One of many refreshing things about Hooper Camera is that while it's
always on top with high-profile brands and products in the dynamic world of photography, that's not all it stocks. It's the place to go for hard-to-find items like batteries, chargers, controls, different sized cards, and nearly every other accessory imaginable that other camera stores have dropped from their inventories. Independently owned by the same family for 65 years, it's also one of the best that still processes film. With localtions throughout the Valley and long-time, knowledgeable employees, Hooper's has earned customer confidence for going on three generations.

Just awful customer service. I bought my mom a lens for her birthday, she didnt like it. We went to return it, Fred inspected the box and said the hood was missing. The hood was never in the box. We never checked the box before we left when we bought it. but he claims they are always in there. This was 9 days after the initial purchase. He replied "we should have received a call" and he implied that we would be charged for the hood to return the lens. So now we have to pay because we are on the wrong side of the counter? Then I started talking to him and he was so blatantly rude. I'm a younger adult (21) and he was asking me about my age, as if i was to young to reason with him. He has no customer service skills or damage control. I run a higher volume customer retail shop and now i can't talk to him? If you want to pay more and get charged 15% restocking fee and feel like a chump and have your integrity and age questioned this is the store for you. I now understand why they have closed stores. In my company customer satisfaction is number one and maybe they should adopted a similar rule.

Chatsworth store. Was quoted one price BY THE MANAGER to get some enlargements done and was charged a significant amount more than the quote. At the very least, I would expect the manager to have their prices straight. Like the other reviewer wrote, I would not have gotten as many enlargements had I known what they were really going to charge. I also feel that they should call with the "re-adjusted" estimate before processing the prints. In the end, I think it was merely a scheme to make more money. I've been a regular customer and have spent plenty of money on lenses at this location. I refuse to take my business back to Hooper camera. Very disappointing...

I called to get the price for printing some black and white negatives from early 1900s and was told $3.99 to set up the scanner, $1.00 for each picture scanned, and .29cents a print. When I brought them in the next day that same price was confirmed. When I picked the pictures up I was told it was $96. I would not have had them done for that but they refused to adjust the charge even tho I was given the wrong info by their employee. I will not go there again for anything.

(April 2009) I have been doing business with Hooper Camera (mostly the Newbury Park store) for over 20 years. I have had film developed and digital pictures printed; to my recollection, I've bought 7 cameras from Hooper; the latest camera being a D700. I go to Hooper for three reasons; great prices, good inventory and knowledgeable staff. In regards to pricing, Hooper's prices for digital equipment generally beat local photography stores (Samy's, Ritz, Wolf, George's, Bel Air); even for internet pricing (B+H, Adorama, Amazon, etc.). I am not aware of the digital enlargement procedures, but I find it really hard to believe that the problems noted in another review is as one-sided as implied. D. BennerLa Quinta, Ca.

Never get anything digitally transferred at Hooper Camera (Chatsworth). That includes slides, 4 x 5's, negatives, and video transfers. They will tell you they're scanning it at high resolution, and they'll bill you accordingly, and when you get it back, the resolution is so low you can't use it for anything. And they'll also tell you they can transfer video to DVD, but what they don't tell you is, they don't do it themselves--they take it to a business in Woodland Hills. They'll keep your copy for months, then won't take the trouble to send it over to the business. Then they'll call you and tell you it's ready--and when you get there, it's still sitting there on the shelf untransferred. But the worst thing is when they try to scan negatives and transparencies! You're better off doing it at home with the worst grade home scanner, because that's all you'll get. I spent nearly $1000 for hundreds of images that can't be used for anything. They'll tell you exactly what you want to hear in terms of high resolution, then will do it on their sloppy, cheap home scanner and act pompous and knowledgeable.

I been doing business on and off with Hooper Camera since 1986. They have been consistently reliable and competitive. There line of Nikon products has especially been low priced and they have it usually before anyone else including the big boys! The sales force there is knowledgeable and very helpful when I go in, even if I dont buy a thing!

Some very good people, trapped in a dead end hellhole, working for the cheapest miser to walk the planet... next time you you are there, ask any employee if they have health insurance... no health insurance for other than managers...
