I'm a cashier at one of the Value Worlds. We are as a matter of fact allowed to tell customers where to get coupons and often times post signs with all the places they came out. The only thing is we don't usually know that coupons are coming out until a customer tells us they found one. We will have a coupon starting Feb. 14, 2011. Its already been spotted in the JB Dollar Stretcher magazine that comes in the mail. I'm told it will also appear in the Red Plum mailers also found in your mail, as well as the Metro Times (a free paper found at places like Big Lots and Party stores), rumor has it that it will also appear on the website at Valueworld.net. last I checked it wasn't there yet but I wouldn't expect it until the day before it starts or maybe the day of. There were a couple other news papers that it was supposed to come in but I'm not certain which ones although the Oakland Press, Detroit Free Press, and News Herald have carried it in the past.

We are a for profit business. Everything in the store was purchased from Purple Heart. We don't take donations because we are not a charity. We buy things by the truck load from Purple Heart sight unseen. We never know what we are getting.

Someone wanted to know why things over 10 dollars are rung up as 2 seperate items, its pretty simple. Our cash registers give us an error message if we type in an amount over 10 dollars. I don't know if it has to do with the age of the machine or what but its not really a bad thing. It doesn't change the amount you owe at all.

Value World AKA Value Village is a SCAM. In Indiana Value World acts on behalf of Amvets. Value World Owns and operates the people who call and the trucks that pick up on behalf of Amvets. Do not get me wrong, Amvets is a great organization but not Value World. When you get the call saying that Amevts will be in your neighborhood to pick up clothing and household items, Amvets gets 50 cents for that pick up. And out of the mere 50 cents, Value world takes out the cost of the gas, employees and the leased vehicles. That means Amvets receives almost 10 cents a pick up. If you donate directly to the Value World Store, Amvets gets nothing. So next time you buy that designer dress and suit, think of the owner of Value World who a few years ago, his yacht was featured on the cover of a boating magazine. The employees of Value World get minimum wage. I do NOT donate to Value World but donate to Amvets directly. I also do not shop at Value World as it is a scam.

For those of you complaining about coupons on the internet, as far as I know they stopped it, because customers took advantage of it because they were photo copying them. Second of all, WHEN coupons start all you have to do is ask an employee and they will tell you where to find them. AS for the Dearborn store and their UNION crap, they signed for the union and didn't get anything, also the Dearborn store is closing, not to be confused with RELOCATING. Value World isn't non-profit and ISN'T SALVATION ARMY. The employees at Eastpointe always help customers and watch their mouths on the floor and they are always working.

I shop at the Ann Arbor Value World and LOVE IT!! The answer to al ot of questions about the coupons....they will occasionally put them on their website (at the end of each season) and I have gotten a few in the junk mail circulars. Yes, you do have to look around, but it is well worth it. As for the language...I haven't heard any of the employees there use the foul language and if I did, I don't care if anyone thinks its the "NORM", it's NOT. You simply let them know that you don't appreciate it. I have always heard the cashiers there let a customer know where to find coupons. Ok, so that's my 2 cents worth. :-)

Value World is a great store. I shop resale and now I never buy anything at retail--even sales. I have bought so many wonderful outfits from perfect leather pants, silk shirts, wool blazers--it's true you have to watch what you buy, but I've bought retail, got it home and had to bring it back because of a seam that had come apart. Even though I sew, thank God, I still cannot--or shouldn't have to repair a brand new retail-sold item. Due to illness and job downsizing, I would not be able to afford to shop without this company. Because of them, I had a wonderful leather coat to wear for winter, boots as well. They looked brand new. The styles may be a bit outdated but then, if I fell in love with any item in my wardrobe, I would hang on to it, who cares about dates? I'm not financially able to dress the way some do, I can't throw money away just because a designer designates their next year's wims. I am very pleased with the items sold at the Westland store. The sales staff works very hard (I see them) and they've always been cordial to me. Be a little open-minded and thankful for the little things in life. There is good in everything--just look!

Sorry Rita, but Value World is not a consignment shop, They do not take items on consignment, they are a thrift store, but unlike some other thrift stores Value World does not take donations they are not a non profit, they purchase their merchandise from Purple Heart. When people donate their items to Purple Heart, it will most likely be found for sale at Value World.

The only problem I see is that the people who work at value world save things for customers. If you collect something, and have an in with a worker, they will save it in a box for you. When you come in, at a prearranged time, they get out the box or cart and the person has access to things the everyday customer will never see. This is wrong and takes all the fun out of resale. I make sure to tell all of my friends this. I have seen this at least a half a dozen times. I speak the truth.

The workers at Value World in Dearborn Heights voted for union representation with UFCW Local 876. They voted for better wages, and respect in the workplace. These are things provided in a union contract.

For the most part value world has great prices. Things of more value or better value are priced a little higher to reflect that. Being used is also taken into consideration. Sometimes expensive things do slip by and that means an even better deal for customers!! There once was a $1400 top there with department store tag still on...it was coming apart at the seems and had a price tag of 30 bucks. that would be worth it to fix at that deal!

Even though employees are not told when coupons come out, they can be found every few months in the detroit news/free press and observer and also some coupon circulars....they used to be online but they have not shown up in awile, probably because so many were being brought in!! When they are found they are a really good deal.

Also, this store is fairly clean and has a HUGE selection compared to most other thrift stores. If you take the time to look you can find alot of deals and many NEW clothes with tags still on them.

Many of the clothing items hanging on the racks at the front of the store are way over-priced for used clothing. Really, $12.00 for a pre-owned pair of Old Navy jeans is ridiculous! BUT you CAN FIND excellent bargains on high end designer clothing items. Apparently the employee's are ignorant when it comes to pricing these things. Which is a good thing for me, hehehe. A $1200 Claude Montana suit for $7.99 is an absolute BARGAIN! Oh yeah! I'm heading out there this afternoon! And unlike the Salvation Army stores, Value World is open on Sunday's! Yippie! BTW, I checked their website valueworld.net and there were NO COUPONS ANYWHERE. Bummer!

This is a resale shop with prices that are so high, I shop somewhere else now, like AJ Wright or JC Penney's. T-shirts cost $4 why? It is an outrage. Everyone should shop around for better bargains. The store in westland have the rudeness and most unfriendly staff.

Where in the Eastpointe/Roseville area would I find a coupon? I've been checking the Eastsider paper as well as mailers with no luck. :( The last time I was there a nice gal gave me one saying she had an extra. I was too surprised to remember to ask her where she found them.

I always check for flaws with zippers and buttons. Check for uneven heels on shoes, armpit stains, mismatches in sizes for two- or three-piece ensembles. Most of all check the crotch! Trust me on this one....

I frequently go the this store and always find great buys. They often have designer items and I can tend to be a "tag Hag". I purchase my children clothing and my daughter loves being able to find designer items and trendy items. You can really save and it just makes sense as our children grow so fast.
I recommend just taking a day and seeing what they have. I promise it is addictive as you will continue to search for that "best priced" item

Once a month I drive all the way from Whitmore Lake, Mi. Absolutely love this place! It is so organized, I always have loads of fun and I save money without a coupon cause I'm not from around there anymore to get one:( You people out there are so spoiled, you don't even know how good you have it. The resale shops out here would horrified you, they're old, very pricey, and very unorganized. It takes lot of work to keep a store that size clean and straight, especially when you let your kids go wild in their toy department and through out the rest of the store annoying serious shoppers. I got a $130.00 pair of BEBE Jeans for like 8 bucks. I went there on Saturday and I'm going back on Tuesday for a shirt I cant stop thinking about. I myself never spend less than 2 hours in the store saving loads of cash. So shut up go shopping and have some fun!!!

i like value world. i read the review on the westland location from the lady that was appalled by their security personnel. I work in retail at a high end store, the theft is phenomenal, we had a mother and daughter steel over 2000.00 of merchandise one morning, we caught them, but we also have cameras. I'm an honest person too. So if I'm stopped by security, I'm more than happy to assist them and thank them for doing their job. Their only human and with no cameras, their doing their best. Be glad they are there. As for the foul language of the employees, That life, it's now the norm of the English language, I don't like it but I just ignore it now. I use to be upauled, but its the way it is now. The f- word is just a slang now, and not used in the way it was years ago. As for the what Value World does with their profits, I don't care. They have good deals and EMPLOY PEOPLE. Even if at min. wage.

I went to Value World, Westland on my day off during national voting day. I always go to the Ecorse store, but decided to stop by this location, as I wanted to go to the Sprint store out there, anyway, I went in an noticed a sign that mentioned about shoplifters. I didn't pay it much attention as I wasn't a shoplifter and proceeded to browse the store. My phone went off while I was in the store I usually keep it in my purse like other women do. Anyway, I looked to see who called and put it back and proceeded to browse. I tried on a few coats and went to housewares, since I ALWAYS purchase my houseware items from Value World. I rarely buy clothing, but it was my day off and I was just looking. Anway, I put a pot in my basket and proceeded to the check out, once I completed my purchase and headed to the door. I was stopped by this woman, who held her hand up. I was startled - then another woman came up and informed me that because I had a large purse, which I've always carried a large purse. It's isn't a carry on or anything. She said they store detective said I put something into my purse and that they HAD to search my bag. I was humiliated. HOW COULD THEY! There wasn't but 10 people (shoppers) in the WHOLE STORE!!! Anyway, I WILL NEVER SHOP VALUE WORLD AGAIN!!! You would think - that they would have to have proof via camera or something. They ONLY HAVE TO SUSPECT you of stealing before they stop you. Think before going to this location!! PLZ - DON'T LET YOU SELF BE HUMILIATED LIKE I WAS AT THIS STORE!

I went into Value World last week and was asked if I had the 50% off coupon, I didn't know anything about coupons, I also have several other friends that shop at Value World and they did not know about the coupon either. Since I was spending $100.00 I was very disappointed to know I could have gotten 50% off. Maybe Value World should consider having specials on certain days like Salvation Army does. Then all their customers would be treated the same even if they do not have a coupon! My friends said they would have walked out and not made the purchase at all if it had been them!!

Purple heart owns value world!! I know as a fact i use to work for both. Basically they take your free donations and sell them at a ridiculous price. Then purple heart tells the people who are donating items that they have a contract with value world and they pay by the weight of items which is not true!!! So basically they are all profit and they don't even pay employees that well. The place is a scam and they aren't helping anyone but themselves.

What can i say most used stores have a smell to them and so does this one and the one in taylor does too. I found some really good shape stuff and some really worn out stuff. I have never seen anything like vcrs, tv. furniture at all. They have more clothes than anything. The prices are cheap and on the kids end they are cheaper than used kids stores.

I love this place. I can go here and get name brand clothes for 1/4 of the cost at the store. All you have to do is check for holes, stains, and messed up zippers. I go her often for play clothes for my son and myself. I get alot of my husbands work clothes here. We went this summer and got summer clothes and I ended up with 75.00 worth of clothes and I used a coupon that was in the phone book and got all clothes 1/2 off. So I really save a bunch. They also have other things not just clothes. Pictures, shoes, toys, books electronics. This is a used clothing store but some of the items still have the tags on them.

Well, this Value World isn't near me, the Lincoln Park one is, but that's not on here, so I figured I'd rate this... but anyways, Value World never did any harm. I like the thrift shops because you can find some really cool shirts that you'd never find anywhere else or maybe even expect to exist and they're only about 2 or 3 bucks. Can't beat it.

Value World is one of the consignment stores in the westland area. Like any other consignment stores go you are never sure about the kind of stuff you'll find there. Though they always have clothes and shoes and jackets other stuff like a used TV or tennis rackets are not frequent. Also, there is this musty smell when you enter the store but the store is large and spacious and things are not cluttered around. Prices are dirt cheap.
