The best spaghetti in the world--best slaw--best cheeseburger---been going there for over 50 years--grew up using it as the food to compare all other eating places to...I now live in the Atlanta area and miss it very much-visit any time I go back. Years ago when I went back to Huntington to visit I upset my mother by going to JIM's before even seeing her.......Jim Tweel use to great each and every customer to make sure they were taken care of and knew each by name...wish Atlanta had something like this!
All I keep hearing after moving to Huntington was how great Jim's spaghetti was and you had to eat there. If you like spaghetti sauce that tastes like buger and ketchup then this is the place for you. The portions are small and the prices do not reflect the product. I have the "secret recipe" for the sauce, a friend worked there for a while, and I don't take the time to make it. They do make a decent fish sandwich but nothing overly impressive. If you want real Italian food pay more and go to Rocco's.
My husband loves this place. He grew up eating it since he was raised in Huntington. Honestly I hate it. I find the sauce to be very greasy. It upsets my stomach. I prefer more of a tomato type sauce. I'm probably one in the million who do not like it. It is also almost always packed and very small waiting area. Most of the time we are standing out in the cold waiting to get in.
A friend and I used to drive from Nitro to Huntington weekly to eat at Jim's. She moved away, but I still manage to make it there once or twice a month from Scott Depot. The spaghetti is awesome. It's not your typical spaghetti. The secret sauce is what makes the difference. The also have wonderful 1000 Island salad dressing that I believe they make. Service is fast. Food is reasonably priced. They also have other things besides spaghetti.
This is not a fancy dinner out. Spaghetti, ravioli, fried fish sandwiches, steak, and pie of the day are served up in a 1950's style Mom and Pops restaurant. You can sit at the counter, booth or table. The waitresses are dressed in uniform dresses (when was the last time you saw that!). Lots of people walking about and visiting, not a private meal. Photos of local celebrities and politicians who have been in for a taste of Jim's are fun to see . The sauce is not a typical red marinara- that is the secret to being the only place you can get Jim's.
Pros: great for a trip down memory lane, good prices, and a family friendly meal where you will see friends, Jim's sauce.
Cons: on street parking, must like Jim's sauce
Jim's Spaghetti is what I travel to Huntington for. Growing up there, one of the things that remind me of home, is Jim's Spaghetti. They have great fish, spaghetti, and steaks. They make there own sauces, etc. Totally original all the way around. They still have the feel of an era from long ago. The waitresses where white and they still have a diner type layout. A must if you go to Huntington!!
