Don't believe the reviews below. The museum's exhibitions change like every three months. Though admittedly the broadway exhibition and toys could be freshened up, Robert Moses and the Glory Days of New York Baseball were downright awesome - though my personal favorite was New York Rises about Eugene de Salignac, a photographer who was unknown until 10 years ago but took like 20,000 pictures of new york in the early 1900s. Plus, this place is so personable compared to the big museums - a hidden gem for sure. The building is amazing.

New York is such an interesting City, why is its Museum so lame? The permanent exhibitions look like they have not been touched (or dusted) since the 60s and the changing exhibitions were simply dull and boring. There's not really anything else to say.

This museum is not exactly easy to get to from any of the other tourist attractions in Manhattan. It is located uptown at 103 St. However, it is worth a visit for anyone who is truly interested in New York City history. The museum is in a fairly big building, nothing compared to any of the other major museums (like the American Museum of Natural History, for example). I have only been there once and at that time they had a nice exhibit about lights and how it made New York the "city that never sleeps". They also had an interesting about New Orleans and how Hurricance Katrina affected it.

New York has an incredibly rich and interesting history. Unfortunately, the Museum dedicated to it only shows bits and pieces of it. They have very few permanent exhibits, opting only for temporary exhibits on certain people or era. Sometimes they're interesting, other times they're not. The New York Historical Society is a much better place to get some true New York artifacts and to see the entire history, not just parts of it.
