Plato's Closet is CRAP!
by jessica j.
I have bought and sold many clothes to the Plato's in burnsville. Every time I go in there the workers are rude and no one is there to help you. The clothes are over priced. Also one time i brought a bag full of stuff in to the store, at least twenty or so items, all name brand and only worn about one to two times and a few wallets and they only took two wallets and a t shirt and gave me $4 for those items! What the heck?! If i would have counted up how much money i spent on those three items, it would have been over $90!!!, And i only got $4 for them. I will never sell or buy anything from there ever again.

Plato's Closet Review (Burnsville)
by L K.
I used to work at Plato's Closet in Burnsville and all the reviews I read about the store are absolutely true! It makes me laugh. But the selection of clothe is very good! It's much cheaper then the actual stores, unless you shop on sale at Khols/Target, then it's about the same price. But they have nice, brand name tops for under ten dollars, jeans and sweatshirts for under thirty. Although it may seem pricey, keep in mind that it's brands such as Buckle, Hollister, and Abercrombie, which are really expensive if you buy them from the actual stores. The Burnsville Plato's is very picky when it comes to buying clothe, we only try to take the best out of the bunch, which is really for the customers own good. That way the customers have a nicer collection to choose from! I hated working there because all day we had to listen to 101.3 and 96.3 NOTHING else! The songs on those stations are dirty and use offensive language. I'm an eighteen year old, but even I think that we should listen to something else. I mean, parents with small children come in to the store, I think we set a bad example for the youth! Also the managers are very rude, especially the owner of the store, Sue. I never had a problem with management, just because I needed the job. But in my heart, I disagreed with the way they treated the employees and the customers. I have been taught that customers come first and should be treated well if you want their business. The employees are crabby and sometimes rude to the customers (although I was always nice, haha). But that's probably because they get paid $6.25 an hour and are expected to do the managers job! Like closing the store, counting registers, dealing with rude customers, staying two hours after work, dealing with power failure, and fixing computers by calling the help desk and all of this for $6.25 an hour! I know I had to do all of the above more than once!! The greedy Sue raised my pay to $6.55 after two years and only because minimum wage went up :P But if all you care about is good deals on brand name clothing, then I do suggest that you check out the store!! The store definitely has some nice things! And many customers do leave happy! In conclusion I'd like to say don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself ;]PROS: Cheap brand name clothing.CONS: Ethically challenged management/employees.

Eh. Mediocre at best.
by C B.
I brought in two bags of nice clothes. Apparently, not enough. I think they took a few shirts, a pair of jeans and a sundress. I was shocked, because the items they took were my least favorite items, and the ones furthest from what I thought they'd take. They sent me back with a bag full of clothes from GAP, J. Crew, Old Navy, etc. I know those aren't the favorite brands of teens, but they were nice clothes. The employees were far from helpful and were very rude, they would barely interact with you. Minimal conversation or question answering at best. The store was very messy and the employees were just throwing clothes around. Anyways, it was not the best consignment/resale place I've been. I'd choose a different location.

This is how a real business works people
by jeff f.
I brought two big boxes of super nice clothes to Platos in burnsville today. They only took about 8 pairs of jeans, size 3. So what...Who Cares... these are the ones they liked, wanted and thought might sell well. If they always bought everything from you, they would have so much non-selling overhead that they would go out of business real fast. I am glad I could help out a local small company and help them grow a bit. I was hoping they'd buy alot more, but don't we all? Your local grocer or butcher store doesn't complain to your face because you only bought 2 lbs of beef when they have 5,000 lbs of beef for sale. If that were the case we'd all hate each other.

VERY RUDE OWNER AND DITZY EMPLOYESS!!
by Lisa N.
I called Plato's Closet in Burnsville to ask a few very straight forward questions. The girl that answered the phone was completely ditzy and didn't answer the questions I was asking. She sounded like she was 12 and had no common sense or customer service skills. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told to talk to the owner Sue. Sue was unbelievably rude and seemed inconvenienced that I was asking her how her process worked. First of all, if she hired competent employees, I would not have to go to her with simple questions. The fact that she was so very nasty to me tells me there is no reason for me to ever go into her store. I never did find out how it worked (consignment/buying outright etc.) but it doesn't matter anymore. I would not bring my clothes into Plato's Closet, nor would I buy from them. They just lost what could have been a very good customer.
Shame on you Sue as a manager and owner for not knowing how to hire and train your staff. Shame on you as well for being such a RUDE human being!!!

Manager was very rude
by Robin M.
Today we brought several bags of designer clothes in to see if the store was interested in buying a few. We didn't expect much, but hoped for a couple bucks. Instead we got treated rudely by THE MANAGER!!! We have been buying clothes from this store for years and never tried to sell anything to them until today. She didn't even look at one of our bags of clothes. When I asked her about it, she didn't look me in the eye, just kept typing on her computer, and responded crassly "I checked them all". For some reason she had a bad attitude toward us. We watched the other sales associate offer decent money to other customers for clothes that weren't near as nice. I will drive out of my way to avoid this location and you should too!

plato's is a good store
by candace m.
Plato's is a great store to shop at for cute, good quality clothes. When I first heard of a store that sold used clothes I thought, yuck, all the clothes are probably worn and old. One of my friends told me otherwise, so I decided to check it out. There was a pair of $100 jeans there for $14, they were adorable!! they soon became my new favorite jeans. Some people complain that when you try to sell used stuff to Plato's that they're to picky, but if they weren't then their store would be filled with junk, right? Although you can find great deals, Plato's still isn't perfect, I had to search through a lot of jeans to find some that fit me, and the store itself is not very well decorated, also the staff aren't very helpful.

Good quality used clothing for teens and young adults

If your looking for some name brand clothing for either your teen or if you are a young adult, then this is a great store to check out. There are a handful located in the twin cities area. They offer name brands clothes, shoes and accesories at reasonable prices. When i say name brand, i'm referring to tommy, gap, old navy, apostrophe, etc.
I have bought clothing there for under $10 each.
They also will take gently used clothing and pay you for it. If you know Once upon a child, then this is similiar except it's not babies and kids stuff. I spent a LOT of time laundering and folding neatly into boxes 86 items, including good quality name brand clothing. I brought in my four boxes and the worker shuffled through it so quickly, and threw most of it back into the boxes without folding it and without any care whatsoever. Out of the 86 items, they took FOUR. I understand that it all depends on inventory and demand, but to be so rude and disrespectful was extremely frustrating. I don't know why I wasted my time.

Decent clothes

This store offers a good selection of second-hand clothing. The prices were decent, but definitely not cheap. The atmosphere is young, and loud. The music is loud and annoying, the staff were reasonable, but certainly not super-friendly. If you are looking for something specific, need to update your wardrobe and don't have retail dollars to do it with, it would be worth checking out. Not the best place I have ever been, but not the worst either.
PROS: quality of items
CONS: atmosphere is so-so

Bad atmosphere

It seems everytime I am in this store, they are playing very awful music. I particuarly don't like to shop in an atmosphere where every other word on the music playing is a curse word or sexual sound or word. I find this appalling. If the workers choose to listen to this kind of music, they should do it on their own time, not in a place where people come into shop.
PROS:
CONS: Loud blasting disgusting music

Plato's Closet has a decent selection, but the prices are nothing to get excited about and the store, employees, clothes, and location are all so BORING. Also, good luck trying to sell clothes back to them--they have very stringent standards.
