I was referred to Russell at Waterloo Shell shortly after moving to the area. As a woman by myself at the time, and driving a "high maintenance" vehicle, finding an honest mechanic was important to me. Russell has exceeded my expectations. He has never "talked down" to me, or tried to sell me something I don't need. In fact, he's talked me OUT of doing something (or at least into delaying it) more than once. That's money out of his pocket, but he wants to do what's right for the customer. I even saw him repair a passing traveler's tire for next to nothing (maybe $5), when lesser mechanics would have rooked an out-of-stater with a flat.

Russell sometimes has assistants, but for most of the time I've known him he has worked alone. Upside of that arrangement: you speak DIRECTLY to the person who is going to work on your car. Downside: if he runs into a problem, there is no one else there to help him keep things moving.

There is also no waiting area at the garage -- although there is a convenience store attached, and a sub shop and a fried chicken place on an adjoining parking lot. With only one mechanic working, it's more likely that you'll be dropping your vehicle off rather than waiting around for it. Anyhow, YOU pay for waiting areas with your repair $$$... I'm perfectly happy to amuse myself (or go home and come back tomorrow) in exchange for getting honest service at a good price.

PROS: HONEST!!
CONS: even an honest mechanic can only do so much by himself
