In defense of Dr. Daly

by Bonnie G.

I have never posted to a site like this before but after reading some of the dramatically negative reviews here, I felt compelled to write on behalf of the FABULOUS Doctor Cornelia Daly. Ironically, I was referred to Dr. Daly by our pediatrician when I boldly and wisely decided to ditch my "OB to the Stars" (who also practices in Santa Monica, albeit solo) at the late-stage of 7 mos. pregnant. I cannot say enough nice things about the care that I have received from Dr. Daly through my first pregnancy and delivery, a horrible and unexpected miscarriage and now halfway through my third healthy pregnancy. Dr. Daly is simply exceptional: her warmth, professionalism, advice and kindness are without reproach. As my family may be moving to London, I am nevertheless considering flying back to Santa Monica to have my second baby with Dr. Daly later this spring. I trust and admire her that much.

As my brother and many friends are also doctors, I find that too often patients expect their doctors to be miracle-working clairvoyants. Worried about flying while pregnant? Then don't. Your doctor cannot predict your body, anymore than you can. Concerned about your insurance coverage? Investigate it on your own - it isn't your doctor's responsibility to do that, it's yours. What you can expect as a patient is warm, professional and courteous care from someone who respects your intelligence and your body. Dr. Daly and her excellent colleagues (Matsunaga and Ross have covered with me on occasion and both are also superb) provide this without a doubt.

Dr. Daly should lose her license.

by Ashly S.

I came to Dr. Daly when I thought I might be pregnant for the first time. I informed her that I thought I was pregnant, and she told me that she didn't think that was likely because we hadn't been trying very long. She proceeded to do a cervical exam, which would have been inappropriate if I was pregnant, which as it turns out, I WAS.

We were leaving on vacation, and I called the office to ask Dr. Daly if it would be ok for me to travel to high altitude and fly on a small propeller plane, since those planes are not as pressurized as a larger jet. The nurse REFUSED to let me speak with Dr. Daly, and told me that she thought it would be fine.

I flew to Sun Valley, ID and had a very painful and scary miscarraige. I called the office, begging to speak do Dr. Daly, and the same nurse again REFUSED, telling me there was nothing I could do.

Needless to say, I never went back to Dr. Daly. I found a new OB, Dr. Sharon Pushkin, who is lovely and has delivered all three of my babies. She has always maintained that I should NOT go on a propeller plane or to high altitude when I was pregnant, and I have always wondered if the same advice would have prevented the loss of my first pregnancy.

I think that Dr. Daly is a lazy, negligent doctor with a hideous office staff. If you want to have a baby and you want it to live, please don't see her. Run as fast as you can to another practice.

Mangled my cervix with manual dilation

by marianne a.

I went into St. John's at roughly 2 centimeters thinking I was in true labor. It would have been fine to me and my husband to go home after finding out we were not in true labor. The next thing I knew, Matsunage (cannot call him "Dr.) came into the room, opened a drawer and stuck a long yellow thing up me to break the water. I was yelling out, "Stop, please i'll go home, I don't want this!" He said it's the best thing to do to just get you delivered (even though I was only 38 weeks along) and did not listen to me. I started crying (how humiliating) - he is a butcher, stay away He stuck his hands up me and twisted and turned until a bunch of blood emitted from my vagina - he then told me he opened me up to 4 with his fingers. It was so uncomfortable I also fell off the bed. He did not listen to me and frankly I felt like nothing more than a piece of meat.

Great care & comfort with Dr. Ross!

by Colleen A.

Four years ago I went to see Dr. Ross for my gyno care. I really don't like going to the gynecologist (who does?) but seeing her made all those bad experiences go away! She is so easy to talk to and really cared about my issues! She has also helped me find other great referrals and I know that I will have a long relationship with her. I have referred all my friends to her and they also love her as their gynecologist! Dr. Ross is wonderful and I highly recommend her!!

Dr. Ross is the BEST!

by Tammy D.

I love Dr. Ross!! I have been a patient of hers since 1998 and have seen all the changes the office has gone through! Yes, its a busy office but that is because everyone wants to go there! She has delivered all 3 of my children and her care is second to none! She is honest, kind, compassionate, thorough and bright. Her calming personality worked well with me since I get anxious about all kinds of the things! Another great quality that Dr. Ross has is that she calls me back regularly! Her nurse, Dani, is AWESOME too! Its an Ob/Gyn experience that you will value! Over the last year the craziness in the office is much better!! The wait time has improved dramatically!

Love the office, and the front office girls!

by Courtney L.

I think that every Doctor in this practice is wonderful. It is hard to pick just one Doctor to stick with. I have seen ALL the Doctors in the practice, and think that they are all wonderful. Unlike the person who had negative things to say about the front office, I think they do a great job! I think the lady who does the payments and appointments is great. She has never been anything but nice to my husband and I. We have had wonderful experiences with that office, and will continue having our babies there!!!

Dr Vogel is amazing!

by Eleanor O.

When I first went to see Dr. Vogel my husband and I had been trying to have a baby for two years!...Two months later I was pregnant!...She is a great OBGYN and very personable and knowledgeable with a really friendly staff and if you have any infertility issues she really knows how to problem solve and work out a program for you...She doesn't just throw unnecessary hormones at you and hope for the best but really looks at all aspects of your medical situation and works with you to come up with the best approach medically and not for her financial gain...I have also had my second child with her and highly recommend her to anyone that's looking for a very smart and honest doctor who really has your best interest at heart.

Good Doctor's, but...

by Anonymous

I saw Dr Matsunaga and found him to be very good. I will continue seeing Dr Matsunaga for gyn visits and other pregnancies ONLY IF the lady who processes payments and books you in for subsequent appointments is no longer with the practice. She is extremely rude and has put me off this practice entirely. I did however find the rest of the office staff and the nurses very nice...it's a shame about that one rotten apple.

Dr. Sheryl Ross is wonderful

by Anonymous

I have seen Dr. Ross since 1994, and she has seen me through many stages of life. She recently delivered my first child-though it ended in c-section, she and her staff supported me and my husband all the way in trying to deliver vaginally until it was unsafe for me and baby. Dr. Ross is extremely efficient, knowledgable, careful and caring. She has taken excellent care of me and always included my husband in our pregancy discussions, which many doctors don't. She has advised us medically and with great sensitivity throughout the many years I have been her patient. We will hopefully have another child under her care, and I will stay with her practice as long as I am in Los Angeles.

Ob/Gyn to the stars but not for me

by Anonymous

Based on a reccomendation I went to see Dr. Ross and I ended up regretting it.

The office is very nice but hard to get to. The office staff was always pleasant and professional. The problem was I felt like a number - like I was being processed through as efficiently as possible so they could get the next patient in.

I frequently had to wait more than half an hour and I once had to wait an hour and a half. Once while I was waiting (feeling faint from lack of food) the office staff was yucking it up with the medical reps that had brought in food.

Our appointments never lasted longer than 5 minutes although I had a high-risk pregnancy (our son ended up being born 9 weeks early) and Dr. Ross spent very little time explaining the risks to me in-spite of the fact that this was my first pregnancy.

We moved before our son was born so I don't know what it would have been like to deliver with this group.

I would not recommend this office to my friends or to anyone else really.

This practice is top notch- AMAZING!

by Anonymous

Everything about this practice is great. The doctors are all wonderful, and the staff and nurses are friendly and efficient. Maybe I was lucky, but I didn't have to wait any longer here than at other doctor's offices. (20 minutes or so). I see Dr. Matsunaga and he is very attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. He listened to all of my concerns and addressed everything I had questions about. Their office is located at St. John's, and they have their own testing downstairs for your ultrasound, bone density, etc. (very convenient)
Dr. Matsunaga also accepts insurance.

Highly recommend!

Daly & Matsunaga

by Anonymous

I see both Dr Daly and Dr Matsunaga. They are the best, and each has their own style. Dr. Daly is always so positive and warm. She really knows her stuff, and she KNOWS her patients. Dr Matsunaga is equally as knowledgeable, and is very gentle and kind. He's a good listener who will definitely take your feelings into consideration. You never, ever get the sense "he's a guy, he doesn't get it...." They work in tandem, and make an absolutely great team. The office can get busy and there can be a wait, but it's an OBGYN practice - people have babies everyday and it's not always planned. Those are the emergencies that may prevent them from taking you at the exact time that you made your appointment for.

The only drawback is that Dr Daly is no longer covered by Blue Shield, however, Dr Matsunaga is. To the poster who actually blamed the office yet was totally ignorant of her own insurance policy, get it together. There are basic things we must - God forbid - find out on our own, such as "does my insurance cover this doctor?" I mean, honestly...

Dr Daly is caring, professional and wonderful.

by Cynthia O.

Last week I learned that my (former now) OBGYN received abnormal results from last year's PAP smear and never inform me (he has a "no news is good news" policy). I have had prior problems and his failure to inform me upset me terribly. I searched this site and called this office for any doctor that could see me immediately. I was given Dr. Daly. In 5 days and 2 visits, Dr Daly put an end to all my concerns. She is an attentive listener. She explained everything to me and actually CARED about my feelings. I am so grateful to have found her. I also observed her interact with two full term mommies (with seemingly braindead husbands), she went beyond what is required to calm and comfort these ladies. I strongly recommend Dr. Daly. If I had to complain about something the best I can come up with is that I waited 20 minutes to see the doctor both times. I'll take it.

Impersonal service

by Margaret M.

I 100% agree with r.j.'s review below.

I scheduled my first visit at this practice because it was recommended to me by a colleague. When I finally saw dr. Daly, after a long wait, the visit lasted about 15-20 minutes. Dr. Daly failed to inform me about basic steps woman needs to take when trying to get pregnant... prenatal vitamins, folic acid, etc. I have chosen her because I thought I'd feel more comfortable with female physician, but I was proved wrong.

When I went with a different doctor I thought I had my bad experience with them behind me, but I was in for a surprise. When I needed to get copies of my medical records, films, etc. they made it very difficult and only delivering (partially) the paperwork after numerous calls and pleading with them.

Wonderful service

by Anonymous

I was refered to Dr. Ross by a friend, and on my first visit saw Dr. Matsunaga. I found him to be more accessible than Dr. Ross in terms of appointments (for my schedule) and so switched to him. He was amazing and we had a wonderful experience with him (Chair of OBGYN at St. John's). The practice is busy (largely because Dr. Ross and Dr Thordason (sp?) are known as two of the best in Los Angeles according to a birthing nurse at Saint John's), but we were always able to see Dr. Matsunaga early mornings, even on Fridays.

Also, the delivery went wonderfully well. We will never see another doctor in Los Angeles as long as we are here!

I love this practice

by Anonymous

Dr. Cornelia Daly is my OB. She delivered two of my babies. Fabulous service, matter-of-fact, very informative. I also have seen Dr. Matsunaga during one of my visits, because he was the second doctor on my C section delivery.

I am surprised at the negative comments, but it is common that only people with negative things to say air their feelings in these type of feedback forums.

DR ROSS AND DANI ROCK!

by mckenna r.

I can't believe anyone would have anything negative to say about Dr Ross at all! This is simply the finest and most professional ob gyn clinic in town. I can't tell you how many times they have given special care and attention to me. Most certainly they are busy, so they don't have a lot of time to sit around and chat with you. But I like an exam that is quick! :-) I assure you you will be in the finest care if Dr. Ross and Dani are looking after you.

This office is TERRIBLE

by LL B.

First, I visited Dr. Vogel: visits were brief and impersonal. My husband insisted on changing doctors and I agreed. So, I changed to Dr. Daly, and informed her of the problem we had with Dr. Vogel. It was the same thing with Dr. Daly. But that's not the worst . . .

I was told a few months ago that their payment procedures were changing and that I would have to pay my costs up front and the insurance company would reimburse me. Then, they kept asking me for a $4000 "birth deposit" (which they said my insurance would reimburse for in full once the baby was born). This $4000, I was informed, was payable by your 6th month of pregnancy, however, they didn't inform me until my 6th month and told me it was payable immediately.

After several conversations with different people in the office, I was finally told that their contract with my insurance was "in negotiations" and they weren't sure if they would continue with them. But that I should still give them the $4000 deposit, of course.

It was only after receiving a letter from my insurance company informing me that they couldn't fully reimburse me because I had chosen an "out of network doctor" did I find out that they haven't had a contract with my insurance since 2000 - 6 years ago! Even though when I was referred to them, they assured me "not to worry" my insurance was fine.

I was reimbursed less than half of what I had paid, and had I taken a loan out to pay their $4000 "deposit," I wouldn't have been able to pay it back.

I asked them SEVERAL times about billing and insurance, and was told innumberable times not to worry, that my insurance would reimburse me.

They didn't just mislead me and provide chop-shop service, but they blatantly LIED about billing. This has to be some sort of malpractice or something?

PLEASE SPARE YOURSELF, and don't waste your time with these "doctors."

Changed my mind about woman doctors

by r. j.

Too many doctors, too much waiting, you don't know which doctor will deliver you. Lots of rushed, cold visits. I finally changed to Dr. R.Francis who totally blew away all ideas that somehow a woman will be somehow "better". His bedside manner and empathy are just the opposite of the Frumowitz GROUP practice.

PROS: none
CONS: Long wait for rushed visit. Don't know who will deliver you.

Dr. Ross & Danni Rock

by Kelly M.

I was referred to Dr. Ross by the doctor I work with; I am so glad I did! Dr. Ross is very approachable and made me instantly feel at ease. She took care of me with what I would call the best possible care, and her nurse, Danni, is extremely caring as well. When I was having a small proceedure in clinic I was very nervous and Danni talked me through what would happen and gave me a hug before leaving the room; it was unexpected and drained all of my anxiety away -- I knew that I was right where I needed to be and would be well taken care of !

PROS: Caring, professional, affordable and approachable
CONS: Waiting room can be lengthy, I agree that it's worth it!

I love Dr. Ross and this entire practice

by Amy A.

Dr. Ross has been my OB for 4 years and I've had three babies in that time. I've been driving from Glendale to Santa Monica for all three babies because I love her and all of the doctors in her practice. They are very busy so be prepared to wait occasionally, but it's well worth it. Although she is busy, Dr. Ross always takes time to explain and answer questions. She is very laid-back and never an alarmist. I 've also seen all of the other doctors and they are all great. Dr. Thordason delivered my 1st baby because Dr. Ross was out of town. Dr. Matsunaga met me in the ER on a Sat. morning for what turned out to be a non-issue. He was very friendly, knowledgable and pleasant.

PROS: Highest standards of care, very professional, clean attractive office.
CONS: Many times a long wait in waiting room (worth the wait).

I totally disagree with the other review posted here. My wife saw Dr. Matsunaga during her pregnancy. As part of their practice you have one doctor but you also see some of the other doctors at least once to get to know every one. We found each of them very professional and knowledgable. We particularly liked Dr. Ross. When it came time for our child's birth Dr. M was out of town so Dr. Thorenson did the delivery. We had never dealt with her and yet she was extremely friendly and did a great job. These guys have a great practice. They are very busy but they are very good.

Do you like being shouted at? Are old-fashioned, self-righteous male-chauvinist woman doctors your cup of tea? Do you love being ignored?! Well then Dr. Frumovitz is the doctor for you! Seriously, if you need to be told things, rather than have you medical care discussed and explained, Dr. Wm. Frumovitz might be the guy for you--but if you're young or the least bit independent, you'll probably be miserable if you find yourself in his examining room.
