A Common Ground isn't just a java joint, it's a gallery, a meeting house, and a community. Be prepared to share a table with a stranger, but be aware that there really are no strangers in Hampden.

It's memorial day and if Common Ground isn't open I'm going to cry. I'm walking there to see (even though they probably are not open), even though I have coffee in my house. That's how good they are.

All hail common ground coffee...

Located on the main level of a restored rowhouse on Hampden's ever-popular Avenue (36th Street), A Common Ground is the epitome of friendly, personalized service. From the moment you walk in and see the monthly local art exhibit, you know you've tripped through the right door. Atmosphere can best be described as that of a large family, and you've been invited over for brunch. The magic doesn't stop there, though. Owner Glen Breining serves up the best darn cup of joe from local distributor Key Coffee that you could dream up, as well as tantalizing treats ranging from fresh baked pies and tarts to lunch fare with an international twist. As a regular of this fine establishment, I have come to appreciate its many charms, most notably the staff who are both friendly and attentive. All prices are very reasonable, which is why every day locals line up for their morning fix, and linger in the air-conditioned dining areas (or out on the garden porch) throughout the day. This is one of Baltimore's true gems, and should not be missed!

PROS: Everything.
CONS: Sorry, nothing here.
