One of my favorite natural foods grocery stores is the chain Wild Oats, and People's is a division of this chain. The store is clean and well organized, and all the staff are helpful and friendly. They have excellent sales and a rewards program for buying special items. Their prices are some of the best for a chain natural foods store, and they have some excellent items you can't find anywhere else! I make a special trip to Evanston from the city to shop here sometimes!

there aren't too many options in evanston for groceries, and if you hate whole foods, people's market is really your only other choice. all in all it's very comparable to whole foods, but feels roomier inside and less commercial.

The produce is good, though not an extremely diverse selection. The meats are all right, but a great selection of breads and cheeses. Some fresh baked goods, but not as impressive as Whole Foods. A wide variety of unique items, from snacks to dry goods, it's easy to find an organic or healthier variety of something here. It's pricey, as expected, but some good deals can be found when things are on sale.

You need a car to get there, in which case you could just go to Trader Joe's to get much of what you want for much less.

PROS: good selection, quality goods across the board
CONS: need a car to get there, pricey

Nice store, with lots of natural product brands. Great assortment of gourmet fresh items (the olives' bar is the best around). Fresh fish, good sushi (as good as it can be from a store...). Good deals very often all around the store (register on their website and watch your mail and email- they send many offers online)

PROS: good, not so expensive natural food store
CONS: organization. of the store

Right down the street from competitor Whole Foods in Evanston, this store is more of a no-frills shopping experience. Dry/grocery/frozen items are comparable, although often at much better prices. Wild Oats makes its own brand-named goods, which are good quality. Sales at this store are worth making the trip, often B1G1 or special coupon deals. The bakery is nothing to write home about, mostly packaged goods. The fresh offerings come mainly from outside sources, like the Chicago Diner, and therefore can be dry and old. Not much in the way of prepared foods, the salad barfood bar looks tired and unappealing. Produce, cheese, and other items, however, are fresh and a large bulk food section offers a good value.
