I have been going Coastline SPA and South Bay Massage School both run by Dr. Kevin Dobalian for almost 9 years now. I have always enjoyed how professional and friendly staff has been. This place is the best kept secret in the South Bay. Dr. Kevin is a friendly, caring and professional man. If Dr. Kevin was in a bad mood on any day, that never stopped him from extending his great service to customers and even on days when he was extremely ill. Always here to help and cares about providing the best service for his customers. I referred him friends and family members as I found his SPA to be very relaxing, services very reasonably priced, students are very knowledgeable and great customer service. Dr. Kevin, if you are privileged to meet him, is one of the friendliest, great and most helpful man you can meet. He would go above and beyond to ensure his customers satisfaction. He would even go as far as following up with you with a call to ensure your experience was unique at his SPA. I would highly recommend Coastline SPA and South Bay Massage school.

Because this is the second incident at South Bay Massage College, I had to get online to share what just happened to me today. I called the clinic yesterday morning to book a massage for 3:30pm today. The man running the front desk that I spoke to confirmed the appointment and said "we're looking forward to seeing you tomorrow." I showed up 10 minutes early to a very quiet waiting room - no one was running the front desk. Different therapists came out to retrieve waiting clients until eventually, I was the only one left sitting there. I spoke to one of the therapists, told her who I was waiting for and she said "Oh - she doesn't work on Sundays." She then called my therapist and sure enough, she wasn't coming in. This was the second time I was experiencing a no-show therapist. There was obviously a communication and scheduling problem somewhere and because of that, I wanted to speak to Kevin Dobalian as the owner of the business. I called him from the waiting room and let him know what had happened. I explained that this was the second time one of his therapists was a no show and to my surprise he responded by being more annoyed that I was calling him on a Sunday than he was apologetic for my inconvenience. He said "Well, I don't know what to tell you - I don't know what's going on - and I don't know what you want from me. Besides, I'm home sick in bed and you're coming at me with complaints." Now, you would think that 'Customer Service 101' would clearly suggest that this was not the appropriate way to respond to a client. He clearly had no concern for me or my situation....but did repeat his situation about being home sick twice. As a local Manhattan Beach resident and someone who has been to the student massage clinic many times before, I was expecting a little more concern, action and professionalism from Mr. Dobalian especially as the owner of the business. Instead, one of the student therapists who came out while I was on the phone with Mr. Dobalian overheard the conversation and offered to help. She tried to call two other therapists to see if they could come in, but neither answered the phone. She apologized and explained she would stay if she could, but had to get to another job. Thank you Sara - I really appreciated your concern and attempt to help. It's very clear that the Doctor has a lot to learn from his students on how to go about dealing effectively and empathetically with clients. I go to the student clinic because it's within walking distance from my house, most of the students are great and the price is right. As long as you don't have to experience Mr. Dobalian on a bad day, I would recommend South Bay Massage College. But, as I experienced today, quality service is a gamble when he's involved and that's why I'm only giving out 2 stars.

This is a great place for an inexpensive massage. This is a massage school and the interns "practice" on paying clients. You can get a relaxing oil massage for about $30. The place is very quiet and conducive to good relaxation.

The is one of the worst kept secrets in the South Bay, since most people know about the college; the school offers great massages from trainees at reasonable prices. Located near the beach you can make a great day of going for a surf in El Porto and then walking up the hill to get a massage. They also offer more professional masseuses if you need sports massage, deep tissue, etc.
