Been going here for 2 years, since moving to the area. Tried to like it, but the last visit was truly the last visit. Waited for table, sat down, hostess had just wiped the plastic cloth with a really strong bleach cloth. Stunk badly and the top was wet. Waited for a long time for the waitress, didn't appear in what I consider a suitable time. We left and I told the hostess she could have her table back. There is one waitress here who is no good. Takes offence when you question why she got the order wrong (previous visit). Sullen and slow. It was her table we were at with no show service. maybe if she left it would be a better place.

The best home style Italian cooking I/ve had. We travel all over the nation for good food but this one is right in our back yard. We've taken friends there who also rave about it. Good service, good prices and great flavors.

On Friday the 4th of june My wife, daughter, and I ate here for the first time. This is the finest Italian restaurant I've eaten at in years. Dawn the waitress and the other staff were especially friendly, warm and curtiuos. The food was out this world. the Chicken Marsala was wonderful, and the chicken Parm. was fantastic. This place is the real thing. Anybody that goes to the Olive Garden is eating fast food.

I live across the state line in Virginia but my husband & I occasionally make the drive over to this restaurant. The food is so good, every bit as good as you'd get in an expensive DC restaurant. The atmosphere is, um, unpretentious. Mezzaluna is located in a strip mall and is pleasantly decorated but not fancy at all. The location I guess helps keep their costs down, and the menu prices are very reasonable. The quality of the food is fantastic. We like the fried calamari appetizer. I like the ensalata caprese, and their eggplant parmesean and their pasta dishes. The dinner salad and house dressing is exceptionally good. Their tiramisu dessert is very good too. Their homemade garlic rolls are great and we sometimes get a dozen or so of these to take home to our teenage son who loves them.

Mezzaluna is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The people of Charles Town are really lucky to have it in their town. I have eaten here numerous times and never been disappointed.

I love going to the Mezza Luna. I am from the Baltimore area but it worth the drive. The salad and garlic bread knots are delicious and its a good thing they are bottomless! The dinners are large portions and there is always plenty left over to take home. Gnocchi is my personal favorite but I have yet to be disappointed with any of the other dishes. This is a family owned and operated restaurant with lots of charm. The staff was very nice and courteous. I recommend it to anyone in the area. You won't regret it!

Who'da thought that, in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, you can find excellent Italian food by a chef named Jose. La Mezza Luna, in Somerset Mall on the east side of Charles Town, is run by a family that has been in the restaurant business all their lives.

For a great salad, try insalata di pollo. The pizza is cooked to perfect crispness and beats any local pizzeria pizza. The pasta is superb -- For example, try the chicken cacciatore. The desserts are delicious -- My favorites are the cappucino tartuffo and the carrot cake.

One of their secrets is that all food is fresh, fresh, fresh!

Q: How do I know them so well?
A: I have dined there 87 times.

The previous reviewer mentioned cleanliness problems. My tables have been clean most of the time; a few times, I have found crumbs left on the table. The tableware and food have always been clean. I agree with the previous reviewer about the atmosphere, and that is the main reason why I did not award the fifth star. They need to replace their delapidated ceiling. Also, some tables are wobbly and can lead to a spilt drink, as I learned to my embarrassment.

The service is normally excellent. They have many business and professional customers who do not like to waste time. For best lunchtime service, avoid the noon rush (12:00 - 1:00).

PROS: Excellent food and service
CONS: Needs some renovation

La Mezzaluna is a small Italian restaurant located in a strip mall (Somerset Village) but food is consistenly good and prices are reasonable. We especially liked it when we could bring our own bottle of wine :-)), but they no longer allow it. They do serve an excellent Chianti, so not all is lost! Portions are huge so you might want to consider sharing which makes this place even more reasonable.
Decor leaves alot to be desired and, at times, I've questioned cleanliness, but there has been considerable improvement as of late.
A good choice for both lunch and dinner. They do not take reservations so you might have a bit of a wait, especially on Friday nights. Enjoy!

PROS: Good Italian food, big portions, reasonable prices.
CONS: Small, lack of atmosphere, not as sparkling clean as I like it!
