.

At the end of the tour, there is a gift shop to browse through with many Norwegian items for sale. The prices are what I would consider high, as are many gift shops in the tourist industry.

There are also picnic tables to enjoy a picnic lunch after the tour on the beautifully maintained grounds.
