Excellent Time!
The first time we did the white water tubing. A really fun thrill and very safe. The staff was very courteous and helpful. My only complaint is that they mentioned 5 times where you get off of the river. On the bus ride back, some dude (not too bright) was complaining he had to walk up a steep hill. If he had gotten out at the right spot, he would not have had this problem. So maybe they should mention it 6 times.

We also did the flat water tubing with the kids, age 5 through 10 with the rest of the group totaling 14. It was hot as heck out there and great to be on the water. The views were astounding and seem unchanged from when civil war soldiers crossed this river. I had a cooler tethered to my tube and the other dads and I had cold ones. We had so much fun we did it 3 times.

My advice, bring food and drink with you. You will be happier, the kids will be happier and to top it off, the River Riders staff will help you.

River Riders was the WORST experience I have ever experienced. My group and I went tubing and literally every few minutes we had to stop because one of us would be stuck on a rock. It made for a painful trip. We did do the white water tubing so rocks were expected to keep the rapids going but we did not have any more than 15-20 minutes of relaxation because we had to fight with the rocks pretty much the entire time. Along with the rocks, we had to fight with kayaks and white water rafts which made me feel really unsafe because being in a little tube doesn't offer much protection when a kayak rams into you (yes that happened). The directions for the exit was only on the wristband they give you and it is extremely ambiguous. There is an area about half a mile or so where apparently all the locals hang out and our group saw a lot of River Rider tubers getting off so we thought that is where we thought we were supposed to go...boy were we wrong. Once we fought through more rocks to get on the shore we then could see it wasn't the correct exit and we had no safe way of getting back into the water so we had to walk up the side of the mountain to the street and walk the 1/2 mile to the bus. The exit should be clearly marked if that many people mistake it for the end. My last concern is the locals that stand on the side of the river and scream rude comments. I pay for this attraction and I really don't feel comfortable bring my kids (recommended for 10 and over) down the river when there are people screaming about how we are dumb for paying so much money for a tube to float down a river and telling us to leave West Virginia along with some obscenities. I wrote River Riders a letter explaining my situation and its been 2-3 weeks and I have still not heard back from them. Terrible customer service and a terrible time. I recommend going somewhere else if you want to go tubing.

We scheduled for a water rafting trip with 3+ weeks of anticipation, and we had all set taking in consideration that we have friends coming from Puerto Rico. First, we went from VA in direction to WV. NO specific address was provided so we can used our GPS (no other than the ones provided in their web, that are not made for people coming from other areas). When we arrived to the area (1 hr before scheduled) we called the office; more than 3 times they hung up us. Finally when we contact the personnel, the ladys that attend us didn't know were the place was!!! We spent over an hour trying to find the place. Finally we arrived to area (we were late, thanks for wait for us) but they were not ready yet, still looking for equipment, no instructions given, etc. They said that for this ride, it included 1 stop and refreshments. It was only a "strawberry-lime juice" only!!!!
It was fun - actually we made it fun. They need to improve the service quality. And for us; as a group that already went to Costa Rica (best water rafting ever) this need to improve a lot.

Whitewater tubing was great and lots of fun. BEWARE if you do the all day canoe trip (6 hours). There is no way you are going to get down the river in 6 hrs unless you both row your butts off and don't stop to look at anything. It's a WORKOUT. If you stop for a second, you go backwards!

This past June my fraternity bothers and I took a weekend to escape DC and the enjoy outdoors. One of the brothers suggested we go to Harpers Ferry and try white water rafting. After a quick web search we made reservations with River Riders for a rafting trip one day and a tubing trip on the next. Our weekend get away turned out to be a great experience. Our raft guide Bill really made our raft trip memorable. The beauty of Harpers Ferry combined with Bill's history and wildlife commentary made it all the more enjoyable. After the raft trip we camped out at a Harpers Ferry KOA camp ground, built a fire, cooked out and enjoyed some good conversation. The next day's tubing trip was awesome as well. We rented a cooler tube and spent the day shooting the rapids in our tubes and enjoying the sunny day. All in all our two trips with River Riders were a great time...one that we plan to do again.

The best time ever until I fell in. Great staff, and great prices. I fell off the dock after the ride, and a River Rider staff member dove in and saved me. I cant swim very well, so I credit my life today to the River Rider staff member that saved me. Thanks for the experience and I will be back. My family said I have to take swimming lessons first, so it may be a while before I get back. But when you see me again, I will be a thinner river warrior (who can swim), ready to rule the mighty river that flows from the heavens.

Your River Rider,
BROWN

I've been to numerous tubing/kayaking outfitters over the years, this is by far the best on the east coast. All the guides were very friendly and the equipment utilized by River Riders is top notch! I have both been tubing and kayaking at River Riders, tubing was my wife's favorite. It's relaxing to just get out on the river with reliable gear, good friends, and soak in the sun and let the river take you away. I highly recommend River Riders over any other outfitter in the area.

....I just read the "unprofessional" comment below this one and i've came to a conclusion that Heather H. is probably hard to live with. Also, been to Butts Tubes, don't recommend it, had to wait a long time for them to get a bus that would start

I went with a group of about 11 people. One of our friends made the reservation online for 9 and two others called in to join the reservation later that week. They were told they couldn't not join onto the reservation (even though we were giving them plenty of notice) but they said they'd make a note on the original reservation. Once our group started to arrive, the first car was told that there was no reservation under the name of our friend. They were asked when the reservation was made and given a very difficult time by staff regarding the reservation. I was part of the second car that arrived to check in. The girl who waited on us was less than helpful or efficient. She stared at us blankly when we gave the name under which the reservation was made. She was very confused because of the group that had checked in before us saying that she already waited on that group- to which I replied that it was a reservation for 11 people and she had only waited on three (DO THE MATH). Then she didn't know whether this was a pre-paid reservation or not. I asked her if there was any way for her to check. She seemed very perturbed by this request and disappeared for over 15 minutes. Finally she insisted that it had not been pre-paid and that we needed to pay individually. Thankfully we got a receipt (which is hit or miss there). She disappeared again and we ended up having to wait again because she forgot to give us our wrist bands to prove we paid for the nice tubes. Finally my friend who made the original reservation arrived in the last car and was very angry that they were charging us full price when the website clearly promised a 10+ person group discount. After requesting to speak to the manager (who was defensive and not helpful), they kept insisting that we did not have 10 people (when we clearly did). The manager would disappear for 20 minutes at a time and refuse to speak to us. When we finally had receipts in hand and all 11 of us standing there to be counted (which is what the manager said was required to give us a refend) she then outright refused to give us a refund claiming we were being difficult. Meanwhile a few of us tried to order food from their overpriced food stand- the girl working it forgot more items than she made- my hot dog took 20 minutes. Two separate friends ordered grilled cheese and after 20 more minutes had to go up and remind the girl they had ordered them. This whole process took over an hour and a half to sort out and the staff was extremely difficult the entire time. They obviously do not have any organization at all. When it came time to pick up a life-jacket, I was handed a one-size fits all for adults. I am a very petite female and I said I wanted a jacket where I couldn't slip out- they actually grunted as if this was such an imposition. It's my safety folks. This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced (which is surprising because I have travelled extensively throughout Europe). Never have I been treated so unprofessionally. There are plenty of good river rafting places in this area- do not subject yourself to this careless place.

We went a couple of weekends ago for the flat water and whitewater tubing, not worth it. When we got there there was a group of people in the parking lot chugging beer and liquor, and this was at 11am. When we finally got on the bus after a 45 min delay this group was cussing and fighting all over the place, and the workers at river riders didnt seem to notice or care. I would feel sorry for a family or boy scout troop on this trip. Plus, you can do this trip so easily with out river riders, simply have two cars, park one at the take out and take the other car at the put in parts of the river. There is public parking on both ends right where river riders would take you. This way you can go at your own pace and not have to spend 45 bucks each. Also check out Butts tubes, they sell the tubes for like 8 bucks each.

I rented 2 bikes from River Riders Inc. and experienced nothing like the ad promised !!

The bikes were in deplorable condition. While on the C&O Canal the chains on our bikes came off 3 times on my bike and twice on my companions. The bikes were dirty and in poor condition overall. When we returned the bikes to the rental place and made a complaint and asked for a partial refund we were told "The Manager who does that is out just stepped. Just leave your name and address, etc. and we will be happy to refund your money."

That was a year ago and I am still waiting to hear from River Riders Inc. !!!

Do yourself a favor and take your own bikes or rent from someone who knows the value of a happy and satisfied customer!!

I have been white water rafting and tubing with River Riders. Their white water rafting is for very inexperienced rafters or maybe for families with kids - so I wouldn't recommend it for more experienced thrill seekers (head out to the Yougheny river in PA for that). But they have a really fun tubing ride, fun for a group of friends or for families. A fun time, highly recommended on a hot summer day.

Have some serious lazy summer fun tubing down the river with friends - you can bring the kids since the river is very calm. For the more adventurous take a raft and go white water rafting down the river, its a good fun time. This river is too calm for serious white water rafters, but is a good time for first timers, or families with kids (maybe 9 or 10 or older).

PROS: Fun in the sun!
