If you're looking to spend a forture (or have a fortune to spend), then you'll want to go to Whole Foods Market. Personally, I don't enjoy being surrounded by the people who shop there or knowing that I am being overcharged. But they do have probably the biggest selection of organic foods and produce that I've seen. I used to go to Wholesome Market (formerly Healthy Pleasures) but that closed. Now I eat non-organic produce because I don't want to go to Whole Foods. I don't like the corporate atmosphere.

Nothing is more appetizing then visiting a store where everything is clean, laid out and there is tons of variety. I agree with a previous poster that the Columbus Circle location is the best; however, I love how close this one is to me and on many occassions have stopped in for lunch or picked up some items that were nearby to take on a picnic. I love the salad bar and the mozzerella balls mmm.

PROS: Many foods that are perfect to have for lunch on the run
CONS: Sometimes the lines are a bit much but it's worth it

This particular branch of Whole Foods is spectacular. No matter how packed it is, the lines move briskly and you can almost always find a seat in the upstairs dining area within a couple minutes, which is pretty good for a hot spot on Union Square. While the salad bar and hot bar food is not cheap, the quality is great and it certainly beats going to a more expensive restaurant for dinner. I love this Whole Foods!

PROS: Great location, lines move fast, great food
CONS: We need more, especially downtown!!!

Here's just five things that I loooooooove about Whole Foods:

1. The smell when you first walk in. Organicismic. Ha.
2. The marinated chicken salad and the tempeh and the grilled vegetables and the sweet potato casserole and EVERYTHING in their salad bar, which, at $6.99/lb, isn't a bargain but isn't a rip-off either.
3. The icing-stuffed oatmeal sandwhich cookies. Screw Atkins, Weight Watchers, my cholesteral, swimsuit season, whatever. These are heaven-sent.
4. The very friendly cashiers who somehow, despite the masses of customers, you manage to get to without waiting very long and who deal with you in a way that makes you and them forget that they've been working in an insanely-paced supermarket for four hours.
5. Bottled water:$0.49. Poland Spring seltzer: $0.69. I was gushing about this for days.
