Expensive, but close to school.

by Gunnar A. | insider Insider | Rank: 29,166

University Village is great location-wise if you're going to the University. Unfortunately, while there is just about everything, it's very expensive. Parking is awful, even during the week and during afternoon's. Personally, I would find it a more attractive place to shop if there was a discount grocery store there - maybe a large Fred Meyer's or a Food 4 Less (there are none of the latter in Seattle I beleive. Too bad, as QFC charges top dollar for EVERYTHING.) The place does a land office though as University Village is the only thing near UW that qualifies as a Mall with any kind of selection - just don't expect plenty of parking or 'poor college student' pricing.

Best Mall if shopping with kids...

by Amanda L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,270

University Village is an outdoors mall located in the U-district. Its the best mall I think if you are shopping with kids because they have an outdoor playground for little kids right at the center of the mall. They have many stores like Baby Gap, Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids. They have plenty of benches if you need to stop and rest with the kids.

A hidden jewel!

by madge y. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,150

I absolutely love coming to U Village. Not just for the shopping, but because they have EVERYTHING! Come here to get your groceries at QFC, and a very nice grocery store at that. The ambience is very nice. Or go shopping with some retail chains; Banana Republic, Gap, Victoria's Secret, etc, or go shopping for exclusive, expensive, high end items; Coach, Mercer, Anthropologie. When you're hungry, all in a stone's throw are restaurants all over you for quick eats. Visit the fantastic French bakery, and sit outside consuming your baked goods, while tiny birds flit around all over you. It's very peaceful. Not only that, it's very BABY FRIENDLY. The playground in the middle of the courtyard is a boon for mothers. Come sit here, and watch your children play, and then when they fall asleep, go shopping! Visit the Confectionary candy shop, similar to an old time candy shop. Or spend some time at Barnes and Nobles. You could come here with friends, and everyone will find something to do.

PROS: One of the best shopping centers all around!
CONS: Sometimes takes awhile to find a good parking spot!

Even My Husband Will Shop Here

by P. M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,997

This shopping plaza keeps getting better and better. The quality of stores is exceptional, and the newly added parking garage has improved access. The grounds are clean, and well kept, with outdoor seating and great aesthetics. It even has two Starbucks, so you don't have to walk to the other side of the mall for your latte! There is also a kids play area to keep the little ones entertained.

Great place to shop and a model for new malls.

by Michelle Q. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 500

University Village is a great place to spend a long lunch. They have done lots of renovations in the past 15 years or so. It went from an okay shopping center with a grocery store and a card store to an upscale shopping - well, village. Lots of nice stores and restaurants. Stores include Fran's Chocolates, Kids Club, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn Kids... there is a big Barnes and Noble and a Kiehl's body products store along with much, much more. They built a new parking garage a year or so ago which makes parking a lot easier - go to the garage rather than trolling the parking lot for a space.

Very good place for shopping

by Paul X. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,816

This place is an upscale chain mall popular with young parents, neighbors and college students. Stores include Ann taylor, Gap, Jcrew, etc. They also have a very good play ground for kids. Stores there are spacious and sales are very nice. The bookstore inside the mall is a good place to rest. There are lots of benches and decorative flowers on the raod, which makes this place very comfortable.

I love this outdoor mall!

by Stephanie S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,378

University Village is a fabulous outdoor mall. They have unique shops that you don't see in the larger shopping malls. A few stores that they have are Anthropology, Restoration Hardware, Gap, Ravenna Gardens, Lucy, Barnes and Noble, and Pottery Barn just to name a few. They also have a variety of restaurants. It's a great place to walk around on a calm and warm day!

University Village

by Hannah B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,041

The U-Village shopping area is my favorite in the city. It is a large, open-air mall-type, with tons of upscale shops and great restaurants. New shops seem to arrive monthly and theres no shortage of places to go or eat. The mall is nicely landscaped with a large courtyard in the middle, which makes for a nice place to eat or simply sit and people watch. A lot of places offer student discounts, so make sure to ask.
