Very positive experience!
by Marty P.
It is extremely difficult to imagine that the people who have posted negative reviews visited the same facility as we encountered today. Every single person treated us exceptionally well. I called numerous times before our appointment to ask questions, and each time the person answering was courteous and patient. Shannon was the technician who handled our cat and took information. She was very kind and gentle. Dr. Webb, an ophthalmologist, performed the examination. She, too, was kind and gentle, explaining each step before she performed it. She took time to draw a detailed diagram and explain our cat's condition, and she answered all of our questions without ever making us feel rushed. We had inquired ahead of time as to what the charges would be. We felt they were reasonable for the tests performed and for all the time given us by a highly trained specialist. We always expect to pay for services rendered when we receive them, and we were able to use a major credit card. We would highly recommend MedVet!

Don't think about going unless you're very rich....
by Jodi B.
I took my 9yr old Lhasa Apso female here last year as she had been vomiting constantly, lethargic, and could barely walk. It was the weekend and I was afraid she wouldnt make it through until Monday. So I took her there and was told I had to pay about $1000 before they would look at her. That was all I had to my name but when it's your baby you'll do whatever you can. I prayed they wouldn't need more. They looked at her couldnt figure out what was wrong kept her overnight and called me to come and get her the next day. I came they said she had a bacterial infection and was fine now with iv's and fluids. As soon as I left with her she started being sick in the parking lot... she was no better at all! I had to turn right around and take her back in. They said just give her the meds and see how she does over the weekend :-( By this time she was so nervous and sick I just took her home and called the regular vet on Monday. If I have no other alternative I would go here... but if there is any way you can avoid it I would. They are not friendly, they only care about money. It's like a converyer belt... get them in get them out ... take all the $$$ you can. And for the lady who said below that some of us expect to have tiffany care with dollar store prices... you're right. It's a life. Not a piece of jewelry. And for your other comment about people not needing to have the pets if they can't pay for emergencies... life is full of surprises... we do what we can and give all the love and comforts we can. That does not mean we should pay $1000 for our furry babies simply because some greedy vet knows we have no other alternative if we want to keep our loved one's with us. Great sympathy you have for people who do their best! Good luck to the rest of you... we should all get together and protest the vet prices there. It's extortion. Jodi

Professional and Caring Staff
by Mike D.
We recently took our 10 year Chow to Medvet based on a referral by our local vet that we trust very much. They ran tests, some of which were already run, but they added some. What they found was that our beloved dog had stomach cancer. They explained the surgical options very well including the downside and long term prognosis, which was not very good being that it was 4 months. They took their time to explain all sides and answer our questions. It was expensive 750 dollars, but Pavlov is part of our family and I sincerely feel they did what experts are supposed to do. I almost did not take him based on the may reviews here, but I fell it is only fair to note that while I hated the diagnosis, I felt it was given with compassion and facts. As for the front desk we were not aksed for any funds until we were completely done, told what the costs would be before they were done. The staff offered us drinks and such throughout the wait. I trust these people, and if it is your loved pet I think you should too.I know not all outcomes are what we expect, and costs are high, but from my experience, if I ever had a similar situation I would go back. As I said, I almost did not go, and if not for the trust of our vet would not have based on the other reviews, so i need to add one that shows both sides.

Med Vet Associates cant be trusted
by Ashley H.
VERY VERY DISSATISFIED WITH MEDVET.I have a brand new English Bull Terrier puppy, I had only had her for about 36 hours and she was 6 weeks old and she started vomiting uncontrollably and became very lethargic. (at least as far as I could tell since I did not know her well enough to know what was lethargic for her) She quickly declined over about 12-16 hours so I took her to MEDVET in Worthington.
To start, they put me and my 4 year old in a room for almost 3 HOURS, we were actually on our way out the door when a tech came in and started asking us questions. I told her at that time that I had a stool sample and wanted it checked for parasites and bacteria as most of what I had read online indicted one of those. They checked her for parvo and it was negative. They then ran 150.00 worth of x-rays and found small pocket that they called either an abscess or a gas bubble. The doctor told me it was more than likely nothing but we had three options, exploratory surgery, overnight stay with meds and fluids, or they could pump her up with fluids and meds and send her home. SURGERY?? Really? Exploratory surgery on a 6 week old puppy that more than likely has a gas bubble? I was appalled, I took the option for fluids, meds for the nausea and we got out of there, but not before spending $400.00 on no diagnosis. Well, over the next 24 hours she did not get any better and I called our vet, they got her in immediately and the very first thing the checked was her stool. Turns out she had a bacterial infection in her intestines SO, if MEDVET would have checked her stool like I requested originally it would have saved me hundreds of dollars. But I trusted them they are the experts right? They know what they are doing so maybe what I read is incorrect and they knew she did not have an infection or something else, she would just get better is what I was told by MEDVET.
I became so angry over the next couple days for my extremely huge vet bills and for the fact that this poor puppy just had the worst 5 days of her poor little life, (there were a number of other little things that happened to her in the meantime) so I called MEDVET and told them I thought I should be reimbursed for some of the unnecessary expenses. I explained how upset I was and that the service was HORRIBLE and I was assured that they would review my case and someone would be back to me in 3-5 days max. Well, it is has now been 14 days and not a word. I called MEDVET today and of course; the person who I originally spoke with is not in, so I was transferred to someone else who was going to return my call within 5 minutes. 4 hours later and still nothing.
I generally do not write negative reviews because everyone has bad days, off days, and things happen, but this is inexcusable, unprofessional and unacceptable. I regret now that I did not read reviews on MEDVET of Worthington before taking my Daisy there as I would have went somewhere else FOR SURE and possibly saved 400.00 + and kept my little baby girl from suffering for the additional days caused by MEDVETs negligence. Please consider the reviews you are reading, they are true with MEDVET, not a fluke, not just bad day but a bad organization!

Lousy treatment cost me my friend
by Michael T.
My 6 year old Jack Russell came down with Crohn's. (Genetic according to Med Vet). My vet had me take her to Med Vet for treatment. She rallied, and then I took her back for a 4 week check up at Med Vet; they discontinued some medicines and added some new. 18 hours later she had a stroke and when I rushed her back to Med Vet we had to put her down. I feel they may not have sized the dosage to the little dog, or wrong medicine was given. Med Vet charged thousands of dollars, but gave poor treatment, followup and monitoring. I felt during treatment, and feel strongly now, that they are more interested in the money than in the pets. (Every time I went in they charged me a thousand dollars plus.) The treatment did not match the cost. My 6 year old Jack should not have had a stroke. I would never take another animal to Med Vet.

Med Vet Associates is Unparalleled
by Arby C.
We took our beloved boxer, Gracie, to MedVet 2-3 times a week from Dayton, Ohio; and received the most wonderful quality and compassionate care by specialists in every field she needed from radiation oncology and oncology to end of life ER care. Her overall care was managed by an expert internal medicine specialist, Dr. Forman. We worked together as a team for as long as possible, and were able to say goodbye with the loving support of MedVet staff. Volunteers made waiting for treatment and appointments easier with drinks and a listening ear. Yes, the care is expensive. But the quality is unparalleled. Remember, those docs went way beyond 4 years of vet school. They have 11 years of education. Clients can expect to pay for specialized training. The front desk has a hard job to ask for money, but they did so in a professional fashion. Yes, we wish all critters could have the care they deserve, but neither people nor animals have access to best care, or any care. My daughter was so impressed with MedVet that it is her goal to start a fund for dogs that need the ER care brought by owners without funds. We were lucky this time around...we had a wedding fund to tap into and postponed the wedding for a year. Thank God for the dedication of this team of top drawer, sensitive specialists who have gone on to higher education to be able to diagnose and treat the serious medical conditions. Thank God for our own local vet that referred us for the specialized care. A. Carlisle

Medvet Worthington, Ohio
by Heather L.
I took my 2 year old Maltipoo to Medvet after my 8 yr. old daughter fell on her and ruptured 2 disc in her back. The place was incredible! The love and care they showed her before, during and after surgery was and still is outstanding. It has been 3 weeks since her surgery and she is walking, still has a staggered back end but is improving everyday. I thought we were going to have to euthanize her before surgery due to the pain she was in but she shows no sign of pain only frustration because she is ready to play. The staff answered all of my questions and went out of their way to get her to eat,one of the techs even went on her own time and bought her vanilla yogurt, a treat she can't resist, since I live 3 hours away. It was an expensive surgery but one that was well worth every cent. Dr. Kennedy and staff were amazing and I would recommend them with hesitation.

2 Horrible experiences TAKE your ANIMALS TO OSU
by Amanda L.
Let me just begin by saying that yes the front desk staff are extremely rude and all they care about is getting their money up front. NO compassion with the employees, vet techs and doctors at this place. DO NOT be fooled by the looks of the place and the lady that comes around to get you something to drink, yes it does seem nicer than a hospital for people but it is obvious MedVets driving motive is money. The front desk staff is just the start of this places problems. And no vet clinic should have this many negative reviews on line, which sadly I will add to.
PLEASE READ THIS. My dog was so ill that he could not open his eyes, had a high fever and wimpered when I picked him up. Med Vet docs diagnosed him with a UTI. I insisted that there was more going on because last time I checked a simple UTI does not cause a dog to become completely lame. The doctors and techs refused to acknowledge that he was having major issues walking. They even had an orthopedic surgeon evaluate my dog. He found nothing wrong. My dog was sent home 2 days later with a fever and still in complete pain and misery. They claimed he was doing great and told me not to worry. I spent 1400 for some IV fluids and meds and an ultrasound. I was so concerned about his condition that I called the doctors back 4 times and left messages expressing my concern. I NEVER got a call back. I became so worried that I took my dog to OSU's veterinary hospital for a second evaluation. The doctors there got us in right away and alerted me that we had some major issues going on. My dog was diagnosed with auto immune poly arthritis which causes excruciating pain, makes a dog completely lame and causes a spiked fever. Now, isn't that scary that Dr. Hostutler and Dr. Jennifer Nielsen and an orthopedic doctor could not figure this out on their own? Instead I was treated like an idiot and my dog was shoved out ther door because they just thought it was a UTI.
I am completely sick about the situation at MedVet and I will never allow my animals into that clinic again. If you want quality care take your animals to Ohio State, I have had nothing but great experiences there. The sadder part is the more people I tell about medvet, the more horror stories I hear. I plan on demanding a medical review and I will be presenting my case to to medvet this weekend in person.

rascal
by charles d.
After reading the reviews i was alittle scared about taking Rascal here. I am happy to say he is doing alot better now [liver problems]. Thanks to Nicole for updates over the phone because we live 3 hours away. And Rascal would like to say thank you to Dr.Lisa Prior. Everyone was writing about the front desk being rude ,we was treated wonderful by the lady that helped us check out[she had dark wavy hair with maybe a tint of red in it] Reviews was right about the money very expensive and had to pay up front. But worth it to get Rascal feeling better. Wasted alot of money on other doctors that didn't help. THANKS AGAIN MEDVET! From all of rascal's family

Thanks for the reviews
by dennis w.
After reading all the reviews I am definitely cancelling my appointment with Med Vet for next week. I know I would be extremely upset if I was treated poorly up front and also if money was the driving force for any treatment. They were recommended by my vet, whom I will question as to why, on my next visit.

GREAT CARE!!
by shannon c.
My English Bulldog had to have knee surgery performed this week and it was done at Med Vet.I can not say enough wonderful things about the surgery that he had or the care he received while he was there. We were treated so kindly and my dog was treated better than people are treated in a hospital!!!! I read the other reviews after my apt. was made and I'm SO glad I still went.Hopefully we don't have to have this kind of treatment again but if we ever should this will be the first and only place we will ever go.

I wish my doctor treated me the way Zoey gets treated at MedVet...
by M. S.
This is the best place to take your dog. It really hurts to see that people can say hurtful things about others without knowing the real facts. My dog Zoe loves to come to med Vet. He is always treated and greeted by the front desk receptionists as if he was their own pet. His doctor is extremely caring and won't leave you disappointed by not answering your questions. The prices are reasonable too. They are specialists and have dedicated many years to study and learn to treat each disease. My family and friends love MedVet. We will always save a few dollars to give our pets the best care they deserve. You can feel the passion these people have for pets the minute you walk inside those glass doors. They are not just about money....I promise!!!!

Rude/lazy at front desk/office
by Jeff P.
The staff at the front desk/office are extremely rude and uncaring. All they care about at this place is the money. I have never been treated with such disrespect. They should fire that lady! They could care less for the health of your pet. The lady I dealt with was extremely unpleasant, lazy, and rude. The funny thing was, she had an attitude from the get-go.
For your pet's sake(and yours), please go to another vet!

A Few Years Ago and my dog Tyler
by Diane B.
A few years ago I took my dog, Tyler to Med Vet. He was hunching up with back pain. It was a Sunday morning so my regular vet was not in the office. I called Med Vet and took him in, and yes that was the worse experience of my dog owning life. The people up front were very rude. Once I finally got to see a vet the first thing out of her mouth was payment. She told me a stupid amount which I am thinking, "these vets really don't care about the animals; they are blood suckers!" On top of that she was very rude and so uncaring.I ended up taking Tyler back home and just watched him till Monday morning. I can say that after watching these people and my gut feeling was to flight and take my dog with me.I would not recommend for anyone to take their dog there. If they are in that bad of shape; they are better off with the owners until they can see their vet. Even if it's a matter of life or death, at least the owners can make them more comfortable than that place.Oh and by the way my friend took her dog there last year for lung cancer. They gave her false hope by telling her this expensive surgery would save his life and the cancer had not spread anywhere else. Well guess what....after the surgery they gave him six months to live. Then tried to talk them in kimo. They are a joke.

good docs but you may lose control of your pets;
by Marc F.
I have taken two cats (both for heart disease issues) and a dog (who was attacked by a much larger dog) to Met-Vet.
When the first cat developed a heart problem our regular vet recommended MetVet and the first visit when well,. It did take $1500 worth of tests but we found out exactly what was wrong and learned ways to help him and what to look for when the end was near.
The bad part was when I saw those "the end" symptoms come on and took him in to be put to sleep. They took him away from me and would not let me see him even though I kept asking to be with him.
It took FOUR hrs before they finally brought him to me and gave him the shot to put him to sleep . He was in terrible pain that whole time. He suffered for the last four hours of his life off in a cage by himself. I can still feel tears coming when I think about him lying there by himself in misery for four hours. I would never take another animal there to be put to sleep!
For us they have done their best in diagnosis.
I have learned to stand up to them and not let them take my animals away from my sight unless I know exactly what is going to happen and that the procedure will be done immediately.
I do think they have some very good techs and doctors. To me, it is like any really big hospital (remind me of OSU Hpspital) in that emergencies get the fastest care, some people have no interpersonal skills , and your loved one needs someone there to look after his/her i nterests.

Good Service
by laurie W.
I had a 16 year old cat that had been declining slowly over the last couple months. Last night around 9 she started having difficultly breathing and was gasping for air. This came on rather sudden since just that morning she was moving around and eating. I immediately called Med vet and thru my sobs asked what the cost would be to have her put down. I knew it was time and did not want her to suffer thru the night. They told me the cost which was about 40 dollars more than my normal vet cost but it would have definitely been worth it to stop her suffering. We loaded her up in a box and headed over thru the snow and unplowed roads but unfortunately she passed away before we even got there. They were very kind once we arrived, they took her straight back to confirm with a vet that she had indeed passed. They were very understanding and patient and contrary to what I have read here, they did not ask for a dime until everything was done. I knew the full price before even leaving my home. They of course did not charge me the full quoted price since she had passed already but they did charge a small fee since I left her there to be cremated. They also informed me that they would be sending me a card with her paw prints on it which I thought was a nice gesture. SO, in an emergency I would use them again. Having a sick or injured animal is a very traumatic event especially if you are a true animal lover.

a False Sense Of Security
by DEBORAH Z.
Do not be complacent just because you think you're paying top dollar. My dog was acutely ill, with a high temp. and difficulty breathing when I rushed to Medvet. The doctor said he didn't look that bad to her, and my dog should see an internist in the morning. I believed she knew more than me. They said they would call me if there were any changes and I went home-big mistake!! No one watched over my beloved dog as he continued to deteriorate during the nite, he was never treated. The internist who finally saw him the next morning said he was unconscious and basically dead by the time he saw him. A temp of 108 with bloody foam coming out of his nose and mouth. He advised euthanasia. Shocked, I rushed to Medvet in disbelief-where was the call? He died in agony before I got there. No care or pain-killers there! To the internists credit, he called for a medical review and they admitted he should have been treated when he came in. No refund of my $1400 for his painfull nites stay either. If you HAVE to take your pet there in an emergency, STAY! Or at least keep calling. DO NOT assume someone is paying attention and your pet is not suffering.

World class without question
by Sharienne W.
My dog received such attention and care from doctors and staff. I honestly believe she was comfortable despite the fact that we couldn't be there at the end. It was tough to not hold her one last time. But, we received a cast of her paw print and such kind cards. If I couldn't be there, I would want these people to be there with my dog again.
All that AND the highest quality vet care I've ever encountered. I'm comforted by the fact that there was nothing more I could possibly have done for her and that her experience will be used to improve care for other dogs in the future.
May I suggest pet insurance to deal with the cost. I thought the cost was reasonable considering her treatment, but that still meant some $. We had her covered since she was a puppy with the cancer rider. Twenty years ago I was faced with choosing between my dog's life and paying bills. The insurance makes it less likely I'll have to face that horrible choice again. If you prefer, open a savings account to put aside money monthly for animal health care. I don't have the discipline to do that, so I do the insurance instead.

You get what you pay for...
It's amazing to me how many complaints there are about MedVet's prices. It seems to me that many want Tiffany's care for a Dollar Store price.
The doctors at MedVet are the most highly-trained veterinary professionals there are. They have the most up-to-date equipment. Neither the schooling nor the equipment is cheap. And the results are amazing.
In my dealings with the Front Desk staff, I have always found them to be polite, personable, and respectful. And when the tragedies inevitably occur (they are working for an ER hospital, after all), they will oftentimes cry right along with you, as they did with me.
MedVet is privately owned, so no, they won't "bill you". But there is an option for a line of credit through a secondary carrier. If you can't get approved, that's not MedVet's fault.
And frankly, if you don't have the funds to cover emergency medical care, I question why you have a pet in the first place. They are not disposable. They need proper care, just like a child.
MedVet has the smartest, most dedicated doctors and technicians and the most caring support staff I have ever seen. They are well worth the price.

The best of the best!!
by Karla H.
I can't say enough about Med Vet & the staff. In the last 6 years, I've taken 4 cats & a dog for procedures that required a specialist. My last dealing with them was just last week & Dr. Kennedy went above my expectations. I would never take my animals to anyone else that required this type of attention. This is not your normal vets office, this is for emergencies and conditions that require a specialist. Each and every time I've taken my animals to them they treat & care for them like no one I've ever seen. I am thankful that they are around for gladly pay for the health/care of my animals.

by p k.
Jon Shiroma is an excellent radiologist . I would strongly suggest you take your pet ther.
As for any of oyu out there concerned about the price..these doctors have studied for years ..first to get through vet school and then to become specialists in their field.
Great insurance plan through www.HSUS.org.. pays for 70 % of specialists costs but not sure if diagnostic tests like ultra sound are covered...

Wow1kinda scared
by S M.
I need to take my dog to MedVet for an ultrasound and to see a specialist..My Vet can not do the needed tests. After reading these comments I am not sure if this is a good idea. Even the ones that are rated great even scare me due to the price. What are some of working people to do for our pets who get sick, just let them suffer? There has got to be a cheaper way of helping our pets. Payment plan?
Is there anyplace else...how is OSU?

Good doctors & good follow-up
by winston j.
We took our female german shepherd to Med Vet last winter with life-threatening pneumonia that flared up on a Sunday evening. I can't say enough about the professionalism of the doctors and staff there. She had to stay a week and they called twice a day to update me and answer questions. After she was released, they continued to call.
It was pricey, but worth it.

Great doctors and staff
by Anonymous
Years ago, we took our older cat for emergency service and was impressed with the doctors and thought the cost was reasonable.
We recently had to take a younger cat for allergy testing. OSU wanted us to come in for a "consultation", then allergy testing. Our regular vet already confirmed that the cat has allergies, we were just wanting to find out, through testing, what specific allergies he has and treatment. The regular vet forwards all medical history, so I'm not sure what the consultation was going to do. I have a full time job and don't have time to take off work constantly for my appointments AND vet appointments. Med Vet scheduled an appointment for allergy testing with no consultation. They called with results, mailed medication, and he is now taking allergy shots. This has been very convenient and helpful. Thank you.

My dog has cancer and I have been trying to determine the course of treatment. The doctor when I can get to her is kind and informative. I agree that the front desk lacks something to be desired. They have not yet asked me for money up front. But I am really annoyed at the inability of the front desk to make an appointment. That is normally what the people at the front desk do. I had to call numerous times before I could get past the front desk and voice mail to make an appointment with the doctor. They told me I should hurry up and make up my mind, but they were in no hurry to schedule me once I decided in favor of quality of life in my pup's last days as opposed to expensive treatments that would impact his ability to enjoy his remaining time. As a human, if I were told there was 0% chance of recovery, I would not opt for potentially painful treatments, I will not do that do my pet.

Before taking your pet here, have BIG bucks with you. They WILL NOT treat an animal without up front payment.
Several German Shepherds ago, when MedVets first opened on Cleveland Ave, my GS was hit by a car. MedVets met my car immediately at the front door with a gurney, rushed her to the back, she was dying on the gurney, her eyes were glazing over and they revived her 3 times. I got to see her. I was impressed with all that was being done. The Vet came out with updates 3 x's before she expired and later sent a Sympathy card to my home. I could not sing their caring attitude enough to all the dog owners that I know (100's)
I was extremely disappointed this time. The demand for money before doing anything. The very discourteous front desk people.
I had been running my current GS in a park when he broke his leg.
He screamed from the moment it happened to my Vet's, who gave him pain meds, to MedVets where he was eventally wheeled into a back room.
One half hour after waiting in line and filling out papers, I was told to pay $1450 before they would look at him.
I had no money with me.
I was told to go home and call them back with a credit card number. From leg break to call back was about one and half hours.
I could only hope that some sympathetic soul behind the wood doors would do SOMETHING for his pain. I got no answer when I asked the infamous Front Desk. They have never heard the phrase, "I don't know but I'll find out for you".
Late the same night, a caller said surgery went well, he was sedated. Pick him up tomorrow.
Next day, a caller said he wasn't NOT doing well (continuous rolling in his crate). He would have to stay another day.
The following day I was told to come get him .
I met with one of the original MedVet Tech's who really cared.
She went over care, treatment, meds, physical therapy (on a video)
and what to look for if going badly and call them if I needed to.
I did call and go back. I wouldn't do it twice.
Today was my third visit, same leg-break, 6 wk scheduled appt, Bad limp, new x-ray.
Before I learned anything, the Front Desk red-haired employee wanted $60. No explaination, no hello, no introduction. Nothing. It's $60!
So I asked for what? X-ray. $60! I thought she was going to sling the receipt and card back at me. I guess I shouldn't have asked what I was paying for. She was p---ed. No 'thank you', no ''I hope your dog is better'. She turned and walked off.
I said, 'You're welcome'. For paying a bill on the spot of over $3,000 immediately when they wanted it, I thought I at least deserved a smile and a thank-you. NOT from this Front Desk bunch. They can hardly wait to get rid of you to shuffle more papers or play the snippy games they learned in high school.
The surgeon was caring, went over the X-ray briefly, actually answered my short quesstions and said he was doing fine so far. 3 more weeks of bedrest because he's a big dog. He's even making new bone. The x-ray was crystal clear. Big limp was somewhat normal. Make a 3 wk appt.
Back to the Front Desk for the 3 wk appt. I was ignored. The red-head saw me, ignored me.
Not one of the three were assigned to watch and wait on customers obviously. Not one acknowledged my presence. Not one turned to see if a customer was waiting.
These 3 need to be given a job looking for a job elsewhere. Not with customers.
The brunette decided eventually that I wasn't going away. She did tear herself away long enough to ask what I wanted and get another person behind the wood doors who made the 3 wk appt.for me. A Vet Tech, I think.
While the Vet Tech was getting my info, looking it up, setting up the appt, putting it into the computer and writing up an appointment card, the petite (3rd one) had positioned herself directly across from me leaning on the back counter, hands on hips, glaring directly at me the ENTIRE time.
I suppose she thought she was intimidating. I thought it very childish, pathetic behavior, totally inappropriate and certainly not deserving of the job she has.
But the responsibility lies directly on the person above this Front Office crew. Either train them or get rid of them. There is a big problem that is not being addressed. If you can't teach these kids appropriate behavior, resign! This level of employeee are low skilled, not difficult to replace.
The money demand probably originates with the owner. It is not a pretty sight from a pet-owners perspective. It appears to be pure GREED.
My conclusion of MedVets is:
If you're wealthy and like to be abused by the Front Office crew, be my guest. These are the people you see twice at each visit.
I will not tolerate this behavior from anyone or any business.
I deserve better and so do you.
I prefer people who care about my pet, will immediately come to his aide and demand money after he's been seen NOT before as he writhes and screams in pain.

Very Satisfied
by Anonymous
I have had two occasions to take a dog to Med-Vet over the last 5 years. Each occasion was for a condition which was not being treated or diagnosed properly by their regular veterinarian. I feel that the dog was properly diagnosed and treated both times.
My mother's 7 year old, 90 lb. Labrador, could hardly breathe and his local veterinarian said he had throat cancer. I wanted him to be properly treated and his life extended if possible because my mother loved him so much and she herself was suffering from cancer so I sought out a facility with capability to treat cancer...Med-Vet in Columbus.
Med-Vet did a CT scan which showed no cancer. However, Dr. Shertle said the dog couldn't breathe because he had a paralyzed trachea. Dr. Shertle recommended surgery to open up his trachea. The Labrador had the surgery which came with no guarantees. However, he recovered very well and resumed his active and useful life as a companion and guard for my mother. He outlived her by one and a half years and died of pulmonary hypertension (also diagnosed and treated by Med-Vet). His last weeks were made more comfortable by the proper medications.
I have found Med-Vet to be first rate. The doctors are polite and spend a great deal of time patiently explaining and listening.
Med-Vet's diagnostic capability is comparable to what is available to humans and the veterinarians are specialists. So, you can expect to pay for that level of expertise. Those are just the hard facts of life.
I would use them again and recommend them to anyone.

DO bring your pets here-GREAT VETS!
by C. C.
I am dismayed at the negative reviews I've read here. My cat had a pacemaker put in about five years ago, and we see his two cardiologists at Medvet a couple of times a year. I would faithfully follow Dr. Lemkheul if she ever went anywhere else. My other cat was diagnosed with a tumor which MedVet Surgery operated on and found to be cancerous. The Pathology Department was perfectly correct with their diagnosis- I had an outside pathologist( one of the best in the city who works at a major hospital) look at the slides, and he agreed completely with MedVet. The Oncology department was wonderful treating my baby with chemotherapy and seriously talking to me when it was time to just let him go to God. Other family pets of ours have been seen and treated by Internal Medicine, Opthamology, and Dermatology, and we are satisfied with each visit. Your estimated costs are presented before your pet is seen, and people need to remember that, just like with humans, visits and procedures done by specialists cost more! Too, this is also an Emergency Hospital, so patience is required as your pet's appointment may be pushed back if emergencies come in.

Horrific!!!!!!
by Belinda J.
How on earth can this place still be open? I honestly do not think I have EVER met so many rude and inept Dr.'s in my entire life! Don't even get me started on their tech.'s and office staff! Last week I simply took my elderly cat in for a steroid injection. Our usual vet was on vacation, so I called MedVet and asked if I could make an appointment. I explained that my regular vet had referred me to them. They asked me to please drop my cat off at 7:45 AM. I found this rather odd, however they said that they were backed-up, and they would get to her when they had time. I mistakenly assumed that I would be able to get her within a couple of hours. However, by 5:00 PM, I still had not heard from these idiots. I proceeded to call, and was told by the nastiest receptionist that not only was my cat NOT done, but she would NOT be available for pick-up until later that night! I mentioned that she was only there to have an injection. She informed me that they were STILL backed-up, and that I could get her, "TONIGHT, TONIGHT!" Are you kidding me?My question is this, with the idiots that work at that place, how can ANYONE put their beloved pets life in their hands???? You can bet that ALL of my friends will hear about this, and I will be contacting the hospital administrator asap!

Glad my wife and I read the reviews!
by Thomas S.
We have an elderly cat, and our regular veterinarian was going to refer us to MedVet for her heart murmer. It seems a bit fishy, to us, that most veterinarians here in Columbus are so eager to refer our cat to MedVet. Perhaps there is $ changing hands? Who knows, but I'll be willing to bet on it. As it is, we will be taking Fritzie to the OSU hospital. What worries us is the fact that most of MedVet's employees seem to be graduates of OSU. Maybe we should take her out of state!
Thanks for the info. Your reviews made our decision much easier.

MedVet-Greatly lacking qualified Dr.'s
by Daniel W.
I used to take my dog to MedVet, and then they moved into a new facility. Since then, the quality has suffered severely. There are far too many Dr.'s that think they know it all....and know nothing. I am honestly shocked that their licences have not been revoked! I brought my dog in for a painful abdomen. They informed me he had a bladder infection. Turns out, no surprise here, they were wrong. They had misdiagnosed him completely. He had liver cancer, and ended up dying 2 months after seeing them. What horrible people!
I can sympathize with the woman who left the previous review. I got another dog a few months ago, and will NEVER take her to MedVet. I value her life too much to put her through the torture chamber otherwise known as MedVet!

Save your money, and your pets life, by going elsewhere.
by Jane D.
Bottom line, they misdiagnosed my pet 3 times, operated on him 4 times, and have now decided that he has less than 3 months to live, and all over the course of 2 months. If their less than brilliant pathologists would have done their job correctly the first time, perhaps he would have spent the last 2 months at home, instead of sitting in a cage waiting for something else to be 'diagnosed'. Oh, and I also have the added benefit of owing over $13,000.00 at this point, with absolutely NO IMPROVEMENT. Trust me, go somewhere else instead of riding the hellish emotional roller coaster that MedVet will put you through. Your pets life is worth so much more than that. Shame on you MedVet.

Excellent care for Betty at Med Vet
by Roy E.
Our yellow lab Betty had a Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy for a ruptured ACL on her left rear leg. The staff was very professional and informed us of all of the options and costs involved with each option. They had a nerve specialist examine Betty before the surgery to assess her spinal bone spur situation. She has recovered beautifully, walking and running normally. This procedure was expensive, but like most things in life, you get what you pay for. Thank to Dr. Shawn Kennedy and the entire Med Vet staff!
PROS: Professional Organization
CONS: none

Very competent staff if you can't get to your own vet. Took ours there on a Friday night and stayed until Monday. You almost need to take a second mortgage on your home to pay the bill.

I was very happy to have Med Vet when my Pekgineese pup was attacked by astray German Sheppard on evening. I tried to reah my vet, but they were not open. The doctors there were very kind. But, I was not imformed before hand of the cost. I was totally shocked at the prices, and they did not have a bill me option, I had to pay right then, or leave my precious pup with them.

This is a great place to have around if your pet should get into a situation where your regular vet is unable to see them. However, I think it would be wise to research a better ER center for pets as this place is exspensive beyond belief. Definetly worth calming your animal down and waiting until morning if its possible. Or perhaps OSU has an emergency unit. Anyway, dont try this one-you will be stuck waiting for HOURS while they figure out how much they charge you.

Professional Service and Reasonable Bill

My pet was in labor and not delivering her third pup. I went in asking for what I believed was needed. I had to complete paperwork and wait in the waiting room. The paperwork I completed said I would be informed of the cost before any procedure. Once in a treatment room, the personnel were very caring, but moved very slowly for me. We checked in at 8:16 pm, but did not see anyone until after 9 pm. The Dr. seemed very knowledgeable and kind. She was very swift in treatment once she finally got with us. My bitch was able to deliver her third pup about 20 minutes after receiving the drug I requested (about 10 PM)when I we brought her in. Unfortunately, the puppy had serious birth defects and was struggling to survive. The Dr. kindly advised us of her condition and helped us decide to euthanize her. She gave us a beautiful card with her sweet footprints to take home. She checked over our Mommy and her two pups and sent us home to grow. I had no idea of what my bill might be until I reached the service desk. It seemed very reasonable or I might have seriously questioned them as they had advised that I would be informed PRIOR to any procedure. I would be asking more questions and more pushy next time. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome.
