Cool

by Joe L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,569

Now this is a cool museum! It's really cheap compared to the rest of Indy 500 events and attactions. $3.00. And it's so cool to be able to see those cars up close and to be able to see how they have changed over the years. You don't have to be a total gearhead to enjoy this place, but don't take a girly girl who hates cars and racing. Trust me on that one!

great idea for company outing

by Debby K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,167

If you are a local business here in Indy...and take your employees out for a company out of some sort every year then give this a shot, you can get a group deal put together and take everyone around the track on the bus, kiss the bricks and get some great company photos, the tour of the media center is interesting and the gift shop and musuem has something for everyone to see.

A must for race fans

by Eli D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,073

The big oval is FULL of nostalgia. Inside the museum, you can see how the cars have changed from the FIRST race, to the most recent. There are many, many actual race cars on exhibit. There is also a film or two showing in the "movie" room. I believe there are a few that alternate, but mostly they show you the history of racing, and how it was cancelled for a few years, for the war.

You can also see many of the trophies that have been won during the years.

In the upstairs of the museum building, you can find prints from just about every race. Find a photo of your favorite race car driver and have it signed or framed. GREAT memorabilia for any race fan! The giftshop has many different things to choose from as well.

The crossroads of America are circular!

by Kellie K. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,803

IMS offers great entertainment for the whole family. Despite the recent F1 debacle, IMS is still considered the Mecca of race tracks. Kissing the bricks is a time-honored tradition heralded by race drivers around the world.

Great Little Place

by Andrea G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,342

This is an exceptional place to go and visit.

The Prices are great fairly cheap.

They have great old cars to look at dating way back and you can even sit in one of the racing cars and have your picture taken (they will take it with your camera or theirs.)

They also have a little theatre that gives you history of the raceway, the cars and some of the racers.

You can purchase a ticket and take a ride on the speedway where they will give you the history of the speedway.

The workers were exceptionally nice and its just a fun place to go and visit!!

Definitely a tourist must-see in Indianapolis.

by Alicia A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,506

For a tiny price ($3 adult admission, $1 for kids 6-15, free under 6) you get a lot of auto racing history out of this museum. Over 75 cars are featured at any given time, along with equipment and racing trophies. Another neat thing is that this museum is located right squarely in the middle of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and there are track tours available for a nominal charge. The museum is open 364 days a year, closed Christmas day.
