Editorial Description by Citysearch
The Scene
A haven from the busy Westwood Village scene, this soothing space is done up in earth tones and decked out with murals evoking California's Wine Country. The ample dining room is divided into smaller areas for more privacy, while a pleasant patio bustles with pre-theater patrons and other well-heeled diners.

The Food
This New Jersey-based chain offers Angelenos a take on Napa Valley wining and dining. Oenophiles will appreciate the impressive wine list with more than 300 California varieties (35 are available by the glass). Graze on "little plates" of seared diver scallops or duck prosciutto paired with a matching wine. Entrees from the brick oven are simple but excellent, such as the juicy Chilean sea bass or succulent bone-in veal loin. A few dishes are tricked out with extra frills: Grilled Sonoma quail with fennel confit, micro purple mustard, Cabernet vinaigrette and blue cheese crema is quite a combination.

Nice atmosphere, pretty good food, easy to get into, nice bar  4 Star Rating - Very good

By kathy m. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,506

The place has a nice classy feel; especially the bar. The food ranges between ok/good and you can usually get in on a Saturday night at the last minute. Not my first choice but a good last minute alternative and perfectly serviceable for most occasions. A good place to meet someone at the bar.

Upscale business lunches meet here  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

Napa boasts a wonderful, up-market atmosphere with cool, chef-y food offerings, and yummy flights of wine. This is not, however, the place to go if you're not expensing it or if you want casual fare or a lively atmosphere.

extremely slow service, bad tasting food  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

By Anonymous Opens in New Window

The atmosphere was beautiful, decor was nice too, but the service was beyond slow. We waited close to 45 minutes after placing our orders to get our food. NOBODY came by during the meal to see if we needed anything (which we did). They were reluctant to celebrate my sister's 21st. I told them it was my sister's birthday and the waiter replied "that's nice".

When we finally got the food, it tasted lousy. Unless you're a fan of completely flavorless food or food with flavors that don't go together, don't eat here. We had to send someone from our table to personally go FIND a waiter and ask for salt and pepper--and LOTS of it.

Overall, I gave it 2 stars because they were able to easily accomodate our party of 13 in a semi-private area and the atmosphere was really nice; but the service was not so great and the food was terrible. Especially for the price we paid to eat here, I expected A LOT more.

good apetizers  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Jenny K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,283

The food is pretty good at The Napa Valley Grill. I had the foie gras apetizer. It's not as good as in France but it comes close... the entree was only ok. The names sound fancy but the flavor wasn't up to my expectations. The desserts are a bit boring and way too sweet... the wine selection is large. The waiters are ok only. The cool thing is they give you this dip with bread that's quite good.

Napa Valley 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

I had a baby shower held here and we had problems. First the menu was not set right and for the price (which was way too over priced), the food was not great. You're definitely paying for the atmosphere.

WINNER... most improved restaurant on the Westside... by Far 5 Star Rating - World class

WOW... what a resurgence this place has made. My office has been a block away since NVG opened and it's better now than ever. New management (summer '08) is much more friendly and professional and the chef really "gets it." The 40 minute guaranteed Business Lunch is a great idea and great execution and the dishes are as light and heathy or as plentiful as you like.... all with being created from some of the freshest ingredients i've had.

Happy hour has been reborn with great deals on food you actually Want and the wines by the glass are impressive. And best of all, they do happy hour 3-7 And 9-12.... perfect for pre or post movie or Theater.

I've been in LA all my life so you get immune to the touristy celeb sightings but the recognizable peeps that frequent NVG usually seem relaxed, unassuming and approachable... alot like the place itself and the menu. I went from visiting NVG 1-2 times a year to now having food and/or cocktails 1-2 times a week. Try the outdoor patio on a nice day or night

Pros: Service... food .... Calif wine list... Great for parties of any size
Cons: meals aren't inexpensive, but what is !?!?!

Definitely a 'reservations'/occasion type place. Fancy, quiet, upscale hotel like atmosphere. Professional staff, impressive menu and wine list . The corn chowder is not to be missed. I can't wait till I can go back and have it again. Selection of fresh fish. Cookie plate for dessert is great too.
