Cubano's

★★★☆☆
If the litmus test for a good Cuban restaurant is black bean soup, the family-run Cubano's would pass with flying colors.

Cubanos is located on a quiet street near downtown Silver Spring. It has a casual, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. The entrees are pretty good, and the desserts are yummy. Expect to pay $15-$20 for a dinner entree, which I thought was sort-of expensive for what they serve (i.e. $15 for ground beef in a tomato-based sauce with beans and rice).

This was my first experience at a Cuban restaurant and I'm sure it will not be the last. While the food was decent, I've never felt more unwelcome in a restaurant. Tables around us were receiving excellent service; however we waited 20 minutes or so for drinks, another 20 for appetizers and were told that they did not have any bread when the tables surrounding us clearly had bread.

Cubano's should not only cater to natives and latin americans but treat all patrons as valued customers.

Cubano's is located within walking distance of the Silver Spring metro station. I have visited it twice and have been very impressed with the food and the service each time.

The staff are very helpful and provide very informative advice and recommendations with regard to the menu. There are many unique dishes on the menu and menu equally unique side dishes to accompany them.

Cubano's has a nice outdoor seating area which is great in the summer. The restaurant is located on a pretty quiet street so there is not to much noise from passing cars. The inside of the restaurant is also very nice and is well decorated.

I would highly recommend Cubano's to anyone who might want to try Cuban cuisine. If you are unfamiliar with some of the items on the menu, the staff will lead you to a great decision.

PROS: Great food, helpful and friendly staff
CONS:

For my birthday my family went to eat at Cubaos, one of the best Cuban restaurants I have every eaten at. It is nice little resturant that is very colorfull.

I shared the daily special with my husband was a sea-food stew. I cant quite remember the exact name but they often serve it as the special on weekends.

My father-in-law was served Ropa Vieja ,this is shredded beef in a garlic tomato sauce with bell peppers. It is almost like a stew.

Desert was a wonderful flan that had a crisscross of chocolate latts on it. My husband had tres leches cake that was equally good.
Cubano's, 1201 Fidler La. (at Ramsey Ave.), Silver Spring; 301-563-4020. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Dinner for two about $65. hours: Monday through Thursday 11:30 a.m.-10:00p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m.-11:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.

Cuban restaurants in Miami ...there are lots of them. However, most are "lunchonettes" kind of places...not too appealing.
Cubano's could very well be, the missing restaurant Miami should have, but we have it right here in the Washington DC area, in the new Silver Spring.
Ambiance, food, family operated, ...ahh!!! and the smell!!!,...Cubanic aromas waving Caribeanly towars our gourmet capturing senses...(I don't usually talk this way),just try it!.
I particularly enjoy being surprised with the daily specials: Paella on weekends, garlicky Lamb chops (not gamy), terrific savory fish recipes, and a full menu of authentic Cuban cuisine.
So, just go tri it. If you like it like I do, tell afriend...we need more quality in this area like the jewel of Cubano's.

Pros: Uniqueness, Good Food, best mojitos in the E

Cons: Not big enough for la, it needs a larger bar, not good for diets.

Editorial from

One of the least represented cuisines in the metro area, Cuban food goes a long way to fitting in as a very substantial if not elegant way of eating: loads of stews, mashed veggies, rice and beans, and fried meats, all based on seafood,…
