I frequent "the Villlage," downtown Claremont, quite often and I started shopping at Amelie a few years ago. I work in the industry and I am familiar with the brands that the owner carries. This store is hands down, the best womens contemporary boutique in the area. The owner is so friendly knowlegeable about fashion that I usually end up chatting with her for at least half an hour evry time I am in the mood for retail therapy. She chooses many pieces that you can't find at the mall but stills carries J Brand, Hudson, Goldsign, Patterson and alternative. My favorite brand that she carries though is Wish. There is only one other store that I know of that carries the line as it comes all the eay from Australia. Whether I need an outfit from the office or for a night on the town, I know that I can find what I am looking for at Amelie. In the last year, I have noticed her bringing in a lot more afforable brands so I know that if I spend $100 on a dress I can find a belt for $30 to match. The girls are so friendly and go out of their way to assist me with anything I need. The sales are PHENOMENAL (seriously), and her Amelie buck program keeps me coming back weekly to check out the new arrivals. Highly reccomend!

Pros: huge selection, great prices

I have shopped here before and have never bought anything because it was all too expensive. I was trying to buy something from the sale area and the person working at the store was to busy talking on the phone and laughing to help me. I took the item up to the counter and the girl told me to hold on, she said I will be right with you! I could not "hold on" because I had to get back to work. I left after 5 min. of listening to her laugh and say " Oh my God,,No way hahahaha!" I will never shop at Amelie again.

I love this store. I stopped in during the holidays and purchased two of the Tolani scarves to give as gifts and ended up buying one for myself. They carry beautiful dresses from great designers along with a nice selection of denim. I can?t wait to go back.

I have to say, after reading some of the blatant exaggerations posted on this page, that Amelie is not only an amazing place to shop but an equally great place to work as well. I've been an employee of the store for nearly a year now and I feel that I've witnessed enough first hand to lay some of these ridiculous accusations to rest. To address some specifics, we receive compliments daily on how great our store smells on account of the candles we burn (and sell) in the store. The store is anything but "dimly lit," though if it were, that would be called ambiance! The radio is always on. Always. And yes, we may present customers with different pieces as they're trying things out in the fitting room, but in regards to "pressuring" people into buying things they don't want? Sure we can assure you how great it looks on you but we can't physically remove your credit card from your wallet and sign your name for you. If you've ever purchased something you didn't want, return it, we're sorry it didn't work out. Lastly, the most absurd thing anyone can say is that our owner is anything but the coolest, kindest, most generous woman to whom we all look to as a role model and a friend. She treats us all with nothing but respect and we're thankful her for the many opportunities she's given us as employees. Excuse MY french, but she kicks ass!! With that I just want to thank all of the awesome customers who have given Amelie all of the rave reviews it so deserves, as well as compliment them on their good taste and recognition of what a classy and fashionable boutique should be. Bravo ladies, see you in the store.

In response to the post below about reductions and what not...I have to say that this is no one's fault but yours. The salesgirls are not the owners of the store so clearly what they say is not always the final say. Maybe you should think twice before posting such a negative review about such an outstanding, customer service oriented boutique. I live in LA, and I choose to come back home to Claremont to shop at Amelie because of their down-to-earth, friendly, and laid-back demeanor. They always know what is in style, what looks good on your body, and they always make you feel comfortable. All of the sales girls are so sweet and kind and the owner is simply one of the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege of meeting!

I like to shop and love good clothes. Amelie is a fun store, but I felt cheated when I asked two sales people about a further reduction on sale items one day. They said there would be no further reductions. It was definitely a good sale, but I decided to pass on this one top. When I went back in just three days later, deciding that I wanted the top after all, that very top WAS marked down futher. I asked about this and instead of saying, "Sorry we told you something that turned out not to be true", I was told, "It's only 10%, just $6". I love boutiques and I try to support local stores, but deceptive salespeople or policies and a lack of empathy at Amelie are going to make me think twice before shopping there again. It also gives mom and pop stores a bad name and drives consumers to the big retails stores - which have a policy of refunding you the difference on an item within two weeks of a further drop in price. Remember: It Pays To Wait!! (If you're willing to lose the size you need).

This is one of the best stores in So Cal! It carries a good selection of jeans and tees but, what makes it really cool is it has a spot on selection of what is totally cool and happening. The owner has a great eye for what is trendy yet you'll be wearing it for years. I have bought several fashion forward items here that have become "classic" staples in my wardrobe. They carry a line of jewelry form VirginsSaints and Angels that is absolutuley beautiful. Citizens of Humanity jeans and James Perse Tees and always have a few eco friendly lines in their store.
Their staff is super firendly but,not particularly chatty. They' re honestthough. They made me turn around and show them my butt when I was trying on jeans! Actually told me not to buy the pair I really wanted because it made mybuttlook flat! ( they were right) Love their dress selection. Super sophisticated and easy wearing farbrics Sort of had a day to night vibe on alot of their choices.
I would highly recommend you to check out this cool boutique

This is the only place in Claremont to get a cool pair of Jeans! They have a great selection, and my Daughters save and save for The Paige Jeans. They also love Juicy, and this is the place to go to find all of it..... There is a nice selection of shoes and hand bags here also.
They are on Yale across the street from our favorite store, Three French Hens.. so you have check Amelie out too..... If you have never been there you are in for something special, and they have an amazing sale rack.

While searching for a closer place than Pasadena or Robertson Bld to buy some of my favorite designers I came across Amelie on several websites. I can't belive that just 3 miles away is this totally hip, very cool boutique that carries everything I lust for in LA. This store rocks my world

I think the owner of this store has such a great eye. From brightly colored cashmere sweaters to handsewn cotton tops, Amelie is overflowing with pretty, highly detailed women's clothing. Though I'm not such a huge fan of the schmancy loungewear, I love the more formal stuff. This would be a great place to get something for a dress-up occasion. I will be jealously eyeing the sale rack in search of a good buy.

PROS: tasteful, feminine clothing
CONS: too expensive for most windowshoppers
