Delicious flavors, lots of variety, very friendly staff, patient staff, large serving sizes. J.P. Licks has a wide variety of flavors, including lactose-free raspberry ice cream. Serving sizes are large. They actually weigh them to make sure you get what you asked for. Besides having a wide range of choices for flavors, they also have so many different toppings to choose from. The staff was very patient with me while I was trying to decide from my many options on what to get. Great ice cream too. Mmm.

there are many variables which can contribute to a really quality ice cream business, and to my mind JP Licks has it over other popular Boston stores on at least one count: the quality and variety of the frozen yogurt. At each one of their outlets they've got at least eight soft and eight hard frozen yogurts available each day, and they're all very tasty in their own right (like, you're not thinking you really should have just gone with ice cream). The chocolate chip cookie, with cookie crumbs and chocolate chips, and the oatmeal cookie are my favorite hard yogurts, and the oreo soft serve is pretty special.

I order a lot of ice cream there, too, and find their coffee and coffee-variants to be especially strong. If you're into this kind of thing, the coffee oreo is REALLY good, especially in a wafer cone.

i adore jp licks. though i more often go to the location on newbury st, i have been to two others- one in davis square and this one in coolidge corner. the store is laid back and hip all at the same time, with unpretentous and super sweet people who work there, and hours that accomodate younger folk- no closing at 7 pm! thank goodness for that, as they satisfy my after-work cravings of chocolaty ice cream to a T.

they did, though, just raise their prices.

JP Licks has excellent ice cream in a wide variety of flavors (wasabi anyone?) but the big draw is their delicious non-fat frozen yogurt. It tastes just like soft serve but has no fat. They also offer a few flavors each day made with Nutrasweet for a real guilt-free treat. JP Licks also makes excellent sorbets and ice cream cakes. Don't be intimidated by the huge line that go out the door on hot summer nights. The staff is efficient and orders are handled quickly. For a yummy treat with a kick, try the fabulous espresso frappe.

PROS: Nonfat, no sugar frozen yogurt and fun ice cream flavors.
CONS: Portion sizes can be uneven.
