Honestly what is with these people that work there??? Almost all of them never smile and are rude. That is unless your Mexican. I shop here all the time and it's always rush me through, a fake how are you and then as soon as I am checked out....it's all smiles to the Mexican customers and a friendly chat.
I know many other people that used to shop here that quit going because of the way they were treated. I am thinking I might too even though they do have great produce prices! Hello Maxi foods, wake up! We shoppers are your pay checks! I agree with the last post....something is wrong with the upper management and it should be looked into. Trickle down theory...you feel me?
Maxi foods in Riverside, CA has some of the best prices for produce for sure. Some other things are quite spendy comapred to other grocery stores. The checkers "overall" are not friendly... acting as if we shoppers are a pain in their ass! (Except for Hime and Jose they are always happy and refreshing!) Others, they rarely smile, at least the women don't. Probably because it stems from the stiff necked management, those women are like Hitler's little workers rarely smiling themselves! When you walk into the store beware because the smell of the meat is overwhelingly nasty, like it's old. However, you cannot beat some of their prices...especially the produce! If they could just change the overall moral of the mangement, then the workers...it would be a great place to shop bar none.
If you are used to Vons and Ralphs, expect a little culture shock.
Once you get past that, expect sticker shock. Yes, the prices really are that good, if you are looking for fresh meats, eggs, dairy and vegetables. I don't speak Spanish, but i've yet to have anyone be less than friendly or accommodating. There are definitely some fresh ingredients I've found there that cost an arm and a leg elsewhere. Purslane, yellow bell peppers, leeks, guava, japanese eggplant... often less than one dollar a pound, and far better than I'd find in a specialty market.
Maxi foods is TERRIBLE, we bought a rosca for the el nino celebration, the bread was so hard i called the manager and he was so rude. My fellow shoppers stay away everyone in the that market is so rude and the cashiers dont even speak well english.... I will never ever shop at that market again. I been to all of them and the worse one is the one thats on california st.....

If money is an issue for you, and high prices for groceries seem to be killing your pay check, then have we got the place for you. Maxi Foods, in Riverside, California, is by far the cheapest place to go for all your groceries, especially produce. No other grocery store can compare in pricing. As far as cleanliness, it's not the cleanest grocery store, but if you shop there you don't pay for all the overhead that you would at any other store.
PROS: Cheap pricing
CONS: Not the cleanest grocery store you'll find
