Here is my very unpleasant story. I was once a devoted and loyal customer of Rolling Stones Records at Harlem and Irving. Every month or so I would go there with my CD list, or sometimes no list at all, just to check out what unexpected

Been going here for sometime. GOOD: Their PRICES. Usually $9.99 to $12.99 on average for cds which is GOOD. DVD's are fairly priced too. Used DVD's are a recent addition. BAD: They only seem to carry NEW RELEASES, with only a few exceptions. And when it's gone, chances are they WONT have it back in. So get it while you can. Also, I CANT STAND their EMPLOYEE'S. Not the ones at the register (they seem to be nice) but the dumb ass (usually a young chump) who stands by the cd's ALL DAY and will STARE at you like a hawk as if your only plan was to go in there and STEAL. Makes it very awkward (not a big place) and almost uncomfortable. If it wasnt for their prices and sometimes good selection, I would have rated lower.

Stepping inside Rolling Stone, there is great promise. Good music playing, unique decor inside [think: cd's hanging from the ceiling].But nothing is more annoying than the elitist music snobs that flock and/or work there. Oh, no, wait. Something IS more annoying: paying $22 for a cd you can buy for $13 at the Best Buy or Target less than a block away. Once upon a time, Rolling Stone, an independent record store just outside of Chicago, meant something. It was freedom from the corporate mainstream music forced upon the masses. These days, you don't have to spend too much money or waste time being sniffed at by the employees, who think themselves somehow above you on a musical level because they're on the other side of the counter. True, some great bands have passed through and done signings, but now all you're doing is paying extra for the attitude. It's not worth it. Get the hard to find music online and save yourself the aggravation. Everything else, you can get cheaper at a franchise store.

PROS: Good selection, neat decor, good music playing.
CONS: Overpriced, snobbish workers and customers.

This store ROCKS! Literally. When you open the doors, you will be greeted by their blasting stereo system and your eyes will be treated by some great deals on CDs, videos, t-shirts and music memorablia. Their staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. You will love the outside of this store which has the most amazing paintings of everyone from Kiss to Tina Turner and Springsteen. You will be treated like a rock star, baby!

PROS: Near lots of transportation, knowledgeable staff
CONS:

I cannot keep me and my wallet out if this store. You can find cheaper CD's etc at big name stores like Target etc, but you cannot find the range of goods that this store has. I was looking for a particular Australian band that was out in the 1970's and I found it (who'd have thought it would be here in the USA). I thought I would have to order it through an Australian store and pay for shipping etc which would be expensive. But I didnt because this store had it and it was priced very cheap (yippeee). So I recommend this store as their range or products etc are huge!!!!

PROS: GREAT RANGE OF GOODS
CONS: NOT AS CHEAP AS BIG NAME STORES

i remember going to rolling stones in the 80s wheni could buy a RECORD. they still have an excellent selection, but they do not carry all of the imports that are available. you have to ask if they can special order certain albums. as far as free stuff, if you're not into certain artists, you're not going to get much.

I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE ATMOSPHERE AND
THE COOL DISPLAYS. THEY CAN BE A BIT PRICEY.
THEY MAY HAVE COPIES OF RECORDINGS THAT ARE HARD TO FIND. I WOULDN'T MAKE THE TRIP TO SHOP ALL THE TIME-NOT EVEN SURE I WOULD GO BACK AGAIN, BUT YA GOTTA GO AT LEAST ONCE...JUST TO SAY YOU DID! IF YO ARE A MUSIC LOVER...YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. GO!

Rolling Stones is quite possibly the best record store i have ever had the pleasure of shopping at throughout the world, and i've been to many places. The selection is fantastic. If they dont happen to have what you want (which isnt likely) theyll order it for you. The prices arent that high either, granted it's not as cheap as Best Buy, but you get more than your moneys worth. If you're any where near Rolling Stones, definitely check it out! If you're lucky you'll get there on a nite when they have a real life band there. And they're big name bands, like korn, tool, NIN, metallica, and many others.

Now that I've entered my thirtysomething years, I have to admit that my musical tastes have mellowed somewhat. Nevertheless, I still enjoy going the the local record shop and rubbing elbows with the kiddies. And Rolling Stones Records is one of my favorite places to do that. The atmosphere is very much "independent record shop" However, the quality of the selection is hit and miss. For many older musical groups, the selection consists of maybe the 3 most popular albums plus a greatest hits compilation. For newer music, the selection is much better (of course). Best of all, they have a very good selection of music dvd's. The only downside to this shop is that it's located in a dying neighborhood (my opinion), and it's located next to Harlem-Irving Plaza--a lousy excuse for a mall.

Ozzy and Madonna watch over this small, flashy storefront with its appropriately psychedelic logo; after all, the store first opened in 1971. A giant RCA dog silently greets you as you enter this blast of music and…
