After giving birth to twins they required an extended amount of time in the NICU. I kept getting bills from ConsulMed saying that I owed thousands of dollars because my insurance wouldn't pay. As I looked over my bill there was a lot of duplicate claims. There were also billing for multiple doctors. I called my insurance company and they told me they had paid the bill in full but them themselves keep getting billed for services they have already paid for. I contacted ConsulMed with the information my insurance company provided and told them that if they send me one more bill I was going to have to turn them into the insurance companies fraud division. Needless to say he back peddled his story and told me I shouldn't see any more bills. I have turned this company into the Better Business Bureau and advise anybody who receives a bill from this company to thoroughly look it over and talk to your insurance company to make sure they are not trying to get money out of you that your insurance company already paid.

I was in an auto accident in April 2010. My attorney suggested I see his recommended physician. This physician uses Consulmed to handle his billing. Consulmed billed my auto insurance $770 for a one-hour office visit. They billed this under a CPT code and listed it as a 'consultation'.

My insurance reviewed the bill, requested progress notes and determined, based upon the notes that my time with this physician was only an office visit and reduced what they would pay to $378. I was informed by my auto-insurance that I was NOT responsible to pay the balance. I also received the denial an explanation as well as a denial for the remaining balance from my auto insurance. I then forwarded that to Consulmed. I followed up with a phone call stating that they had over charged based upon progress/chart notes. My auto insurance has given Consulmed the option to appeal the insurance's decision. However, Consulmed has refused to file an appeal.

Consulmed sent me a bill this week that stated that I was responsible for the balance + interest of $400+ because my PIP was exhausted. After consulting with my auto insurance I still have over $2200+ left on my PIP. When I discussed this with Consulmed the conversation became heated. I demanded a copy of the insurance statement proving my PIP was exhausted. The customer service rep couldn't do so, and admitted that they had not received anything about my PIP from my insurance.

I plan to pursue this further with the physician, Utah state insurance commissioner as well as the Better Business Bureau. If anyone has any other agencies that Consulmed can be reported to, please post it here so others can file complaints as well.

We have been dealing with this agency on medical billing issues because a lot of the local doctors in Tooele use them. I am not impressed. They always have problems billing our insurance and when you call to talk to them the customer service is rude! I do not recommend them and I am letting the doctors that I go to know how they treat the customers so they will switch companies. I have had several bad experiences with them.
