Never go to American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by HECTOR M.

I bought a 50" plasma last year on black friday from American and when i took it home and open the box the plasma screen was crack and the tv had a huge dent on top, so i return it to American and they told me that there was nothing they can do because i signed the waiver and that i had to damage the Tv, there's was no way that TV was damaged at there store. So i left with no TV and i was out $1000....got robbed by American! A year later and going back and forth with there corporate in Madison we ended up at court yesturady and guess what.....judge ruled in my favor! Got money back and made American look stupid!

Never delivered as promised and unresponsive

by Keith T.

I purchased a complete stainless steel kitchen from AmericanTV in Rockford Illinois on July 18th, 2009 with a promised delivery date of July 24th. We waited patiently and I finally called American on July 28th but no one would take my call as they were "busy with other customers". So I went into the store and spoke with the Saleperson Ron T and asked him when I could get delivery. He checked my order and told me that my refregerator was not in and the microwave was not available and that I could take the display. He did not know when the refrigerator would be in but agreed to call the next day after talking to his buyer. So on the 29th Ron did call and scheduled our delivery for Aug 5th, but we chose to move it to Aug 7th. On Aug 6th I received a phone call telling me that my refregerator was not in and that my range had a dent in it and they asked me, I qoute " What do you want to do" Seriously, this was not my problem and they should have come up with a solution and not dump this mess on me. So...beacuse they did not have an answer...my solution was a refund. Also, I have written corporate and the store manager about this issue with no reponse....so I am posting this on every site that I find with the goal of saving someone else from the misery we went through.

Bad service department and more

by Kristie J.

I purchased a $200 TV last summer. Six months later the picture went out. I had a one year parts warranty and 30 day labor warranty. When I brought it in I was told that they'd call me if the repair was going to be over $95, but a $42 inspection fee was due upfront. The $42 fee would be applied to the final cost of the repair or toward the purchase of a new TV. If I opted not to get the repair, if, say, the repair was going to be $200, or buy another TV from them, I would have to forfeit the $42. This was just a little guest room TV, but you'd think it'd last more than 6 months.

The service rep couldn't give me any idea whatsoever as to what the likely repair cost would be, which I find strange as his job is take in repairs. He had no idea how much it typically costs? Ballpark? They've never seen a TV come back because the picture went out? He was of no help whatsoever. He just stared at me.

Sadly, before I brought the broken one in for repair, out of desperation, I bought a replacement at American. When the salesman realized what my price range was he became impatient with me and even a bit condescending. When I asked what the difference was between two models he told me I could read the attached info cards. When I asked him if he had a personal opinion he said he didn't. When I decided on one of them, without even looking it up he told me that they probably didn't have one in stock! And they didn't. He seemed to know this, but it wasn't noted on the info card. Overall I got the distinct feeling that I was wasting his time.

I have to wonder what American is thinking. Everyone's on a budget right now. If they want to be rude to those of us who are buying the lower end items and then try to rip us off again when the shoddy items they sell fail, they aren't going to last long. At this point, I'm fine with that, since I won't ever be shopping there again.

If you do choose to shop there, make sure that you are very clear about their policies before you make a purchase. It's well worth your time.

Awful Service AND Never Buy American Warranty

by anand m.

I bought a Frigidaire dish washer with extended 5 year warranty from American. The technician came, talked to Frigidaire, and told me that the dish washer will be replaced by Frigidaire.

American opened a case with Frigidaire for the replacement. After few days when I didn't hear from American I called there service center and they told me that they didnt hear anything back from Frigidaire. I called them multiple times and got the same response from American for TWO months. Finally, I walked to the store and asked them the details of the case. Then I talked to Frigidaire and they told me that they will buy back the appliance but since the warranty is with American you will have to talk to them about the appliance.

American is now telling me that they will not refund me the warranty. So, I am stuck with extended warranty of an appliance that is not even working. The only way I can use the warranty is if i buy another dishwasher from American. Why should I buy another dishwasher from them now? I guess, to get the awful service.

Gist is I prefer to wash my own dishes than buying a dish washer or for that matter any item from them.

SHAME ON YOU AMERICAN FURTNITURE.

Stay away....!

by lisa c.

They may have good prices in one location, but I assure you - you get what you pay for! If you have trouble with an appliance, good luck getting them to help you. Sure they'll send someone to work on it - in a week or 2! And if you have serious trouble, they'll give you the 1-800 number for the manufacturer and tell you it's their responsibility, not Americans. I will NEVER buy from them again. I am out $4,000 because the appliances they sold me don't work right, and they are too busy brushing me off to Frigidaire and telling me they can't help me. STAY AWAY!!!

Sells Damaged Merchandise - RUN FAR AWAY!!!

by steve m.

bought an over-the-range microwave in stainless steel. Price was decent. When it arrived, the box was beat up and there was a dent in the stainless steel door. I arranged to have another one shipped for replacement. The second one arrived with the box all taped up. I open it and it was full of packing peanuts. General Electric does not ship their merchandise with packing peanuts!!! This too was damaged with a huge dent in the side. I called and they offered a 3rd. When the 3rd came, it too was damaged. IT had been dropped on the corner and unit was caved in. I told them I wanted this one returned also and wanted a refund. They apparently have been charging me shipping charges on all shipments, even though this was never disclosed! I am stuck paying returned shipping. RUN, RUN FAR AWAY!!!

Very large selection

by Nancy T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,528

American TV is conveniently located off the beltline.

They have a large selection of appliances, furniture, tv and tv accessories, computers and much more.

There is a door greeter who will point out where any department you are looking for is located. This is a huge plus when you are specifically looking for something and limited on time.

The show rooms are attractively decorated.

The salespeople are knowledgeable, although they do like to push the extended warranties.

Delivery is available. Deliveries to our house have always been within the stated time period with careful, courteous delivery people.
