If it can be had in New England, without shipping that is, it'll be in Cardullo's. It's one of the only places in the entire US that carries Pavlova eggs. However, the prices are very high and the amount of room is fairly small. That means that most items exist in only very small amounts and may sell out if there's a coinciding holiday.

This is the place to come in Harvard Square if you're looking for something from abroad. The best way to access the store is by foot since it's in the heart of Harvard Square across the street from Harvard Yard. The staff is friendly and will help you pick out the perfect bottle of wine.

PROS: Great wine selection
CONS: no parking

This is definitely one of the best stores ever. It has an amazing selection of high quality food products from all over the world, including foie gras, chocolates, preserves, cheeses, breads, cookies, wines, teas, and more! This is VERY expense, but definitely worth it. Also has a quality sandwich counter.

Oh yeah sure this place as got tons of imported chocolates from every country and other delicacies as well...But the only real reason to visit is that they carry those delicious little marzipan pigs. You might also try some marzipan cats, trucks, dinosaurs, or pizza. Marzipan in every shape.

yum

PROS: wide selection of imported sweets
CONS: expensive

I lived in France for a while and all the little things I miss I can only find here. They have everything. They even have a bottle of Krug Clos du Mesnil in the locked fridge (not that I could ever afford it). Their sandwiches are very good and there are something like 40 different ones. The guy making them always says he's missing some ingredient but it's usually there. Ask twice. I go there almost everyday for lunch. You can even sit outside at one of the little tables and watch the people in Harvard Square and pretend you're in Europe.

This is a truly heaven-sent place. I know of nothing like it around Cambridge. As soon as you walk into the store, your nose is filled with delicious aromas of all sorts and your eyes take in, with wonder, the array of breads, cheeses, meats, chocolates, preserves, pastries, wines, pates, and much more. The people are very friendly and glad to help you dig up whatever you are drooling over. The selection of gourmet foods is phenomenal and not to be found anywhere else nearby. THough it is rather expensive, the treat is worth it.
