NCSECU - Absolutely Not!

by Citizen R.

I opened an account with North Carolina State Employees Credit Union upon relocating to North Carolina.I had been a credit union member in another state and enjoyed the personal service I received. Last summer, some suspicious transactions occurred on my debit card and we asked the credit union for help. We were keen to learn who may have obtained my debit card, and more importantly, how they obtained my security code. The bank representative insisted that we needed a police report in order to view the microfilm. We later learned this, in fact, was not a requirement and bank staff could have pulled up the film with a few keystrokes. From the outset, we had great difficulty with the bank's staff. A few months earlier, I became quite ill. At the time, I was handicapped. NCSECU staff were indifferent and made no accommodation for my disability. We were advised by bank officials to file a police report with the Clayton police. We went to Clayton police and were referred to Garner police. In Garner, we were referred to the Wake County Sheriff's Department. WCSO referred us to the Raleigh police and the RPD referred us back to WCSO. All the time, the bank offered no assistance.Ultimately, we filed a report with Wake County Sheriff's Department. We collated all suspicious charges and even included ones I was fairly certain I had made but had a minor degree of uncertainty. The medication I was taking at the time adversely affected my short term memory. All of this was fully explained to the bank and Sheriff's department. My father, an 84 year-old retired orthodontist went with me to the bank and police departments.Several weeks later we were contacted by a WCSO investigator. He invited me down to view the microfilm. Unbeknown to me, I was there for interrogation. I was never advised I was being interrogated, nor was I offered an attorney. In reviewing the microfilm, there were a total of 12 transactions. All of the photos were very dark. It appeared I was in the first two photos (even though it was difficult to say for certain), however, the remaining 10 transactions were several people whom I did not recognize. After 2.5 hours of interrogation, I was arrested for filing a false police report. I was handcuffed and taken to jail. I've never been arrested in my life. A week later, a colour photo, along with the charge, appeared in a community newspaper. Several people from our church saw the photo and it became quite an "item." We only filed the charges because Bank officials insisted we have a police report in order to view the microfilm.Ultimately, the charges were dismissed but do you think we received an apology from the bank? During the near six months before the charges were dismissed, I waited and worried. My mental health condition exacerbated to the point I could barely function. I became increasingly afraid to leave the house. I experienced daily anxiety attacks and went to the hospital several times. I lived (and still live) in constant fear that I'll again be arrested for without cause. Even though the charges were dismissed, we never received so much as an apology from the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union. They never offered to refund the monies withdrawn by the people in the remaining 10 transactions.

NCSECU only when you're doing well

by Susan J.

WARNING - DO NOT bank with this bank! Their customer service is awful; Jim Blaine, president is rude and obnoxious. I would rather put my money under a rock in the back yard than bank with this credit union. Thank heavens there are other banks.

NCSECU rates ROCK!

by Slug B. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,871

I've been a member for several years now and as interest rate market has fluctuated, the rates at SECU have stayed excellent. I recently pulled a significant portion of my funds from an internet bank and placed them back at SECU due to the rate stability.

Also, note that I now live in NJ and continue to bank electronically through NC SECU with no problem. The website is simple enough to navigate and the customer service passes muster.

If you can get an account, you should. It's as simple as that.

Mr. Michael L. former state educator/current federal employee

by Michael L.

I have been with the NC State Employees Credit Union since I was a child. My mother and father started an account for me. No way would I bank with anyone else. The NC State Employees Credit Union exceeds them all. Sometimes things go wrong in my life. I have to move money or send an e-mail to the service office. The people are so helpful and efficient. They respond promptly and let me know every things has been take care of. Thank you, Credit Union employees. I am thankful there is a bank that maintains low fees but excellent quality and service. Truly you are a blessing to people trying to save or who are either married or getting starting with a new job.

Wonderful service

by Patrice B. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,202

We have been with NCSECU for many years. Some of the wonderful things we like are the very low fees, low lending rates, many locations and helpful employees. Because you are a member, you are treated with more dignity and respect than when dealing with a bank. If you qulify, join this credit union. (If you are in the National Guard you qualify! You are a state employee too.)

Great for all your banking needs!

by Jessica G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,518

We love credit unions in general but this one is really geat! They always have plenty of tellers available so your wait is not long. The rates are the best around and they offer special incentives (accounts for kids, vacation, etc). We love banking here. Bonus--lots of ATM locations around town!

Best bank out there for those who qualify

by Kelly M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,950

NCSECU is for NC state employee's and their families. Their interest rates are some of the best ones I have seen and their ATMs (Cashpoint) are fee free for anyone who uses them. If you can qualify for an account with NCSECU, I would highly recommend them. The locations are fairly convenient and they have lots of ATMs throughout the state.
