The Brattle Theater is a movie theater that constantly has new and original programming. A couple years ago, I attended a reading by Chuck Palahniuk at the Brattle. He did a reading and then the theater showed Fight Club on the big screen. It was by far the coolest book reading I've ever been to. The Brattle generally only offers one movie a day, but the that one movie can range from being a classic like Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast to the animated Phantom Tollbooth from the 80s. Check the calendar on the website to see what's coming up!

Maybe I am getting old,,,,,,but this a fun, but weird theater. My hubby and I saw a movie there...I think it was a Japanese movie, of Godzilla.....it had subtitles. I thought it was fun how the director of the theater.......a young college kid.......came out and gave a brief history of the theater, thanked us for coming and gave a preview of the movie. The audience had mostly college kids.........but they were all great. Everyone felt free to laugh at the mis-translations of some of the words to English. An old theater.......but clean and very friendly young staff..

This is a theater on Brattle Street a short walk from Harvard University. I went here to see The Animation Show a couple of years ago.

Their schedule is a lot of fun and often encompasses a variety of types of shows. If nothing else, grab a schedule if you ever pass by! I guarantee you'll see something you'll like.

Brattle is a non-profit, independent cimena in Cambridge. I can count on them for a great variety of movies such as classic films and international films. The theater is non-profit and run by the Brattle Film Foundation. I enjoy the student discount. There is also a senior citizen discount. Also, you can buy tickets for shows online, which is always convenient.

I love this theater because they typically show great old or classic movies; for example the begining of July was dedicated to James Dean flicks, or right now they are showing old Hitchcock classics. They also have screening of indy movies. I like it when theater try to do something different than all the other; and, next weekend they are showing Labrinyth which is one of my favorites. Tickets are 7.50 if you're a member, or a student and 9 dollars regular admission.

Brilliant place - they run really good features, following different themes, and play films here that you cannot find on the screen anywhere else. There are also good speakers every once in awhile - directors, actors, etc. The Brattle is committed to bringing quality to the Boston film scene. It's a comfortable, smallish theater wtih balcony seating.

The Brattle is just too cool for words. Never playing new movies, the Brattle dedicates itself to playing old cult favorites. Though I don't go every week, I enjoy the old-theatre, feel, the informality, and the anything goes concept. Its a blast to see a David Lynch movie in the company of people who have no idea whats going on and people who think they know whats going on but don't. They often play kid-friendly movies (Indiana Jones) and classics you couldn't see on the big screen anywhere else (The Hitchcock series).

Well-programmed art and revival movie house. Excellent variety. Well-run and well-organized, with schedules available in advance. They do a superb job of mixing commercial, artadn indie fare -domestic and foreign- , of all periods.

PROS: Harvard Square location, variety
CONS: on the small side, so it sells out

The Brattle Theater is a great independent Theater. It is always showing something no other theater is showing. From Cowboy revivals to movies from the 1930s to hosting the Asian Cinevisions Film Festival. It is located in Harvard Square, but a little difficult to find if you don't know exactly where it is. Movies here are a reasonable price however.
