I have been going to Elan for a decade - all of their hair cutters are great. I especially recommend Zina and Andrew. The massage people can be hit or miss, but Gulya is very good. The front desk people are very courteous and professional.

the worst ever
by Lea T.
I should have known by the hair of the stylist who greeted me when I arrived (and had been scheduled to cut my hair) that gettting a hair cut at this place was a mistake. She had streaky, yellow highlights in dark hair in a dirty, frizzy pony tail. And what I walked out with was not much better. Horrible, streaky highlights and the ugliest hair cut I have ever received. she promised to fix it if I came back later in the week and that;s when she ruined the last of what was once my nice, long hair, and then wanted to charge me for that. Don't ever go here. My friend also got a facial that made her face look like it had been run over by a truck.

I have gotten many great services from Elan Salon and Day Spa. They offer the cheapest waxing around, and do a great job. I have the most sensitive skin, and none of their products caused me any irritation. The also have a little private pedicure room with two seats. Great place to bring your mom.
PROS: Good prices, clean
CONS:

best salon!!
by xevilx
I went in for a deep tissue massage and it was absolutely fabulous. I came in with a lot of pain and it went away the next day thanks to Leo! I also had a facial by Marina and it was amazing. My skin felt like new and I was recommended products to keep my skin healthy that they sell right in the salon. I was astonished at how good they make my skin feel. With todays economy, the prices are very reasonable and I will definitely be returning.
Pros: great massages, facials and prices
Cons: none

best hair stylist, great facials
by nycaddict
The first time I went here, i got my hair done. I am very particular about my hair and have been to multiple salons before, Elan Salon was the bestt! I got a haircut and highlights. She knew exactly what to do in order for it to suit me. The cut was perfect! The color was perfect! I've been getting so many compliments ever since. While I was waiting for the color to penetrate, the staff offered me coffee/tea, cookies, everybody was just so polite. The next time I came here for a facial. It was the most relaxed I had been in weeks. It was such a calm and relaxing atmosphere, and Marina did such a good job. She was very professional and left my skin flawless after a few visits. She recommended I use the Guinot product line, and picked out exactly what I needed. I'm usually allergic but this didn't give me any bad reactions and was natural. They even sell this line right in the salon, which was very convenient. Overall, this salon is highly professional and offers a lot of great services. This is the best salon in Park Slope. I will definitely be returning to continue my services and experiment with new ones! =)
Pros: professional staff, great services
Cons: none

Best Salon in Brooklyn, Highly Recommend !
by vsgal
I was recommended to go to Elan Salon, over a year ago. I enjoy going there, they are very pleasant, they greet you, the receptionist offers you coffee or tea. The salon is in a very nice area, and is beautiful inside. I went to get a bikini wax from Galina, she did a wonderful job, painless aswell. I go to Tanya for manicure and pedicure, she is amazing. The whole atmosphere in the salon is very nice, everyone there is very greeting. There's no wait at all. Very pleased with the salon, go get your hair, nails, facials done there.
Pros: very greeting, no wait, wonderful workers

Best Day Spa, relaxing and affordable
by vickks
The first time I went there was about a year ago... I fell in love!! I've been to many salons before and this is absolutely the best! I go to Galina for any wax. She's quick, professional, painfree and just amazing! They have private rooms and they're always so clean and calming. I get mani/ pedi's there also and I think I just about tried everybody. They all did a great job. I also get my hair cut and highlights there and I'm always very satified. They always know what to recommend. I go to both Andis and Nelly. Massages are to die for!! The swedish massage was very relaxing. It made me never want to leave. They also have a lot of other massages. The massage room has a fireplace, calming music, and it always smells so good! They have the most professional and friendly staff, great management, and a relaxing atmosphere. The best part of it all is that they're so inexpensive. I've bought many gift certificates there before for my friends. They have a great selection and you can customize your own gift certificate and the packaging is so nice.
Pros: inexpensive, professional service
Cons: none

Best Brazilian
by bunnyllove
I just moved to Brooklyn a few months ago and haven't been waxed since. I was in desperate need. I saw Natasha who gave me one of the best overall waxes I have ever had. SInce I hadn't been waxed in awhile I was expecting it to hurt like hell but it barley hurt at all. She was very gentle and thorough and talked to me the whole time to get my mind off the pain. I would strongly recommend her.
Pros: Inexpensive and great work
Cons: none

I agree with julia0215

I went for a massage and was told I should get a "deep tissue" massage. Not being a fool and pretty wise to how spas work, I said "no thank you, the swedish is fine." I've had many before at many other places but this was way too light and I felt just as tense leaving as I did walking in, only $70 poorer. With so much competition in the neighborhood, I'd think they'd try a little harder to keep repeat customers.

Amazing bikini wax!
by soft_kitten
The first time I went here, the bikini wax was so fast, I didn't have time to say "ow!". The second time I literally felt nothing. I highly recommend going regularly, because the next time I waited too long and it hurt, but was still fast and efficient.
I found the staff very welcoming and I've never waited more than a few minutes from when I stepped in the door. The atmosphere isn't very "spalike" so I probably wouldn't go here for massage and I only trust one woman to cut my hair, but as far as a regular bikini wax goes it's great. (They also used to be dirt-cheap at $15, but now they're $20. Still a good deal.)
Pros: Friendly staff, experienced and fast waxers
Cons: Setting, decoration, a little messy (but not dirty)

do not go here. no matter what.
by hana124
i just created this citysearch profile for the sole purpose of warning everyone. avoid this place. the staff is unfriendly to the point of hostility. the woman who was waxing me was gruff, unfriendly and didn't seem to care how good a job she was doing. she actually cut me with the scissors (i was bleeding!) and she didn't apologize, give me kleenex, make sure i was okay, or anything. i expressed my unhappiness and she actually said "SO?" i can't believe i paid for this. please please avoid this dump of a salon at all costs.
Cons: everything

No Good Haircut
by najarmas
For any girl with short hair, you know, cut is everything, you can see every layer. I went in on a recomendation, after growing my hair just long enough to have exactly the cut I want. The stylist cut at least 2 inches more than I specificaly, several times specified I wanted. In fact, I provided SIX photos of the same woman! in differnent positions of the haircut I wanted. I seriously look like a 15th century monk slash page boy. The volume in the back was at center of my head, it looked like an experiment!!! I have had some bad ones, but this one! Lopsided, I have spent hours fixing it, luckily I have had short hair for years and am very experienced cutting my own hair. NO concept of proportion, no consideration of patrons specific considerations. It took almost 2 hours too! He burned me with the hair dryer repetedly, cut hair all over my face, I couldn't breath, and he smelled.

cigarette smell
by birdie32
Got a gift certificate and spent it on a massage and reflexology. The room was a tiny room in the back and didn't feel very special or exclusive. The massage was relaxing, although I've had better. The reflexology was like an average foot massage with a hot towel. This was my first time getting reflexology but I heard it was supposed to be quite unique and enjoyable. The guy massaging me kept leaving the room to take cigarette breaks then would return stinking like cigarettes. The guy was very nice but I didn't enjoy how he took breaks during the time that I was paying for.
Pros: Nice staff, convenient
Cons: small, man smoking

Not worth the money
by julia0215
Went in for a Swedish massage for $60. It ended up being a glorified back rub. I was told you apparently you have to pay an extra $20 for the Deep Tissue massage to actually get any muscles massaged. I have had hundred of Swedish massages and this by far was the worst! Even though it was on the cheap side it isn't worth the money.
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Skill and technique of massage was poor

Unimpressed
by cconning
I received a gift certificate for Christmas and excitedly went for a facial and was quite disappointed. There was no massage of the neck, arms or feet while waiting for my mask to dry - instead I was left in a dark room with no music. I guess you get what you pay for - it is the cheapest facial in the slope.

An Excellen Salon!
by martatsoneva
I've been going to Elan Salon & Day Spa for almost a year now, and I'm VERY happy with every aspect of their work - the attitude is so nice, the staff members greet you by name and offer complimentary tea/coffee, but most importantly - the quality of the services is superb! I regularly get manicure/pedicure, occassionally a facial treatment, and am very satisfied! There is no pressure to buy products, and the prices are good. The place is very clean and neat, and open until 7 PM at night. I've sent a few friends there, and they were all very happy, as well. Strongly recommended!
Pros: excellent service, staff is very nice
