I really hate saying anything negative about any furneral home. Recently my aunt passed away and was taken to Vanreene Funeral Home, maybe because it was the only one in the area she had lived most of her life. My sister and I went to pay our last respects to my aunt and we were both very upset at the condition of this funeral home. It was the absolute worse one I had ever been in. The carpet looked over 100 years old, it was musty smelling and dirty looking. Only a few people were actually inside, most were standing outside the building talking with relatives and giving their condolances. We wondered why, when we approached, but after entering the funeral home, we could understand, the only place to set, aside from a small room connected to a dirty restroom, where the chairs placed in front of the casket. Some family members had ran down the street and brought back cups of coffee or a cup of water for those who were crying the hardest. They sat on the side walk and hugged each other and cried. There was barely room for flowers beside the casket, a place in the corner for the minister, which I couldn't even see during the funeral. They carried her out of the funeral home among everyone trying to leave, which was unthinkable. The guest book was behind the door, which we didn't get to sign because we didn't see it. Couldn't find the little cards with her obituary, had to get one from a family member. I have no idea the cost of a funeral at this home and would not care if it was free, I would never take a member of my family to this one. The condition of this funeral home made me even sadder knowing my aunt had spent the night in this place alone. Vareene Funeral Home needs to either close or clean up.
