I have quite a few pets.. cats and dogs. I also do rescue and grooming. I had two shelter cats that they diagnosed with a disease that was unusual.. They both had to be put to sleep because it would have been a painful and slow death.. but I was very thankful for their kindness and accurate diagnosis. I have been going there for the past 20 yrs. They are very caring and know how much my babies mean to me... My animals know them and love them.

Several years ago I found my dog Husky boy severely ill. I drove him to a local vet and asked if they would take him in; he didn't look well at all. The receptionist was rude but said they had openings and bent to look at Husky in the carrier. After seeing the dirty little mixed outdoor dog she suggested I make an appointment for later in the week. Her personality sucked. I drove straight Summersville, about an hour away. The animal hospital took Husky right in; they didn't have the snotty attitude or act like he had to wait because he wasn't a groomed house dog. After his examination the vet came out to explain what was wrong with Husky. I loved the personal interaction with the actual doctor and the staff all rocked. They really impressed me and I intend to take all my pets there.

I am very thankful for these doctors. I had to take my dog there and she was VERY sick. She had got into something and it was causing her to have really bad siezures and made her fever stay around 104 degrees. Those doctors took turns setting up there with her day and night for three days and saved her life. They did not give up on her. By the third day she was back to her old self thanks to them.

We brought our cat to these people she was very sick and we knew that she would have to spend some time in there hospital . They gave us some medicine to give to our cat and said take her home. We gave her the medicine and she died only 7 days later. If you love your pets don't ever take them too summersville pet center. the vet that is there does not care about animals.

I deal with this hospital all the time and the nearby shelter. This vet is fantastic. Prices are reasonable. He will not take animals out of the shelter and spay them or large quantities of animals (since they are SO sick from the shelter) but if you individually adopt he will see them. I take 10 to 15 there every month NO PROBLEMS. Very Nice people

This place is a JOKE!!!

They agreed to vet dogs from the local shelter when they are adopted, but they place SO many restrictions on them that you CAN'T risk adopting from the shelter! WHAT A RACKET!!

First, if you WANT to take a dog you intend to adopt to them for a check up to be sure its healthy BEFORE YOU bring it home, YOU CANT!!! They REFUSE to see any adopted dogs until they are out of the shelter ten days and in quarantine...because they MIGHT be sick!!!
W H A T ?
I'm sorry Arent you a VET? ISNT IT YOUR JOB to deal with sick animals?

Oh, so, I'm suppose to take the dog I want to adopt from the Nicholas County pound (A shelter they agreed to assist and is even up on the shelter's web pages as BEING the shelter vet), home to my other animals for 10 days and just HOPE its not sick???

Wouldn't it make more sense to bring the animal to the Vet, where you are required to deal with sick animals on a daily basis so I can get it its shots and spayed, BEFORE I take it home to infect my other animals????????? JUST a thought...being that you ARE a vet's office and all?

So, wait, if my other dogs then get SICK from having this adopted dog at my home, (as you well know even a vaccinated dog has a 10% chance of getting ill of an already ill dog), and your *excuse* of you have to think about the other dogs in the vet's office, because that shelter dog MIGHT get them ill... if my dogs get ill.. should I let them die since apparently I wouldn't be allowed to bring them in an risk your other clients????

I was actually told that several animals due to be adopted weren't because this ludicrous policy set up by this vet! Clearly its no longer that they care about the animals, but teh money!

PATHETIC excuse for a caring vet! They care about the money, not the animals in need.

We've taken our dogs to the Nicholas County Animal Hospital for years because it's been the only place within close proximity but I won't anymore. We've tolerated them so far because they've kept our animals at least healthy but not without charging us an arm and a leg. Just recently my 9 year old Golden Retriever had minor surgery to remove a cyst on his eye. They refused to give us a price before the surgery, citing it "depended on the scale of the procedure." They wouldn't even give us a ballpark estimate. Now it's 2 weeks after and my poor dog is dying due to liver failure... his blood work was fine during the time of his surgery but since he's refused to and moves very little. The anti-biotic the vet gave him has shut down his liver. This was never a risk presented to us, and the only alternative we've been given is a steroid that will either heal him or he'll just die in 4 days. I'll never take another animal to that clinic nor will I ever forgive them for what they've done to my best friend..

Hi,I breed border collies and if you go to the wrong vet for puppy care it will cost you a arm and a leg. That's why I was happy to find Nicholas Animal Hospital, their prices are good and they are very efficent and pleasant.I take all my puppies there now.Feb.2007 our 10 month old B.C. Clementine was hit by a car,we tried to get a hold of our vet,but we were unable to contact him.Clemmy was in bad shape,we needed to do something,We took her to N.A.H. and they were so good to her, they did everything they could, but unfortunately she died during the night. We were glad they made her comfortable and she wasn't in pain when she died.I shudder to think how much the bill would have been with our old vet,who wasn't very pleasant to deal with either.Bottom line... N.A.H is a good place to take your pet!Reason for 4 stars the office isn't as nice as our old vet,but it is clean.

I can't begin to say how much I appreciate and respect Dr. Joe and Dr. Gragg and all the girls at the office. I have 6 babies, I have a black lab ,Kaizer the King as I call him, who is 13 and has major problems with his legs, the staff and the Dr.'s have been so helpful and kind to him and I believe are the reason he is alive today. I have 5 others who actually get excited when I say we are going to see Dr. Joe and Dr. Gragg. ALso today I am picking up a puppy that was found hurt and these wonderful compassionate vets and their staff helped nurse it back to health, to take it to it's forever home in Tennessee. I just want to say thank you, it seems so little but it means so much, my animals are my life and I trust them completely to this wonderful bunch. Thanks again, for your compassion, please don't ever loose that it is what sets you apart from the rest!!! Debbie Jarvis, and Kaizer, Maddie, Lucky Girl, Scooby, BJ and Buddy

Dr. Krese, Dr. Gragg, and the staff are wonderful to not only the animals but to us owners as well. I have had several emergencies through the night and they have always been there to help. I read the review about the kitten and the owner that had previously worked for a vet and she wasnt very happy with her experience, I personally have gone to Nicholas Animal Hospital for 20 years and cannot think of one time that any of my animals was treated like that. I thank God that there are people out there that are as loving and concerned for the well being of animals as the Nicholas Animal Hospital staff is.

My precious little dog Shelly was VERY ill and I took her to Dr. Krese. He examined her/x-rayed her and discovered that she had a VERY serious condition called pyopmetra. She was in grave danger. Dr. Krese said that she needed surgery...which he performed. He called us afterwards and said that she came through ok and that he would need to keep her for a couple of days to give her fluids and watch her condition. She is now happy at home and we are SO grateful to Dr. Krese and Nicholas County Animal hospital for the wonderful care that they gave our precious pet. I would HIGHLY recommend this business to anyone that has a beloved pet in need of expert care.
Also...please read and be informed about this VERY serious condition in female dogs...it is Vital Information!!

I worked for a veterinarian for almost 5 years before moving to Nicholas County. We have 6 dogs and a cat now and honestly I feel more comfortable giving vaccinations and general care myself than taking them to that clinic. They have missed problems and staff seems to lack knowledge of simple veterinary medicine. They never really take the time to explain anything to you either. Its a big rush everytime. My kitten suffered for it last time. A shot that should have been given sub-q between the shoulder blades was injected IM after 3 sticks. To top it off, about .3 cc's wasn't injected. They only redeeming factor to the clinic is Dr. Kress. He has an excellent manor and is great with the animals. If I have to take my animals to the NAH, they will only see Dr. Kress from now on.

I have been taking my little Yorkie, Sassy to the Nicholas Animal Hospital since I got her. She is 7 yrs old now. They have treated her like a baby, and she is not scared when I take her in. My dog before her that I lost from attact from neighbors big dogs, was always terrified when I took her to another vet. before Nicholas Animal Hospital opened. It was all I could do to get him in the door. And then always had to take him back a few weeks later with something he got while on his first visit. No such problems here at Nicholas Animal Hospital. They are so gentle with the animals and talk in soft voices when they examine them, that they are not afraid. My dog does not like for anyone to mess with her. Here, she acts like she is at home. The always send reminders when shots are due. Recommend products that will help your pet. Never try to push products on you, like my old one did. I have never had to wait for long periods for my dog to be seen. My family members that have pets, take them to Nicholas Animal Hospital and no where else. Some come from towns that have 2 animal hospitals. The care and treatment here is better than I have recieved for my pets at any animal hospital. I have had my dog out of state on several occasions and had to take her to the vet. So I speak from experience.
