Hunan Garden presented me with the most bizarre dining experience I'd ever had. To begin with, we couldnt' figure out why it took so long to seat us. There were two waitresses doing busy work - bussing a table, wrapping silverware in napkins, stacking menus - and about four occupied tables, leaving several for us. But we were told to wait.

Eventually a harried asian woman came flying out of the kitchen. Looked at us and yelled "table two!" to one of the girls. She grabbed a stack of menus and took us to our table with a look on her face that made you think she was going to be beaten if she made any mistakes. She apologized profusely for the wait and took our drink order.

It took twenty minutes before someone came to took our food order. It was the crazy kitchen lady. When I ordered pot stickers she said "thirty minutes" and explained how they had to thaw, be steamed, and be fried. That seemed odd -- I go to lots of Chinese restaurants and it never takes more than five minutes to get pot stickers. I assume they thaw them well before people order them; maybe even steam them and refrigerate them.

We skipped the pot stickers. I ordered a "hot and spicy" dish and asked for it to be "very spicy". It took another fifty minutes to get our food. Meanwhile, lots of people came and went with carry-out orders.

To cut to the chase: It turns out this one woman takes the orders, cooks the food, and runs the cash register. The two employees cower in the shadows. She does carry-out orders before dining room orders, so the locals learn to take the food home instead of eating at the restaurant. We watched another party wait 30 minutes to get their order taken, and when we left an hour later they still didn't have their food.

My complaint was ignored. She just talked about how busy they were on Friday and Saturday, even though we were there on a Thursday. She talked about how she was the only one there, even though it was obvious she had two other employees.

This is either a very sick woman or she just doesn't have the capacity to manage people. She'd be great at a little carry-out place in the mall, but she does a horrible job trying to run a full-service restaurant. And to top it off, the "very spicy" food isn't spicy at all and the other dishes we ordered were marginal at best.

PROS: Convenient parking
CONS: Average food; horrible service
