We stayed for a weekend at one of their properties and the home was very clean and fit for the most part the listed description. However the rental company clearly mismanaged the cabin #59 Big Tehama. We had a snow storm and they assured us they would plow that night. The storm started at 2 in the afternoon on Saturday and they did not show up until 10:00 on Sunday. We had to call repeatedly as our vehicles were completely snowed in. Finally a man showed up with a shovel. No plow, and three feet of snow. You are not allowed to park on the street so there was no safe place that we could move the cars to. It was a horrible situation being snowed in to a home without a professional snow plow as was promised by the management. Big Bear was lovely but the assistant manager of this company was not.

We stayed in Cabin #32 Oct. 21-23rd for our 20th wedding anniversary: http://www.bigbeargetaway.com/ap_index.html Our assistant had called ahead to prepay the balance of the $600 total and to ask the management company to ensure that everything was perfect because it was a very special occasion. They assured us that it would be.

Once we got to the cabin, we unpacked and began exploring. We found that the "entertainment" items listed (pool table, darts, spa, etc.) were all broken and had missing parts. When we called the management company on Friday night, they said they'd get back to us within 24 hours.

They called at noon on Saturday when we were at a spa (that they recommended) for our appointments and suggested that when we were done that we spend the next four hours returning to the cabin, packing up, cleaning up (so we would not be charged extra fees), driving back to town to check out and then check-in to another cabin, drive there, and unpack again -- or they could deduct $30/night for our stay. Since we had to check out at 11AM the next morning anyway, we chose the latter.

However, had we known that ALL of the mattresses at the cabin would be backbreakers, we might have taken the extra 4 hours of our 20th anniversary weekend getaway to switch cabins and gamble on the new cabin's beds to be comfortable and that the new cabin's spa and pool table, etc. would actually be operational.

We spent $600+ for lodging for our 20th wedding anniversary, got $60 back, and still wish we'd stayed at a resort that had comfortable beds, no extra charges ($105) for cleaning, and an actual operational spa hot tub.

We recently used this company to rent a 3 night stay at a house they represent. We were very dissatisfied, not with the house, though things were broken (sauna) and missing (ping pong table) but we had a negative experience with the people who own the company and rent the houses. I had heard (through reviews on other sites) that they charged people for things that they shouldn't have, but I didn't think it would happen to us since we left the place in excellent condition. Shame on me, I should have learned from the advice of others. Skylar Gehrke said we damaged a door frame (????) and therefore charged $25.00 extra to our bill. I've seen many similar reviews from others who felt cheated by this company who charged "extras" to their bill.The lack of integrity I felt from Skylar was so strong that I became nervous that they still had my credit card, so I promptly canceled the card for piece of mind. I do not recommend that anyone else hand over a credit card to this company . There are other companies to rent through.

We had a delightful time. Everyone in the office was very courteous and quite helpful. They suggested best restauarnts, great activities and places to go. The home we selected was wonderful, and actually better than the pictures showed. It was well stocked with all we needed. I can truly say it was one of the highlights of our stay in the states - certainly for the beauty of the location but especially for the experience we had with the home we stayed in and the people at Big Bear Getaway. We probably won't ever be back to that locale, but we'll certainly be recommending it to friends who will be traveling that way.

We had the most horrible experience. We stayed in Cabin #3, from the pictures the home looked quite large and impeccable. We arrived to a home that we were unable to get into, it took the big bear getaway people over 40 minutes to drive 5 minutes down the road to let us in. The house was dirty, the screen door was hanging off the balcony, the couch had tears all along the top, there was a horrendous spider problem, there were children's toys in random places, on top of lights, the mantel, above cabinets, the beds were not made, etc. When I called to speak with a manager they told me they were very sorry and someone would call me immediately. It has been almost a week, and still no call. This place is a dump and so is the service. The hot tub top is falling apart into the hot tub and two of my guests contracted pink eye after staying here. We didn't use the hot tub at all after, a big reason we rented this cabin. Do not stay here or rent from this company.

We selected a cabin for our two night stay in Big Bear last February, based on the pictures and information from the Big Bear Getaway website. Not knowing just how well the actual accommodations would match the pictures and description, we were happily surprised by the reality. The cabin was everything we had hoped for; in excellent condition, clean, spacious, private, and with a gorgeous view. In short, our rental lived up to the expectations set by the website. We asked for, and were allowed, additional time in the cabin beyond the standard check-in/check-out time for no extra charge. The entire stay was extremely simple, enjoyable, and without any negatives. We were told all charges up front, prior to booking, and received confirmation on our reservation via email in a timely fashion. Everything was handled politely, professionally, and accurately. We felt that the value for cost was exceptional.

After our experience last year, we were eager to go back again this year. So, this February we again booked the same cabin, for three nights. Unfortunately, disaster struck when one of our kids got a severe earache several days before we were scheduled to go, and the doctor advised us to cancel. Although we were well past the cancellation date, I called Big Bear Getaway's offices to see if anything could be done to reschedule our stay. They were exceptionally helpful, and willing to ask if we could reschedule for a later date in the month. The owner was willing, and we were able to reschedule our trip without losing any of our deposit. We arrived several weeks later, and were once again happily surprised with our cabin. After another year as a rental, our cabin was equally well-kept, and did not show the additional wear and tear. Our visit this year will definitely earn our recommendation to anyone interested in finding a quality rental in Big Bear.

This vacation rental service is pretty professional - they return your calls and stay on schedule for key transfers, deposits, etc. And they're friendly people. However, it is not completely guaranteed that the properties will be in top-notch condition. Our cabin was beautifully decorated, but it had a faulty hot water tank, which was a huge negative during our 3 day ski trip. I would use this service again, however I would be very specific in asking about the state of the place.
