Moochie's Meatballs and More

After reading all these reviews I gotta laugh. Moochies cheesesteak is about as good as your average cheesesteak in Philly. Nothing worth driving for but would do if it was right around the corner.

One reviewer mentions Pats, Jenos and Tony Lucs steaks in Philly. He must be a Jersey boy because no one from Philly goes to these tourist traps unless its is 1 am after drinking all night and the respectable places have already closed. The best steaks come out of the mom and pop places found in the neighborhoods.
Someone else mentioned Downtown or DP steaks being good. They are ok but the meat is more like roast beef and doesnt match what you get in Philly.

Is Moochies cheesesteak worth trying? Yes.

Are they the best in Utah? I dont know, so far they are the best I have found but I have only been here 4 months.

Bottom line. You cant go by these reviews considering that most of them come from people who think Papa Johns pizza is great and do I need to mention the fact that they dip pizza in ranch dressing?

Disappointing! My husband picked up a couple of Philly steak sandwiches for dinner tonight, since he'd heard such great reviews about them. I don't know if they were running low on meat or what, but my "Philly steak" sandwich was filled with chunks of really flavorless ground meat & mushy peppers, with a few pieces of bland "steak" on top. Even with peppers & onions, there was absolutely no flavor. I certainly won't be returning to Moochies anytime soon.
For anyone in Utah who wants a really awesome Philly, I would suggest going to the Phillidelphia Sub Shop in Clearfield. They are much better - just keep in mind that if you don't like heat, ask them to leave off the hot peppers. With or without them, Philly's steak sandwiches are the best.

I was sort of excited when my boss offered to take me to what has been billed as the "best philly" in Utah. However, I was so disappointed after my first bite. The meat was so watered down and oily - not a real good combination if your looking for flavor. This is simply what happens when you attempt to pre-cook the meat and try to keep it moist. Throwing water and oil on it over time sucks the flavor out of the meat. My philly was so flavorless that I can't believe I paid over $10.00 for my philly. I felt robbed and disappointed. I also can't believe that people keep coming back for the food...it must be for the hype. There are other options out there for those who want something good without having the hype overshadow the taste. I would recommend a small place in northern Utah that rivals anything out there today. A lot of places have been mentioned in previous reviews but I would like to add another one to the list of my favorites. Try "The Cheesesteak deli" in Sunset. Very clean, friendly, and great steak full of flavor just like a cheesesteak should be. You will not leave disappointed!!

Wow, What a disappointment!
Saw this on DDD, Guy, you need to go get a real Philly Steak Sandwich. Try Jim's,Pat's Geno's Or Tony Luc's.

In Philly there is a Sandwich shop on every other corner one in twenty are worth going to the rest are like Moochies.

The place was totally unorganized and the staff was confused to say the least. Yes, they were busy but if they came from Philly they would know how to handle this and have their shop set up for this. There was not enough seating to accommodate the customers forcing me to eat this in my car which was not a good idea.. They have a condiment buffet that was gross and people were all reaching over each others food to get to the napkins and ketchup.

The meat itself was good but there was too too much Oil, (most don't use oil in Philly)the onions were burnt and the roll was dense but not absorbent as the classic Amoroso's Roll used for most Philly Cheese Steaks. I would not give this place a second try. You can do as good if not better in your own kitchen.

I did not try the meatballs or any other dishes so I base this review on The Steak Sandwich only.

Sorry guys and gals but The Dowtown Philly has the best chessesteaks in Utah hands down those that are from back east all know that a real cheesesteak is made with steak NOT beef and that is all ya get at moochies and italian place, not so at The "DP" or Downtown Philly! These guys make it good and make it right and not to mention the only ones that will Whiz on your steak ha ha (cheezewhiz that is) and there simply isn't a better cheesesteak in Utah. Go try it they are on 106th and Redwood. I love you guys!!

I saw this place on DDD on the food network, so I thought I'd give it a try. I waited a few days after the show to avoid any crowds it caused. I got a meatball and a 6" inch cheesesteak. There was only a few people in there and it still took a while to get my food. The meatball was very good but the cheesesteak was certainly not the best I've had in the west as it is billed to be. It may have been that I was already a little miffed at the idea of them telling me I had to pay more for Provolone, so I settled for the crappy yellow american they use. I normally like american, but theirs was like the western family low fat cheese slices I was fed as a poor child, not what I expected on an "authentic" cheesesteak. Overall it wasnt a terrible experience, but it also wasnt one I would repeat very often. I am a Cheesesteak lover (being from King of Prussia, PA, just out side of Philly) so I have had one everywhere in Utah. Here are the best places to go:
1: The Downtown Philly Cheesesteaks in South Jordan, They serve the best, most authentic cheesesteaks and are the only ones who serve Whiz and things like birch beer. Its the real deal.
2:The Philadelphia Sub Shop in Clearfield.
The steaks are greasy but gooood. The downside is that the prices are a little absurd, and they charged me 2 extra dollars to use a credit card!!
3:Atlantic Pizza in Park City: They focus on pizza but serve a mean steak on buns I think they ship in from philly (amoroso?) the downside is a twelve dollar footlong!
4: Moochies see above
5: The Italian Place in Orem: they are not nearly as good as they used to be, but not as bad as a subway cheesesteak
6:fillet of Phillies in Midvale on state street:good but salty, should probably be above the italian place.
7:East Coast Subs also in midvale on state street: I would rank them higher, cause its a good steak, but everytime I get one its so small I am starving afterwards.

Moochie's is the kind of place you'd go to if only you knew about it! Yes it's a little hole in the wall, but the food is all handmade on site and the prices are cheap cheap cheap. It's really a refreshing change from all the mass produced chain store food. Worth finding!

Moochie's is a fun place in that they serve a variety of great food in a little hole in the side of Circle Pottery. It's like a discovery... a place where you can't help but think, "has anyone even found this place besides me?!" But be forewarned of this modest little hovel: the food will knock your socks off (take it to go---there's no seating unless you can find a spot outside at one of the very few tiny tables). The lasagne, the meatballs and the Philly cheesesteak are all a hair from being world class. The cheesesteak is as authentic as you can get in Utah or the west. The lasagne, though very small in portion, is robust and something your friend's Italian mother use to make. The meatball sandwich is a freaking wonder! There are many other dishes to choose from--salads, eggplant parmesan, hot and cold sandwiches like the tuna grinder and roast beef & provolone... but for a true treat go for the cheesesteak or meatball sandwich if you want to experience the very best that Moochie's has to offer.

PROS: cheesesteak, meatballs and lasagne
CONS: could use more room but maybe that's part of the charm?
