my wife went in to have 3 teeth pulled. A week and a half later she had to go back in because she was still bleeding some, in pain and thought she felt part of a tooth left behind. Sure enough there was. Now it has been over a month and she has had two pieces of bone or tooth pushed through her gums causing pain and bleeding.Yesterday she felt a big chunk of bone that was not smoothed out after her wisdom tooth was pulled. It is now poking through the gums causing pain and bleeding she also found a big chunk of her moler STILL left behind. This will be her third co-pay she is being charged for.all I have to say is" Willamette dental SUCKS!!!!!!!!!" we absolutely hate them.she was already scared of dentists now she is pertified of them.

The Puyallup office of Willamette dental is by far the WORSTdentist office in the Puget Sound area. We had Dr. Chin (whom you could not understand at all). I had 2 fillings on the left bottom and speed is all this dentist is interested in. First came his HORRIBLE administration of the novacaine. He jammed the needle in so far that I flew up out of the chair. Counting the injection to the 2 fillings, the total time elapsed was 19 minutes. 19 MINUTES!!! He did not smooth out the filling, so it was cutting my tongue and cheek. I could barely make it to the Walmart to get ibuprophen fast enough. I am not one to take medication of any kind in my 40 years, but this was awful. By the next morning, my jaw was swollen and I couldn't even eat. Turns out he hit the bone when he shoved the needle in and I ended up on hydrocodone for the next 3 days. When I went in to have my jaw looked at again, one of the staff told me that he was an ex military dentist and she wouldn't see him if she was paid to. 'He has no compassion nor concern for his patients' is what she confided in me.
Soon following, I had to have a cleaning from their hygenist (a man, no biggie). Goodness, someone should take away his hook tool. He kept poking and pulling at my gums. When my mouth was full of blood, I got up from the chair and told him he was done. He had the nerve to tell me I was being sensitive. SERIOUSLY???
Other people from my husband's work soon told me of my error. Never go to the Puyallup office. I immediately had our records transferred to the Federal Way office with Dr. Hennessey and have been so pleased. He smoothed out my tooth, finished the work that was needed (gently, might I add) and had such a relaxed and pleasant demeanor. The hygenists are thorough and very kind. Complete 180 from their sister office.
Today, I got a call from my daughter who went to Puyallup the other day (against my suggestion) and guess who she got??? Dr. Chin. Guess who cannot eat and is in a lot of pain?? She went back to have him smooth out the filling and check on her jaw pain and he told her it was her fault she was in pain. He said she wasn't brushing. She is meticulous about her oral care, so it is time she left and went to another office. Keep out of the Puyallup office. Save your mouth the pain.
On a side note, Dr. Yu - Orthodontist - at Puyallup is amazing and I just adore how he has taken care of our 2 daughters. Ortho is separate and not to be confused for the terrible care at the dental portion.

Worst Experience Ever
Willamette Dental is Awful. I have never been treated so poorly all the way from the scheduling office to local office. The staff, both dentist, asst and receptionist to office managers. The patient is just a number to them, they don't care about you. The dentist scared my 11 yr old son so bad he was petrified to go in for an extraction. He was nervous so the dr belittled him showing no compassion or professionalism. He ended up giving him 2 shots saying "well now you will have to be numb for 5 hrs". Then my husband decided to leave and the dr said good because we needed to go see an oral surgeon. Don't ever use Willamette Dental. They are awful!!

First off... Like people have said before. You get what you pay for! If you go to the grocery store and buy store brand macaroni and cheese it is going to taste horrendous. So before you complain so much about shotty service think about the fact that YOU chose to go somewhere 'CHEAP.' For the people stating that it takes 10 days for an urgent appointment.. funny considering Willamette Dental as numerous ER centers that get you in within a 24-48 time period. If you are UNWILLING to travel to a location that has this CONVENIENCE then you are choosing to wait. As far as the co-pays go paying $250 for a crown is way better than paying $1100 out of pocket. A lot of insurance plans may have a $50 emergency copay but that goes with a majority of insurance plans nowadays. Typically in any ER center there is a wait. Thats customary. No one wants to MAKE people wait. But the clinicians are doing what they can for a patient to get them out of pain. This takes time. Better that way then being sent home with antibiotics and pain meds and being told to reappoint later. Then you would have wasted $50 for an ER visit. I also love the people blaming their 'bombed out' mouths on the fact that they get one cleaning a year. I have been a patient with WDG since 2006 and they schedule patients cleanings based on their health needs. If people have a lot of plaque build up they can be appointed anywhere between every 3-6 months. The fact that people blame WDG for the fact they only get one cleanings and that is why they have cavities is a crack up. You have cavities from improper care of your teeth. In rare instances people have bad health care from other issues and those are treated according to that. Brush your teeth and watch the foods and acids you put into your mouth. The first part of a persons mouth care starts with THEM!! More cleanings than needed actually can remove enamel from your teeth which can cause you more issues. The only way to provide superior care is by the provider and patient working as a team. If people don't take care of their mouths then of course lots of work will need to be done. There are numerous companies that are the ones that are choosing to utilize Willamette Dental as their provider. Maybe your first complaint should be with them and their decisions. And watch a private dental office... they have been known to tell people they need lots of major work cause that more out of your pocket cost...and straight into theirs!

My experience is in Federal Way, WA, but it is the same here as in OR. I could simply echo all the comments before me: poor service, extremely poor workmanship, zero accountability. I too had a crown fall off less than a week after they put in on and they tried to charge me to fix their mistake. They would not budge. This is the most unprofessional group of dentists ever. The conflict of interest is obvious. I refer to them as "the 5th dentist", as in 4 out of 5 dentists recommend...
Friends don't let friends go to Willamette Dental!

Willamette Dental is a nightmare never take your child there. We recently became one of the many uninsured americans. Unfortunately my only option was to put my daughter on Oregon Health Plan. Willamette Dental was not a choice but our only option. She had a great dentist before at Great Grins. She went for a checkup and cleaning, and was told she had two small cavities. After waiting several months we went back and only one was filled. The Dentist was about as personable as a rock. She had never had pain in that tooth until the day he filled it. From that very day she complained of pain, when I contacted the dentist they said the pain was probably from the tooth left to fill. But she insisted it was the tooth he filled. Several months later she was too afraid to go back. I took her to my dentist who let me make payments to have the other cavity filled, but the pain persisted. This last week the pain which started as sensitivity turned to extreme pain. I was forced to make an emergency appointment with Willamette and the dentist first saw no problem. No cavity in the x-ray. But she could see my daughter was in extreme pain and did further testing on the tooth. The tests proved the tooth was dead and infected. The very tooth that never bothered her before going to Willamette now has to have a root canal and crown. It is her front top tooth and will darken over time.I think the reason they are so overbooked is because they do Oregon Health plan. They are paid by the state to do the minimum required.I would have made payments to a good dentist for the rest of my life then go there. And sadly tonight she is still in pain after having the bacteria cleaned out of the tooth and sent home with antibiotics and pain meds. She is 11 and has to wait until Aug. 11 to have the procedure finished. I hate this place.

I am so thrilled with my care at the Roseburg office. From the front desk staff to my dentist and and his dental assistant. My dentist also diagnosed Shogrins syndrom because he cares about everything to do with your mouth. He is kind, gental and very knowedgeable. The only reason for 4 stars is the length of time between appointments.

Dont go to Willamette. As well as only providing exam and cleanings once a year, their implant and crown work is very poor. I had an implant installed, In which I have had no problems with. But the Crown never did look right (front #8) and it failed after about 3 years. I did nothing to cause this problem. When I engaged them about this, they told me that they think 2 years is enough time for a crown to last. Why then would I have got an implant and crown in the first place? Also, the abutment screw is stripped out so I have to now go to a prostidontist to have the old crown and screw removed. The Prostidontist at least has told me that the fit, color and shape was terrible and that the construction type for that part of my mouth was completely wrong. Stay away from them, they are high volume fast food dentistry and you get what you pay for.

My experience with Willamette Dental unfortunately corroborates the poor reviews. If all you're getting are cleanings, then they're fine, even though appointments literally have to be made 4-6 months in advance.

But, as I recently discovered, if you need any type of serious work done, you're in trouble. I recently had what I think is an abscess. I say I think, because at no point during my treatment did my dentist explain to me what was going on or what treatment options were. Although I was in severe pain, it took 1 week to get an urgent appointment.

I was literally in and out in 10 minutes. The assistant was rude and seemed bothered by my presence, and the dentist was obviously overworked and treating 4 people at once. The dentist drilled out my pulp (I assumed), and mumbled something about needing a root canal in the very near future. I got my antibiotics and pain killers and was rushed out the door. I was promised a call from my main dentist right away to set up the follow up treatment.

What followed was an almost surreal bureaucratic nightmare. Of course nobody contacted me, and I was still a)with a temporary filling and b)in a good deal of pain. I then attempted to get in touch with someone-anyone-at Willamette to discuss my follow-up treatment. Every time I called, the doctor was out, my file was missing or I was promised a call back "right away." After a month of waiting, I decided to go to another dentist, who right away performed a much needed root canal and was shocked at the behavior of W.D.

I don't know if they are a)completely disorganized and don't care or b)were hoping I'd go away and not make them perform an expensive procedure, but I informed my employer of W.D's behavior and lo and behold, the next day someone contacted me. Too little, too late- I will never go back.

Willamette is the worst dental group I'ver ever encountered in my 42 years.

Does anyone see a conflict of interest when Willamette is your insurer and your dentist? When they hold both roles they can not possibly have your best interest in oral health. The less treatment provided the more money goes to their profit line.

The only reason I went to Willamette instead of other insurer because I needed adult braces that other options would not cover and I also thought the $15 co-pay was such a deal. Such a deal then, I though, is now a costly catch-up for all their minimum services and incompetency.

Let me share a little bit of my nightmare. I joined Willamette in 1998 and begin my braces with porcelin, moved onto invisalign (because I was told my porcelin would be off before my wedding and that did not happen), invisalign wasn't doing the job and so was put back to metal brackets which finally came off in late 2009, at which point I was still not completely happy but was so fustrated with the incompetent Orthodontist(s) and their treatments I decided to cut my loss and move on. I began with one Ortho and then handed over to another to finish with. I complained to the Office Manager, she seemed smypathetic and wanting to resolve things but when you work with a pool of incompetent orhto, how can you do any better?

Also, the only major work I've ever have had done outside of the ortho treatment was a root canal on one of my back tooth. I was told by my dentist at Willamette that a root canal would be done and then a crown would be place over it. This was done in 2008. All other annual cleanings I was always told "everything looks good". I left Willamette in 2009 when I left my job and got coverage under my husband's plan.

In 2010 I found a new dentist and realized the "good deal with Willamette" was all but a mirage. The new dentist found so many big cracks in my back molars resulting from old metal fillings in which Willamette should have found and treat by putting crowns on them. Also, I was told the one tooth that had a root canal should have had a crown place over the root canal to protect it. FYI, Williamette told me they would do the root canal and a crown on that tooth at the time of treatment. They did the root canal but failed to do the crown. So now my current dentist is treating me for all the crowns/fillings that Willamette should have detected and treated but failed to do so. They funny thing is when they asked me who was previous dentist and as soon as I said Willamette, they have this epression on their face as if "Ah, now I understand", the "minimum service dental". Something interesting you may want to know is that I was told by a former Williamette employee that some of their dentists were "reprimanded" for over treatment of patients, basically for doing too many procedures.

Now the scary part, my current dental bill, my out of pocket, for all the treatments that Williamette failed to provide due to their incompetent dentists and their policy of "minimum treatment", is $5,500 and counting. And this amount already included my dental insurance annual coverage. This is the amount racked up so far just for the first 3 months of 2010. BTW, I was also suggested to do another Ortho treatment by my current dentist because one side of my back upper and lower molars do not even bite down right, again this is due to the incompetent of Willamette group.

Why I stayed so long with Willamette? When I joined and bagan the ortho treatment, I was not happy for most part of the treatment, but once I've vested with Willamette I didn't want to leave and re-invest again else where and therefore stuck with Williamette for 10 years.

My advise, walk away from Williamette. When they are the insurer and the dentist, your best interest does not lay with them. What may seem like a good deal now will probably cost you dearly later.

Broke a partial yesterday, called for an appointment, operator said it might cost more than my $15 copay, had her check so there would be no supprises, she said my insurance covers the repair and it would only cost the copay.
Went to my appointment this morning, was told it would cost $185 for repair. I declined, asked for my $15 back because nothing was done and was refused.
Less than 6 months ago I had a complete upper denture made for the cost of the $15 copay. Same policy etc.???
Have had Willamette Dental off and on for about 10 years now and have had nothing but problems about 90% of the time.
Nobody ever knows what's going on.
Poor service is what I have come to expect.
Would love to get Keizer back.

Long wait, minimal service... If I could give NO stars I'd give none. I and my family of five were with them two long years. They only clean your teeth once a year. First when you join they have to see you for an initial visit. Just to talk and waste your time. Then you make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned. Then an appointment to get any dental work needed. By them time your into this takes a year.
Your appointment is usually at least 6 months away hard to remember with a family of five. If you miss your appointment then you have at least another 3 month wait.
When you finally get into the office your in the waiting room forever until they call your name. It's like DMV. And line after line wait after wait.
My son had a cavity and they did not fix it right the first time. I switched out of Willamette dental. My son had to get his teeth re-done. I had to get deep cleaning because once a year was not enough to keep my mouth at it's best.
Willamette Dental left a bad taste in my mouth for every possible thing. Glad I left. Avoid them if you can.
I'd give them an F- - - -

I went to Willamette Dental and I had 6 fillings and sealants put on. It was the worst service that i have ever had. I had to wait months and months for an appointment. Then when I got there I felt like they had no idea what they were doing. So my experience was so bad that i didn't go back to the dentist for 4 years. I switched to a different dentist and he said all 6 of the filling and seals that Willamette had put on have to come off because they didn't clean the plaque before sealing my teeth so now all the plaque is eating away making holes in my teeth!! Thanks Williamette. Now i have to pay again to have them redone! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Elle at the N.W. Portland office in Goose Hollow is the best! She was very helpful and accomodating!, I have serious back problems and she went to get towels to put under my legs and back support...Not sure about Willamette Dental, but they are LUCKY to have Elle as part of their staff. Elle gets all five stars on this post.

Willamette Dental Group is great! I'm surprised there are so many poor reviews of Willamette on here. The downtown location was a little difficult to find on such a dark and stormy morning, but they were more then willing to work around my tardiness. Elle my hygienist was thorough and able to answer any question and Dr. Hazard was of course knowledgeable and enjoyable to speak with. I would definitely recommend Willamette

Takes a very long time to see a dentist. First impression when talked to staff: "Out to rip people off their money". Hardly any or wrong information given about billing or payment options. Staff is afraid to give out information. Dentist very rough. NOT WORTH A SINGLE STAR.

I can't even submit a complaint on their website! It won't take the form--states I must fill in the subject box that doesn't exist!
Milwaukie staff arrogant, rude, charged copay to tell me they couldn't do the filling because they couldn't reach it (on my wisdom tooth)!
Beaverton-Scholls was the nicest office I went to--actually had a nice scheduler and kind sympathetic hygienist, although the dentist was extremely rude and arrogant to me and her assistant!

There is not enough room on my computer to tell how awful Willamette Dental is. If you prefer being talked down to, lied to, and told you've been rescheduled without your knowledge when you've just traveled a half hour in a snow storm with 5 children including a 1month old, ENJOY WILLAMETTE DENTAL!

Highly capable and caring staff all around. I no longer fear going to the dentist. And in this economy, it is nice to finally have some affordable health insurance.

Willamette Dental has been nothing but a headache. I don't think they even warrant one star. That implies that there has been any effort made on their behalf, I certainly don't believe that to be the case.
The excessive wait times for appointments, the rude and uncaring Office Manager in the Puyallup office, the repeated visits for fillings that fall out. I've had it and enough is enough. They take the premiums that are paid and keep adding subscribers without increasing care professionals.
The inability to reach the person you need to speak with directly is so irritating. I'm beginning to think that the 800 line is set up specifically as an exercise in frustration. That one will get so exasperated, they'll eventually you'll give up trying anymore. I have tried to speak to the Regional Manager, but keep getting put off by the innumerable gate keepers in their call center. You can't even leave a voice mail without it being dictated to the call center personnel. Like I really think the message is going to get passed on as I left it. It will probably be paraphrased to look more like
'So and So called and their mad. They want you to call back.'
Unfortunately, I don't have an option again until next fall. I will definitely be ending this farcical experience at that time.

I am writing this review on my cell phone as I am sitting in the lobby, but don't worry as I will have plenty of time to finish it.

The average wait time that I have experienced here is about 45 minutes. Somehow they are always "running late," even at 9:00 am. That's okay though, because it let's you enjoy the rude front desk staff.

After months of trying to get a cleaning appointment (they only do a schedule 3 months out, and it's always full) I finally was warmly greeted by an very aggressive scalpel.

After seeing the doctor and/or hygenist, remember their names, because you will soon have to return to get them to fix something... Oh and you'll have to pay again.

Case in point: I had tooth pain (probably from not getting regular cleanings due to the fact that they don't have enough openings to service everyone) and went in on a Tuesday morning. I told the dentist where the pain was, he looked at the x-rays and said I had a cavity. He drilled (and then remembered that he should have numbed me up) and put a filling in. The whole process took two hours. After the medicine wore off, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that my pain was still there. I returned to the office the next day to find out that I had to pay again, even though they had not fixed the problem that I originally paid for. I then sat around for 90 minutes, at which point the dentist told me that I should wait a week or two to see if it "gets better."

Run, don't walk from Willamette Dental, unless of course you enjoy rude service, incompetent dentists, and horrible customer service.

My children and their father have dental through Willamette as the rates were too low to pass up.. In the last year, it has proven to be the wrong decision.. We took my 3 year old who had 2 cavities in to the dentist in June.. They scheduled her fillings for October. I didnt make the appointment as my grandmother was in the ICU at OHSU (good hospital btw) for a blood clot in her brain.. they had no compassion- they wouldnt budge on the fee and now will not rebook my daughter (because I have a balance I cannot currently pay) even though her cavity has gotten visibly worse and causes her pain on a daily basis (all of which I told to the receptionist). I would much rather pay full price to go to my preferred, nicer and more compassionate dentist- Wendel Dental.... Willamette could definately learn some things from them....Avoid Willamette Dental at any cost!!

Willamette Dental is horrible. My son's filling fell out after less than a year. My daughter had the worst ortho care I've ever heard of.Dr. Nordstrom is either too ditzy to notice or just doesn't care about her patients.

It is impossible to get timely appointments. If you act pissy about it they just refuse to help you. Seriously, 'hold please,' and then when they come back they tell you that the appointment that was 3 weeks out is now booked (by someone who doesn't care that they are being treated like crap, no doubt) and the next available time is two months away.

Regional Manager Tracy Naylor has not returned my call after nearly three weeks. You cannot leave her a voice mail or email and she doesn't have a direct line. To leave a message you go through two gate-keepers and dictate a message that is hand-written and left on her desk. WTH?

If you are unhappy with the regional manager you have to call 'Patient Relations.' Mind you, it is the same toll-free number and numerous gate-keepers and no one has a real name or takes any responsibility for anything.

They need to have 'we don't give a damn' as their tag line.

I had a great experience with Willamette dental on Weidler. I went in for a crown and saw a Dr Evan. His injection was very gentle. He was very professional and kind. His assistant Susan was very sweet and comforting to me. I had my teeth cleaned at this office by a male hygienist, he was very thorough and gentle when he cleaned my teeth...first ever painless cleaning. I would highly recomend the Weidler office at Willamette. Thank you guys, you are great!

I broke a tooth. I HAD to be there, or I would have walked out. On the Intake form, one question asked is, "Are you nervous about seeing the dentist?" I answered a big YES. After my X Ray, I was seated and left for more than 30 minutes to listen to (and, if I craned my neck, watch) other patients having their teeth drilled, as well as explanations about extractions and bone taking six weeks to heal. Why did they even ask me whether I was nervous if they weren't prepared to care? Staff members came and went without saying a single word to me. When finally a technician came to help me, I burst into tears and confided my concerns, to which she replied, "I'm sorry you're upset, do you need to reschedule?" As if she had not heard a word I said. Nobody informed the dentist of my worries and she thought my tears were due to pain. At one point she asked me if anything had changed in my medical history, and I answered, since WHEN? An hour ago when I filled out the form? Did ANYONE read my chart?
I am never going back to that office. And, judging by the other reviews I have read, the other offices aren't any better. If I can change insurance, I will do so immediately.

I am frustrated that it takes me three months to get a cavity filled and three more months to get the root canal that was much needed. Five more months to get the crown completed - it is almost a scam at how understaffed they are and how long it takes to get the treatment which is needed. At that point the initial problem has became a bigger one.

She's my second doctor at Willamette Dental, but the worst doctor I've ever met. I'm 42, and a docor myself, so I know many docs.
I guess Willamette Dental tests them before taking them on board, and if they get a 60% or more, they are not hired...

This group is over subscribed, and does not have enough dentists to handle their volume. Privately, you can have a root canal, and crown done in a week or so. Not at Willamette. Root canal in December, Imprint and Prep in March, Crown in April. Give me a break! They are so backloged when my wife broke her tooth in January, they said they could get her in in May!! I am just going to pay some dentist privately to do the work. Forget Willamette. The health risk for waiting in not worth it.

Don't go there - By the way, this is for the tualatin office.

Dr. Hazard at the downtown Portland office is wonderful. I'd never seen a female dentist before and I was surprised they existed! She takes a conservative approach to dental hygiene and even recommended their pediatric dentist in Beaverton for when I start taking my 2 year old to the dentist!

Willamette Dental is the least expensive option available in my health care packages. The trade off is incredibly long waits for appointments. However, the staff have always been friendly, courteous and helpful. The dentist I've worked with has always taken the time to explain what was needed. She even showed me the bacteria in my mouth so I would be encouraged to use mouthwash more often!

When I first came to Willamette Dental Group, I was not satisfied with the treatment plan suggested by my previous dentist. At Willamette Dental Group, Dr. Katherine Gordon listened to me. She worked with me to determine the best treatment rather than pulling out the drill right away. The receptionist is always very kind as well.
