I've spent too many of my after school hours here. I guess there are reasons for that. Mainly that it's the closest resemblance to the Mos Eisley Cantina on Earth (other than the music). Seriously, where the cantina band at?

It was April 20th the first day my friends and I came to Victor's. Up until that day, Victor's had been the place where my family and I would drop in after mass or after a family outing and indulge in a Roma or Ticino sandwich. \r

Having traveled 2700 miles to savor the atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest, I find Victors Celtic Coffee on the first morning. The state of Washington should pay these people to greet visitors. The atmosphere was open and refreshing, the coffee was fresh and invigorating, the people were bright, warm, witty, edgy, and real, which is really saying something since the sun was barely up. I came back with family two hours later for breakfast and visited each day before they got up. I made "friends", learned about Redmond, Microsoft, Robots and Chuck Norris. Whether you're defined by spandex, leather fringe or denim, this is a fantastic place to relax. If you're into Gucci or neckties, go somewhere else. Thanks Victors, for some great little memories.

I've heard that the owner of Victor's (Walter) is a kinda mean, but I always thought it was just "their schtick". However, this morning I found out that it's not only "not their schtick" but it's likely to be their eventual downfall.

I cannot see (in this economy or any other) how a grumpy, old menace to society like this can stay in business (let alone succeed and expand several times). He's mean, he's a total tightwad (disables the electrical outlets so that you can't plug your laptop in). He came over when I was trying to find one that worked and told me that he doesn't allow people to plug in and work (he doesn't supply wireless which is fine, but I have a Clearwire modem, so I don't require that).

Good coffee, check! Great breakfast sandwiches, check! Very nice staff, Double-Check. A total ogre for an owner, CHECKMATE!

I'll never go back there until he either sells it or kicks the bucket!.

It's time for Redmond to stand against being treated like dirt. Victor's staff knows how to do it, maybe they could teach their owner a few things!

Pros: Great coffee

I think the breakfast sandwich is the best deal in town. It is tasty and filling. I love the coffee and the pastries (danish and almond twist)

Victor's actual coffee is pretty good, but not really worth it. I don't go there anymore because of the way the owner treats the employees and customers. You should see the looks on these kids faces when he's there. They are all scrambling to do their best while he yells and grabs things out of their hands. Isn't that abusive? Aren't there laws about that? I wish I could scoop them all up and open a new shop! My friends and I don't go back there anymore, he's kicked some of us out on several occasions. Bad ownership, but great employees!

I was just at Victors with a friend. We ordered our coffee, and I walked to the restroom just in time to hear the owner go to my female friend and a little abrasively tell her that he has a time limit and she needed to leave. I went on my way knowing that my friend would clear up his mistake since we had just ordered. When I came back from the restroom about a minute to two minutes later. I saw my friend walk up and tell him "We had just ordered, but that was extremely uncalled for so we wont be comming back". She walked out and he followed her out screaming at her! He caught up and blocked her car door while he continued to scream at this 110 lbs female. She couldnt open the door and get in the car until I got there and drew his attention away. Intimidating a petite young woman who he thought was alone is unacceptable. What a bully! I will never go back.

I used to go here up to three mornings a week before work, grab a beautiful coffee read a chapter. It was my way of dedicating a bit of time to reading something for me before heading of to work. One morning I needed to do some prep for work, popped out my laptop and did some work while having my coffee. Same treatment as others have described, Walter came and told me I was out of time - laptops were limited to one hour. A group that meets there often had sat there for longer chatting and were not told to move along, just me. And there were empty tables!. Now I go to Kirkland Kahili Coffee. They welcome you and your laptops and your friends (plugins and wireless!) and there coffee is even better. Victor's? Why bother! I have gone back when Walter is not there, and found it very pleasant.

Cons: Walter - does he know how offensive he is?

I was a loyal Victor's customer until last weekend. I strolled in on a Saturday afternoon to get some coffee - the usual routine. The shop was less than half full. There was no line at the counter. I ordered a tall Americano. So, I am patiently holding my 16 month old son (I can't set him down, or else he would bother other customers), and it is taking like 10 minutes to make the Americano (not sure why - it's like a 20 second drink to prepare, but that's another story). Since my arms were getting tired, I leaned on a nearby table. The owner barked at me, telling me that the table was for people to sit and eat, and that "I was going to break it". Come on, man. That's weak. It's back to Peet's for me.

I was a loyal Victors patron. Well, that is until ownership changed and Walter took over. Usually the word "Hurry" doesn't apply to my visions of cute neighborhood coffee shops. These days; however, Walter watches over the tables like a hawk to ensure that his dollar/minute ratio stays in his favor. Recently, I was waiting for my honey to arrive, with cash (they still don't accept credit cards, to me just another example of prioritizing his "miserly-ness" over the customers' convenience.) I sat at a table to wait, there were plenty available - yet he unnervingly stood and stared at me as if I were wearing an orange prison suit with ankle chains on. I honestly think he was trying to scare me off. But why, Why would I go to a coffee shop to sit there by myself without a book or anything and stare at the door? Perhaps because I was expecting what happened. Moments later, my cash-bearing dearest arrived and we ate breakfast - but boy you could tell he was worried he might not make money. It's too bad they don't communicate the term "hurry" to their slow-as-frozen-molasses staff. Oh, the irony.

Also, Dogs used to be welcome to sit outside with you. Apparently, smokers still are, but sweet mutts who won't give you cancer are not.

Also very disappointing was when I asked Walter for help picking out some coffee beans to take home. When I asked, "what would you recommend? We like a medium bodied earthy flavor for our morning cup." His reply, "any of them. but you get a better deal if you buy a bigger bag." Wow, how helpful.

I was recently enjoying a leisurely Saturday morning with a friend, catching-up over steamy cups of espresso at Victor's Celtic Coffee Co in downtown Redmond. Our pleasant morning ended abruptly when we were informed by the owner that they "needed our table (because) there are customers waiting". Apparently 2 cups of coffee at $3.50 per cup only buys you one hour of table time at Victor's. Sure, the coffee house was busy. But my expectations in visiting a coffee house is to be able to sit, relax, enjoy my cup of coffee, visit with friends or enjoy my book or newspaper, and enjoy the aroma of the espresso. I am a supporter of individual coffee houses and restaurants. I love the individuality and "small town feel" and had frequently recommended Victor's coffee house to friends and co-workers. It saddens me that I will now be rescinding those recommendations and going elsewhere for my coffee dates.

Cons: Unwelcoming ambience-asked to leave after 1 hour

Very cozy atmosphere and I've always had excellent lattes. Breakfast sandwich is passable, the rest of the pastries are pretty bad. This place could be so much better - get the pastries from Pomegrante up the street, Walter! The best thing to eat here are Walter's waffles that he makes on Sat and Sun but only when they are relatively hot off the press in the early morning - divine. Don't bother with the old ones they stick in the pastry case - dried out and a shadow of the real thing. Also it's cash only.

I have been going to Victor's at least once a week since moving to the area 8 months ago now. After today's experience, I will never go back. Since reading the reviews I am not suprised by what I experienced this morning. I had my study books with me and Walter approached and told me that they have a "study limit" of one hour, and that he had been watching me, and that I had ten minutes left until I needed to leave. I was shocked! I had never been told off before (even after 4hrs of studying) AND to know that I had been "timed". I was not even half way through my coffee.. yet I was to leave! Also, what demise does that leave for studiers over gossipers who can sit there for more than one hour? Also, I usually have a coffee, fresh OJ, and a scone.. (nearing 10 dollars) and yet am told to leave after one hour simply because I have books. For all Walter knew, I was leaving within the hour anyway - but to be rude and tell me to leave when he saw I was still drinking HIS coffee... I just found it absurd! Even for a pick up and run coffee, Victor's has lost my business - and my "hour-long" meetings with study groups.. easily bringing in $60... forget it Walter, it's going to Starbucks where no-one bothers you how long you have been there - nor judges between those with books and those with mouths! Dissaponted as the coffee is great and we like supporting family businesses not giants!

Victor's used to be a part of the standard morning routine for both me and my wife. I'm sure we've spent thousands of dollars there over the years. We put up with Walter because we liked the coffee and the staff. But after an experience where Walter was rude to my wife (easily one of Victor's most loyal customers) and kicked her out of the restaurant, we haven't been back. I can only hope that either (a) word will get around, business will drop off, and Walter will be forced to sell the business to somebody that cares about customer service; or (b) Walter will apologize. If either of those happens, we're back in a second. As lots of other folks around here have said, it does indeed have the best coffee on the eastside.

Well, sadly I report that my experience with Victor's hasn't been top notch for quite sometime now. I've been going there just about daily for nearly a year and half now and it has been in a slow decline ever since my first visit. Though the coffee itself is usually better than most big named chains the service is increasingly deteriorating. With the implementation of the new computerized cash register it seemed that only few knew how to work it and they have all quit recently. Plus I have also experienced the scorched or lukewarm milk and half toasted breakfast sandwiches as well (usually thanks to Walter). My biggest gripe however is the fact that I too have heard from former employees about poor management on behalf of Walter. It was easy to see that things weren't the same there in the recent past. Once friendly and cheerful baristas no longer wore smiles on their faces and chatted about their weekends but instead reported they were no longer to socialize with customers and just make the coffee. It's too bad really, because what once was a bright start to my day is no longer an option, I'd rather go to Starbucks where I know that customer service is high on the priority list.

I have to strongly disagree with acroft. I too am a loyal long time customer . Back to the Jane and Victor days when they where out on Avondale road. Yes things have changed but so has Redmond. But don't kid yourself, Jane and Victor ran a tight ship. Did Victor ever talk to you when he was making coffee? I don't think so. Walter is a tuff cookie, but a softie at heart. I've known him from his " pioneer days". People don't hear about how he has helped several employees more than once. I know for a fact, that two of his recent employees have moved away, one is pregnant, one went corporate and two where " Let go" . But all that being said. Victor's still makes the best cup of coffee on the Eastside. As a business owner I know it isn't easy to please everyone nor is it easy to find good employees.

I get a coffee everyday from this place and agree that it is a nice change from the Starbucks and such. The owner, Walter is insane though. Everyone of the baristas, with exception of one has recently quit because of him. He wants to turn this great place into another "get em in, get em out" coffee place. Once I could talk to the baristas, now they get in trouble for doing it. Once they would make the coffee "unique" but no more thanks to the great business mind of Walter. I love the coffee, but more than that I loved the environment of this place. I would like to thank Walter for ruining my daily, morning venture and making it such a miserable place to work that all of current staff (who are great) feel they can no longer work in this type of micro-managed nonsense environment. I am sure Victor would be proud to see what Walter has destroyed.

Good coffee, crazy owner. Soon there will be no one to make the drinks and the lines won't be long because of the cool place, but because only Walter will be working there to make drinks, because apparently he is the only one who knows how to do anything correctly in the coffee business, or at least at this one. And for the record, I would rather ANYONE there make my drink before I go to the "express lane" for Walter's services.

Things just haven't been the same since Victor left. The new owner is a blight on the establishment, constantly rushing around and barking at both the customers and employees. The baristas try to make a decent latte, but it's hit and miss on quality and scalded milk or excess syrup is sadly a regular occurrance. The attention to detail just isn't there anymore. Their new study and laptop rule - max 1 hour, enforced prompty by the owner regardless of coffee purchases or time of day - makes it a very uncomfortable place to read or catch up on email. I used to love this place and wish I had something better to say, but it's just sad to see such a great place decline so rapidly.

This is great for a change from Starbuck's or Tully's. Its not as sterile an atmosphere as the chain coffee shops. It's much more personable and cozy. The dcor is warm and inviting. The quality of the food and beverages is good, the baristas are friendly and this is a great place to unwind and hang out with friends.

We tried this place after learning that Walter of Walters Waffles, which closed a few years back, took over the cafe. We were eagerly looking forward to getting authentic Belgian snack waffles on a Sunday (the only day he makes them) but were disappointed at the selection. They were cold, hard, and starchy, nothing like the authentic stuff from the streets of Brussels. I admit Im not a coffee drinker, and though Ive read good things about their espresso, their powdery hot chocolate left a lot to be desired.

The adopted meeting place for the Redmond Association for Spokenword (RASP) hosts RASP's open mike and Island Style Slam's on the first Saturday night of each month. Their raspberry croissants are to die for. Next time you want somewhere to hang out at, head over to Victor's.

A nice place to come by yourself or with friends. I love their mocha drinks. If you like sweet drinks, try their banana split mocha!

Victors is by far the best ambience in a little coffee company. Grab a book from the used bookstore next door, settle in with a nice snack and Espresso and feel the warmth from the fireplace. All in all, this is the place to get some light reading done and enjoy the best coffees in the world.

Victors is a nice change from the slop that Starbucks calls coffee......the lattes are so creamy and smooth even when it is nonfat....they take pride in their barista skills and it shows.....breakfast sandwich is awesome and quite a bargain.....wish there was more seating like a backroom or something.

Pros: excellent lattes, great breakfast sand, nice people

Cons: , not a ton of seats

.

I'm not sure whether it's the espresso or the milk, but the lattes I've had here taste odd. I'd describe it as "earthy" - the way goat cheese is earthy. The staff are nice. The interior is cramped - some would call it cozy. If the coffee was good, and the customers less odd, it would be a nice hang out.

from the first time i walked into victor's, i was hooked. this little coffeeshop has what other coffee companies need- unique style, creative atmosphere and truly great coffee. it is the perfect place to hang out with friends, read a good book or check out the live music and poetry readings that pack the little shop every Firday and Saturday night. victor's is the eastside's best kept secret that undoubtedly will not remain secret for long.

Great beans, coffee and friendly, down to earth service. Try the dill burgers.

It may be a small shop, and rather crowded on the weekends, but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, the coffee delicious and creative, and there are special perks (no pun intended), such as live music on Friday nights and poetry slams one or two Saturdays per month. Their chocolate whipped cream is a delicious "trademark".

Pros: Outdoor seating, Recently expanded, Downtown Redmond

This place has so many good features, it's hard to really compare it to anywhere else. The laid-back atmosphere (a rarity on the Eastside), the great service, the excellent coffee, and the great music on Fridays and Saturdays. This is just a great place to let your hair down, enjoy some great coffee and some great company.
Parking can be difficult on Fridays, Saturdays and in the early morning.
