I first met Scott Hendrickson about 9-10 months ago, a few months before my only daughter was to get married. Her major transitions have always been challenging for me, as a single mom, and this one was proving to be a big one. I didn't know what role I was going to play in the world once she moved on with her life with her husband. I had not dated anyone since she was born (28 years before). Just too many failed relationships and disappointments and, because I lost my mother at a young age, I dedicated much of my life to her. So, while I did (and do) have a wonderful circle of friends (one of whom introduced me to Scott), I still was facing an empty life. At least that was my view before my first session with Scott.

I have been in therapy before, starting as early as 21 and then periodically over the years. I can say, without any hesitation, that Scott has been the most effective therapist I've ever worked with. He is wonderful at getting to the core of any problem I present to him. His manner is warm and caring. His approach is intuitive and creative. He recommends books or other professionals when needed.

He has helped me heal a lifetime of issues as a result of the death of my mother when I was six. I know there are more issues to work on, and I look forward to returning for sessions with him. I had to relocate for awhile away from the Phoenix area, and Scott was kind enough to schedule a phone session within 24 hours of my email asking for some time. By the end of the call, I was again feeling peaceful with choices I'm making.

I know that it was because of the progress I made with Scott that my relationship with my daughter is as solid as it is. And even more, I am in a relationship with a man now that I never dreamed was possible. Through Scott's guidance and wise advice, he and I have been able to work through issues that might have blocked this love from ever happening. I look forward to when my love can have the opportunity to work with Scott on his own issues, something that he's agreed to do only because he's observed my growth over the past several months.

I am so grateful to Scott, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with him will find it a blessing. I noticed another reviewer said Scott is expensive. I guess I'm fortunate enough to be able to pay his fee (I have insurance but the coverage is poor), but frankly, I have a great relationship with my daughter and a wonderful relationship that has been waiting for 28 years to come into my life. How much is that worth?

I've seen Dr. Hendrickson off and on for many years now. Initially he helped me work through problems I was having related to my mother's alcoholism. At the same time, I was going through some spiritual changes and he was able to help me with that.

I wanted to see someone, but had no idea where to start. One of my close friends is a counsellor, and while he can't be *my* counselor, he did try a little "mini-session" of Gestalt-style therapy to see if I thought that was something I wanted. I thought I did, so he recommended Dr. Hendrickson (didn't know him personally, but knew he did Gestalt therapy).

Dr. Hendrickson is very down to earth...he does get into your past experiences to a point, but does not dwell on them, which I think is healthy. He is very good at helping you realize *why* you think or feel a certain way, which I find to be very helpful in effecting personal change. I was very nervous when I first went in, but he quickly made me feel very comfortable. His office is very comfortable, with 2 big overstuffed chairs that you each sit in (as opposed to the ubiquitous couch).

I saw Dr. Hendrickson for quite some time, at which point he suggested that I probably didn't really need to see him (can't remember how he said it, but it was in such a way that I would have felt comfortable either continuing or leaving). I agreed, and quit coming. Some time later I went back to work through some things for a couple of sessions. I've thought about going back again recently, but financial reasons have prohibited me (he is not cheap, and I don't have the great insurance I used to have).

I also should mension that Dr. Hendrickson does *not* prescribe medication. That said, there was a time when we thought perhaps it would be beneficial for me, and he was able to recommend someone who could (in the end, I ended up not taking any).

PROS: Caring, makes you comfortable, very effective
CONS: Sometimes hard to work appointments around work, expensive w/o insurance
