My boyfriend and I visited the nw 23rd location for the Sunday Dinner option excited to try a new place with affordable prices.

We ordered our drinks and dinner from the waitress then waited a solid 10 min before our drinks arrived. Another 30 min passed before our salad and soup were brought out - all the while not hearing or seeing our waitress once. 45 minutes into our dinner our pasta finally arrived - not from our waitress but from a random waitress who put our food on the table and a refill of my drink (which was water with lemon) however she mistakenly gave me an iced tea. when I corrected her mistake, she brought me a glass of water. I asked for a lemon and a straw - she came back holding my straws with her bare hands and then stuck them inside my glass and walked away.

We sat and ate for a few minutes - my boyfriend asked the waitress for a glass of water (once she finally made her way over to the table behind us) 15 min later, no water. When my boyfriend asked her again she apologized and then finally got the water 5 min later.

An hour into our dinner of being ignored and treated like we were a bother to the wait staff my boyfriend and I got our food boxed up and asked for our dessert to go. We had no interest in staying at Pastini's any longer than we needed to. We paid the bill minus the tip and left.

I understand that restaurants get busy and thus the wait staff is spread thin - but asking your customer how their food is, or if they need anything should go with the territory of serving others - while expecting a tip.

I wish I could say we'd be back - but this experience has really soured our perception of Pastini's. The prices are cheap, but I'd rather pay more to actually be treated like a valid customer.

If you have an hour and a half to spare, don't want to be bothered and aren't too concerned about when your food or drink will arrive at your table - then head on down. Otherwise take your business elsewhere.

Pros: Pasta and Bread taste good

Cons: Ignored by waitress, long wait for food, not getting drinks

We were in NW Portland the other night and decided to eat at Pastini's. We were so glad we did! The pricing, portions and the taste were the best we have had in ages. The specials Pastini offers plus the wine choices are superb. We didn't even select one of their specials as we wanted to try everything! Great for the person wanting authentic Italian food, the vegetarian and the gluten free patrons! Keep up the good work!

I have to say I love this place! It's one of my favorite restaurants to eat at and was very disappointed when my husband and I started a new workout/meal plan because rich, creamy pasta wasn't on the list. So, I started to look at the other foods the restaurant provided and now I'm in love with their salads! Who would have known that by cutting back on pasta I'd find a whole new world of delicious salads that did fit my meal plan. And, I must say, it's very hard to find a healthy, flavorful salad to eat quickly on my lunch break. Thank you Pastini!

We had a great time at Pastini! We were greeted and seated right away. The food came out in a timely manner and the server came back to ensure that we had everything we needed. I had the Spinach Salad which was delicious with the Butternut Squash Ravioli dish. A green salad and classic spaghetti and meatballs were perfect too! We love coming to Pastini for the cozy and clean atmosphere, the price (most pasta dishes are about $9!) the great food and warm service. A terrific Portland restaurant.

Walked by and was drawn in by the smell... I started off with a ceasar salad-made just right-not over done w/ dressing. For my dinner I had the Lamb Sungo-I was 2nd guessing myself about this dish(not really a big lamb eater) untill I took my first bite. The lamb had lots of flavor and very tender. I was too full for dessert, but I be back again.

Normally we love Pastini's. The NW location is an easy place for our whole family to meet.
This night was a disaster!!
We went to celebrate the fact our baby sister was in town and it was her birthday as well as our nieces.
When we arrived we were told we could not be seated until 1/2 of our party arrived, this was new. Then after seating the 7 of the 12 coming, no one came and waited on us. We would have ordered appetizers and drinks as usual, but no one even asked until all but three had arrived. By that time we were all too hungry, so ordered our drinks and dinner and proceeded to wait again.
We finally received our drinks and waited for our dinner. When dinner arrived it was hot and good as usual, but my brother had to go ask twice for refills of drinks and napkins for the kids. No one came to check on us during our dinner. No one asked if the adults wanted more drinks, coffee, wine or even water during dinner.
I got up to go to the restroom and when I came back there was a couple of birthday deserts on the table, but the waitress never came and asked if my husband or I would like desert or coffee while waiting for the others.
To top it off, we ask for our bill to be in 3rds. 2 of us paid with credit cards and left our tips on the card, 1 paid with cash. The waitress brought their remaining money back to the table, which was intended to be her tip. Our 70 year old father inadvertently picked up the cash and put it in his wallet and left. The waitress came back 3 times to inform my husband and me that the other party had not left her a tip. After having to ask what happened to the cash and having the waitress belt out that she did not put an 18% gratuity on the bill and wanted to know where the rest of her money was, we were embarrassed and upset.
The fact that the service was terrible at best, that the waitress came by more times to check on her tip then she did the rest of the evening and we were thoroughly embarrassed, we will not be back to this location. This was not the first time we have had horrible service from this waitress but everyone deserves a second chance. Or so we thought. If for some reason we do HAVE to come BACK we will be sure to not have this waitress wait on us again!

My second trip to Pastini was as successful as my first visit. I had previously visited their Bridgeport location and this trip to their NW locale was just as satisfying. The menu items and attentive service exceeded my expectations. As a Portland newbie, I??m thrilled to discover an Italian restaurant that has the perfect ambience for both a family dinner, a business lunch or drinks and cocktails with friends on the weekend. Pastini definitely has combined all of these attributes into one restaurant, and the best thing about it is their multiple locations all around PDX! Our business lunch with a group of 5 started off by sampling a little bit of everything on the menu. We tried the Roasted Garlic-Artichoke Spread with Bruschetta for our appetizer, and it was 100% garlicky-Italian goodness. The food that was served was as good as if we were visiting a fine dining establishment ?? but for LESS than half the price! The portions were large, and I ended up boxing half of my delicious Linguine Pesto Pollo entre to-go, to take as leftovers for dinner. Pastini is definitely one of the best, most versatile Italian Bistros in Portland and I would highly recommend taking friends, family and out-of-town guests to enjoy the dining experience!

My husband would rather eat here than anyplace in town. It's always great, great service, hot meals, quick, and the best Gin and Tonic in town!!! And under $40 each time! Always great!

Went here w/a girlfriend for lunch the other day, we both had salads and they were great. The quality of the chicken was really good and the for the price we paid, the size of the salads were great. You definitely get your money's worth. I have also been to the location on NE Broadway for dinner, and I felt the portions could have been larger (esp if you call ahead and pick it up). This isn't the greatest Italian you've ever had but it's not bad. Kind of a "fast food" Italian spot.

Lets start off by saying I gave this place two chances. Yes, it is cheap but the quality of the food is pretty low par. It feels like you are eating in some kind of generic Starbucks meets faux-Italian place....worse than Olive Garden. They didn't offer bread until I asked and the unfriendly waitress just pointed to the menu and said "that costs extra." I got the buccatini carne pasta or whatever and it was dry and had no flavor at all not to mention it came out in like 5 minutes (pre-made and then slopped in a bowl obviously). After we got our food the waitress disappeared and never refilled out water so we had to flag down the hostess to do that. If you are on a budget i'd say go to Pizzacato instead.

What a great place. I was surprised how affordable it was despite it's location at the upscale Bridgeport Village. I was there with a large group of friends and we all ordered something different and tried eachothers food and everything was great. The best, hands down, was the seafood cannolli thing. (I think that is what is called) It was basically a manicotti noodles stuffed with halibut, scallops and crab...and strange combination but incredible!! The portions were on the larger side. The wait staff was quick, efficient and very kind.

Be prepared to wait on a weekend evening as they don't take reservations and it is quite small...and loud. Not a great place for kids as the standard seems to be like a lot of Italian restaurants to bring courses spaced apart. My only suggestion would be to increase their variety of craft beers....not all of us like wine.

I have gone there a few times for take out with my girlfriend. The value and the food has always been excellent except for their soups. The soup portions are very very very very small. Our take out order of soup didn't even fill the small container even though we got the "bowl" instead of the "cup." We were told that it's one ladle of soup for the cup, and 2 ladles for the bowl. I feel sorry for whomever gets the cup and thinks they accidently drained 2/3rds of it on the walk home. Everything else has been great so i can't fault them too much. Just realize that for the price, the soup portions are very very small. Being on 23rd though, it is pretty cheap for pretty good food. You won't be wowed by it, but for how much you're paying, it's really quite good.

My husband's family and I ( a big party of 15) went to the Pastini Pasteria downtown 9 located 911 SW Taylor at 9th Avenue last sunday (I couldn't find the restaurant downtown on citysearch so I thought I would just write the the review here.) My husbands' family is from out of state and we were all just trying to have a good time. We ordered our drinks, everyone was served after a while, except for my mother-in-law who had to remind the waitress of her drink, all the kids said that they had to remind the waitress about their refills for their soda. The waitress acted like she was so so busy, when there was actually only 2 other couples in the restaurant besides us, and other waitresses. Anyway, I am not writing a bad review about the food at this place. EVERYBODY loved their food, it was so yummy. But we were REALLY DISAPPOINTED by the service and the bald tattooed manager who worked there. He came to tell us to lower our voice, when the other two couples in the restaurant had actually already left and we we were the only ones in the restaurant. He was obnoxious and rude, and kept hanging around our table listening to our conversations. It is A REAL SHAME, because we really loved the food, but WOULD NEVER GO BACK THERE just for the people that work there. Plus, we had to wait AGES for our check, they were very incapable !!
My mother-in-law told the manager that we would never go back there because of how they treated us, and he said "that's fine". How rude and really bad customer service!! Oh and for those who go there, a party of 8 or more, BE PREPARED TO PAY 18% gratuity, yep not 12% or even 15%, but 18%!!! as if they were so special, when the service was actually horrible!!

This is the only location I have been to and I always have a great experience!! There is never too long of a wait and the servers are always very friendly! My favorite appetizer is the Bruschetta Classico. My favorite pastas are Ziti Di Campagna and Rigatoni Zuccati. I've tried all the desserts and I could never pick a favorite. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are perfect. Not too much... Not too little. This isn't the place you wanna go if you like to leave stuffed. I've introduced many of my friends to Pastini and they always love it and request to go back again.

Consistently good food and great service at a reasonable price. My family has been going there for some time and we never walk out dissapointed. This place knows what they do well and they stick to it. My favorites are the fusilli della Roma, their lasagna is heavenly and the soup is always excellent - make sure you like to combination first. Appetizers are actually appetizing and their salads are first quality.
Wait staff are exactly what you'd expect - fast, friendly, efficient. Not a single wasted motion. They seem to know how to hire winners.

My husband and I love Pastinis. We have never had a bad meal or bad service at any of the 4 locations since we started dining there years ago. I highly recommend the Tortellini Gorgonzola, Spaghetti Carbonara (without peas) & the Fettucine Alfredo. Their desserts are very simple but very good. I also love the soups, my favorite, Roasted Red Pepper Potato Gorgonzola.

I went there with some friends a few weeks ago and it was almost 100 outside and they had no airconditioning. HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT. And to top it off, our waitress only visited us once with water, so we were sweating the whole dinner! And to top it off, the portion sizes were way smaller then the ones at Bridgeport, almost kid size. So all in all, I dont reccomend this location at all.

The portions are just right, I walk away thoroughly satisfied, but not overwhelmed. I am especially pleased with the fettuccine alfredo.. it's creamy and has moisture; whereas other places focus on just the creamy part which results in something dry and clumpy. I love all their ziti dishes~!!

You don't get a salad with your meal, like other italian restraunts, but you can order one with your pasta dish and still come out cheaper than at other major chains. The staff is always friendly and it is always very clean. Usually have short waits and can serve large parties. They have authentic Italian beverages to accompany your meal.

We didn't go to this location but the new one in Tualatin. It's really nice inside plus great, comfortable atmosphere. Our appetizer was the bruschetta classico. It was really good, they give alot for cheap. Our entrees were okay portioned but the taste was just average. My stepson's kid's sized pizza was really small...and he's not a big eater and only 7, it didn't fill him. It said it's good for kids under 12. We may go back again to try one more time. But if we're not impressed with our next dishes then we won't be back. The pricing is really affordable though. Soup or salad is not included either unless you order a sandwich.

Amazing! The moment I walked into the beautiful resturant i was amazed by the warm smiles and detailed decor. The open kitchen makes for a very warm and open atmosphere. We were seated promptly at a nice booth and were served quickly, not pushy. Our food was to die for, I felt like I was sitting in a cafe in Italy! T first the food seams served in small portions, but the rich spices and selcetion of food made the dishes very filling. The final test, the check. Not to worry! Every plate was under 10 bucks! We left with our wallets and stomachs full! Very exceptional experience i will be sure to go back!

I eat at Pastini at least a few times a month. I always can change the orders on the menu, and get anything MY way. They accomodate to any of my needs, and i can always get out of there with my bank account intact. Love this place. Great location, great food... You gotta go there.

This place is awesome! Food is inexpensive and delicious. Service is not amazing, but definitely up to par. Added plus is that it's on 23rd Street--close to lots of other shops, coffee houses, etc. Try the seafood canneloni--it's my personal favorite. :)

The dishes at Pastini are yummy and the ingredients are fresh & quality....but the portion size leaves much to be desired. But in the end it's still a reasonably priced venue that is good for kids and the tiramisu is to die for!

Having eaten here on three ocassions with my boyfriend, we cannont figure out what all the fuss is about.

On our last visit our server never bothered to introduce herself, the artichoke appitizer was cold and the grilled bread flavorless and the pasta was so over cooked it was glue like. The pasta is the most serious issue as it has been consistently overcooked through all our visits. We've decided not to return for a fourth trip.

We stumbled into Pastini on accident one day, and left thinking we had found a new favorite restuarant. If your looking for a mid priced restuarant with overall good food, this is the place to go. The menu provides a long list of pastas garenteed to please everyone is the party. It's a good place during the week if your looking for something more casual and a nice stop if you want to sit and enjoy some food before going out on the weekend. Give it a try.

We've been to Pastini almost every week since it opened...it's so affordable and the pastas are awesome! We especially like the spaghetti and meatballs and the fusilli all roma. Yes, you have to wait sometimes, but that's because it's so good...no crybabies! The wine is very reasonable, too. Pastini is easy, fun, affordable and yummy...what more could we ask for?

It's amazing how some people just don't get it so they have to say such negative things about a restaurant. I love Pastini because they do great food at a great price with lots of variety and a great lively atmosphere.

menu reads well like a good Italian cookbook but execution is poor. All the right ingredients were used...but tasted canned or wrong somehow wrong.

We ordered a general sampling of salads, antipasto, sides, and pasta and nothing was properly prepared.

There are better places in NW to get Italian

Overhyped and underwhelming. Loud, long wait, bland food, boring wine list, uninspired staff. Anyone with a cable connection could make their pastas after watching just an hour of food network.

Skip it - go to Besaus instead.

Ever since it opened up in my neighborhood...I have become addicted! My friends and I go there at least once a week and can't get enough. In the beginning, it was one of those places where I'd try something new each time. But once I found the ZITI CON SALSICCIA AL FORNO...I can never resist. I'd call it a nearly perfect meal. I've taken many friends from out of town and everyone has always been pleased with their food. The restaurant ambience is nice (can get a little noisy), service can be a little iffy, but the value is worth it!!!

My Husband and I recently dined at Pastini's for dinner and fell in love with it! We had an appetizer, drinks and dinner for under $40! Our pasta dinners were anything but mediocre. It is defiantly the place to go if you want something other that the same ol', same ol' Italian food that other chains offer.

I've meant to try this restaurant since it opened, and finally did last weekend. My date and I were impressed. The Antipasto appetizer was much larger than expected, and the size didn't detract from the quality. The dinners were more moderately portioned, and my tortellini with wild mushrooms and proscetta was very satisfying. This restaurant is an excellent addition to NW 23rd, as its tasty, has good and friendly service, and is easy on the wallet.

Why go out and pay for something anyone could make at home in 5 minutes? Maybe if there were no wait it would be ok. But was it worth waiting an hour for? Not in my opinion.

My visit to this much-hyped spot was not so great. We waited 45 minutes (on a Thursday evening) for a table for two. Once seated, the service was excellent and our server very pleasant. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. The pastas (both mine and my friend's) were very bland, with nothing really special to distinguish them and sauces that were way too watery. The prices are reasonable, but overall, not truly a good value considering the food. There are many other places that, for the money, serve a much better product.

Message from Pastini Pastaria

Our Portland, Bend, and Corvallis Italian restaurants feature affordable fresh and authentic pastas. As owners, we are personally involved in every aspect of our restaurants. We know that using fresh, local ingredients makes a difference to our customers and to our community. Unlike the big, corporate chains, we handcraft each entrée to order. We begin with sizzling garlic and olive oil, add fresh, local ingredients, and finish with fragrant herbs and grated parmesan. We create all of our soups, sauces, pestos and dressings fresh every day. We hand-form our authentic meatballs. We make our own croutons. We bake the butternut squash that goes into our Rigatoni Zuccati. We roast the balsamic onions for our Spinach Salad Balsamico. We whip the creamy mascarpone that is layered into our handmade Tiramisu. And, we source fresh produce, dairy, artisan breads, coffee, and meat locally. Come in and experience the local difference! Complementing our pastas are authentic antipasti, crisp salads, rustic sandwiches, and handcrafted desserts. Our well-priced wine list includes bottles from both stellar Oregon wineries and small, family-owned vineyards in Italy. Or you can sip a Pastini Italian Cocktail or quaff a local microbrew.
