The Scene
A mainstay on the errand circuit of Pac Heights' socialites, this bi-level spa is a bucolic oasis, awash with warm tones. The street-level lobby boasts soothing, caramel-colored walls, baby blue crown moldings and rustic, pine wood shelves stocked with a bevy of beauty products. Perky employees guide customers to a small waiting area with plush sofas and a refreshment table supplied with chilled lime water, fresh fruit and Hershey's Kisses. Classical tunes and thick mattresses covered in down-feather comforters await clients in treatment rooms.

The Services
The pricey menu of services caters to the upper-crust with uber-indulgent options such as the $750 Grand Luxe diamond peel and cellulite-busting endermologie sessions. Slightly more conventional (and more affordable) services include hot stone massages, seven varieties of Brazilian waxes, coffee-grounds body scrubs and microdermabrasion--a pore-vacuuming process that removes dead cells and leaves skin hydrated and baby smooth.

The Details
Massage, endermologie, body treatments, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, makeup application, manicure/pedicure.

Key Points

  • Spa Treatments
  • Nail Specialists
  • Magic Tanning (no UV's)

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Special envelopes are available at the front desk for easy tipping, but remember to bring cash or a personal check; credit card gratuities are not accepted.
  2. Save Money - The cancellation policy is strict. Notify staff 48 hours ahead of time or expect your credit card to be charged in full.
  3. Parking - Street spaces are limited in this neighborhood. The most convenient option is the garage on Moulton Street at Webster.
  4. The Extras - The spa offers treatments just for men, like the deep-tissue sports massage and the back facial.

EXCELLENT

by Lisa Q. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,914

I have been to Spa Radiance quite a few times in the past, and I have enjoyed every single time I went. When my friends and I arrived to the Spa, we were kindly greeted and asked for our names. The lady who helped us said we were about tn minutes early, and were offerred to sit in a pool while we waited. When it was time to receive our treatements, we were given comfortable robes and escorted to the rooms. I have never had a consultation to see if I would hae an allergic reaction to a facial treatment before, which I thought was amazing. (I had only been asked if I had dry skin, fair skin, or oily skin before.) I was pleased to receive the facial, which exfoliated my skin and made it shine. The massage I received was extraordinary, and the staff was very friendly and talkative. This was the best amount of money I have ever spent at a spa before and I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Don't like them

by Vincent Sheffer

Sorry, but I don't like this company.

I called them to remove my mold in my restroom but they did absolutely nothing. I can't believe that. I gave such amount of money for nothing.

Arghhhh....

One of best massages in San Francisco

by sandrashearer

I know this place is known for its facials but I have to say it is my favorite place in the city to go for massage. The rooms and beds are so comfortable and whatever they are doing over there they know how to hire talented therapists. Every single person I have seen for massage has been off the charts good. And they go the extra mile with pampering including hot towels on my feet and back. You can get last minute massage appointments a lot of the time during the week, which is always good for people like me who are not good at planning. I love this place!

Pros: Super nice staff and incredible rooms

Cons: nothing

Spa Radiance is a dream!

by celiagans

Ok, I go to a lot of spas and this one is incredible. While they do not have a large waiting area or relaxation room, their treatments are to die for. I have had problem skin all my life. After working with a number of estheticians at Spa Radiance, my skin has completely changed. I am not kidding you. I look like a different person. All my friends and family comment every time they see me. What I love at Spa Radiance is their Peel Bar. They have something like 30 peels to choose from. They really work. My skin is smooth and glowy. Oh, and I love their rooms and beds. Very luxurious. I feel totally pampered when I come here. You will love it. Definitely book a facial.

Pros: Incredible treatments. VERY knowledgeable staff. Beautiful environment.

Cons: Small waiting area.

One of the best spa experiences I have had in San Francisco

by jessieslayton

For my birthday my boyfriend booked me a warm lavender salt scrub, massage, and facial at Spa Radiance. The whole experience was divine. They are doing something right there...every single staff member was warm, inviting and professional. My scrub and massage were out of this world. They have a shower to rinse off in between treatments. My skin was absolutely smooth after the treatment and Leslie the massage therapist is excellent. After I went for my facial. This was not an ordinary facial. First, they do lots of massage on your face, neck, shoulders and feet and hands. I had an LED lightening facial using specials lights that literally made my complexion smoother. It really worked and I can be quite skeptical. All in all one of the best spa experiences I have had.

if I could give it 0 stars I would!

by sfcitygal2008

I got the organic facial and that was a HUGE mistake. I was warned that it was going to burn a little, which I thought was weird, but sat through the burning anyway. I don't even have sensitive skin. Regardless, it probably burned a little more than it should have because unfortunately it left me looking like I had razor burn along my chin and jaw line, so bad I took a day off of work. The following day I had a dry skin beard and little flakes of skin kept falling onto my keyboard at work (GROSS!!). I will never go back there again. You've been warned.

Pros: my appointment started on time

Cons: parking, high prices, no skills

Hands Down - Best Spa in SF

by ChestnutGirl

I have been to more or less every spa in the city since moving here 2 years ago. I will never go anywhere else after finding this place. BEST FACIALS EVER. EVER. Julia is amazing.
The products are great, service is great. Worth the $$ and it is usually (surprisingly) easy to book appointments.

Pros: NO SALES PRESSURE; eco-friendly organic products (vegan nail polish!); i love skin ceuticals and they have the whole line; extremely knowledgeable estheticians

Cons: None! well, a little pricey, but worth every penny

Really loved my day at this spa

by joannafeaster

New to the spa thing. Aesthetician Sherri gave me an amazing facial. She vacuumed my face with the dermabrasion - made me a "smoothie" she said. Well whatever she did, my face felt like silk. New to the area too, but I'm hooked.

Bikini ready!

by kellejm

A good bikini wax is hard to find but you can find one here! I won't say it was pain-free because, let's face it - ripping hair off your skin is not the most pleasurable experience ever - but Christina was quick and gentle. I highly recommend her!

Great Facial

by kahemmes

I just had a facial from Christina-I usually go to Kika but she was not avaialble so I gave Chrisitina a try--I am glad I did--don't get me wrong Kika is great but Christina was as well--my skin is actually glowing-she did full extractions for me-which some other aestheticians seem to be hesitant about--she also talked me through every step and expalined the benefits of each process--I am excited that I know have 2 great aestheticians I can see as Spa Radience!! (Just an FYI-I am in the skin care bsuiness myself so I know what a facial should be and the results you should get)

Pros: service, skin care products, facials that actually do something for you-not just fluff

Cons: no day spa ammenities-showers, steam, changing area etc

Do you Have to give it a star?

by luckysf74

Tremendously OVERRATED! Waited almost an hour, no apologies, and then the facial made me break out! I was better off with out the "deep pore cleansing" for over a hundred bucks. I have been to spas before when I have had good service (ie Jurlique,. Nob Hill Spa). I am sorry to say it- I will start writing about the good ones!!
Sad but true. Save your money and go somewhere else.

lovely spa

by adineen

I discovered Spa Radiance by following my esthetician, Christina, there. What a terrific place! Not only is Christina a pro, but everyone I have come into contact with there is super friendly, helpful and professional. I've had my legs, bikini, underarms and brows waxed, plus a facial, and all services and treatments were great. I highly recommend it.

Saving Face

by dancerkate

A family member suggested that I get a facial as I had been having symptoms of dermatillomania, or picking of the skin of the face. As a peformer, I had been applying heavy stage make-up six days a week. Not only was my skin a mess but I felt ashamed that in tying to "get rid" of blemishes, I was in fact scarring myself!
Luckily, I saved my face at Spa Radiance. My esthetician Christina helped me immensly by making me feel comfortable and not ashamed. She told me that this skin condition was more common than I had though and set up a regime for me to follow morning, noon and night. Every time I felt like picking, I did something good for my skin instead!
She gave me a gentle chemical peel which made my skin glow and she explained everything that she did so I could mimic the spa facial at home. Her approach was sensitive and thorough.
People who haven't seen me in a while comment on how beautiful I look now and I am free to let my face shine.

Best Waxing Treatment Each and Every Time!

by jodiehopkins

If you are looking for a truly fast, efficient and professionally performed Waxing Treatment, use Christina Fisher at the Radiance Spa in San Fransisco. She is so good at her work that I just had to share this info with you all. I have had many wax jobs in my life as most women in this city, and she is by far the best person to do the job to minimize the pain, discomfort and any complications that are often associated with this kind of treatment. She is also a pleasure to be around, and makes you feel like a VIP every time. My smooth legs thank you Christina!

Terrible experience

by katerina_ca

I just had a terrible experience at Spa Radiance. I usually go to a different place but i read a good review on Spa Radiance in a magazine and decided to give it a try. I got a bikini wax. The esthetician, Christine, did a horrible job resulting in several bruises in my bikini area. My skin was so damaged that it started ble-eding, but she assured me that it was "normal." Well, it is not. I get my bikini area waxed on a regular basis and this have never happened before. I left in tears - i am going to a beach vacation in Spain in a week, and just pray that the bruises will start going away by then. The girls at the checkout desk were completely unsympathetic and did not even offer that I spoke to a service manager about my experience.

a delightful day to get away

by jillirelandnow

I used to visit spa radiance about 5 years ago. I now have children and can't seem to get around to it. My mother in law was treating us to a spa day in Marin and we had to the worst experience ever. We waited in the lobby for 45 MINUTES! and then were told that we were in the wrong lobby and missed one of our appointments. We drove into the city last minute and went to spa radiance. They were suprisingly able to take both my mother and i later that afternoon. My mother-in-law saw Caroline and I saw Cheri - both were skilled - amazing facials. Relaxing and I left with that glow I missed. My mother-in-law also got a very nice pedicure that looked polished and lasted. It's a little out of my way now, but I won't make the mistake again and go anywhere else.

Pros: skilled estheticians, extensive products, accomidating

Cons: parking, distance

BEST BROWS IN THE CITY!

by kdlmo

I have been having my brows done professionaly for years. When a co-worker recommended Rebecca ar Spa Radiance, I thought I would give her a try...What a surprise!!! My brows have NEVER looked so good!! She spent time talking with me about my brows, and what I liked and disliked about them. She made recommendations on how we could reshape them to better suit my face. They are perfect now, and make me look younger! Thanks Rebecca!!

Inviting staff, excellent treatments

by jylsf

This neighborhood gem has staying-power, and here's the secret: its' consistently warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere, coupled with top-notch treatments. I consistently return for basic service such as their relaxing and private spa mani/pedi (with the nicest professionals, by the by), and their waxing services. And of course, the occasional massage, which never disappoints. There are plenty of places to go to in the city for these services, but what keeps Spa Radiance at the top of my list is the top-notch reception + service I always receive. Kudos to Dorette and her staff for running such a professional and FRIENDLY operation.

Pros: Everything, once in the door...

Cons: Parking in the neighborhood...

The reason I bought myself a gift certificate for Spa Radiance . . .

by citykittyboo

. . . is Dorette Sommer!!

*FYI This is in response to a negative review written about a great person.*

I was at a fundraiser for Home Away From Homelessness last night and bid on (and won) a package that included a massage at Spa Radiance. The reason I knew I had to bid and finally experience Spa Radiance for myself is because of Dorette. I met Dorette there months ago while working on a book featuring women owned businesses in SF. She was so welcoming and kind without an ounce of fakeness behind her smile. I have since joined her marathon training group.

Dorette is why I'm going to Spa Radiance and why my legs and butt are going to be fierce as heck!! It's too bad that sometimes we let our judgments get in the way of coming to know really special people. Take is from someone who hates fakeness as much as the next gal - Dorette is a gem and if you happen to see her out in the spa or running around the city, say hi! She will probably give you a hug and she will definitely give you a smile. :)

Excellent Massage & Customer Service!

by dianefrancis

I booked a massage to help recover from a hard weekend workout. I was treated professionally by the front desk staff, Dorette who explained that I would benefit the most from a light sport massage that could help with my sore legs. The massage was excellent as was the relaxing atmosphere and decor. It was a very postitive and healing experience. I plan to make this my new routine.

Pros: Nice ambience and service from the front desk and therapist

Cons: Parking was not available and I was almost late to my appointment

Love The facial and the great customer service!

by thero

I was greeted by the front desk representatives while entering the door. The Front desk representatives were very polite and professional. There were refreshments and they even asked me if I needed some tea. I had a facial with rene and was great! She knew exactly what to do when I told her my problem areas. No products were pushed to me but I received great recommendations from her. See Rene for Facials!

Best Massage, Worst Summer!

by lorcortez

My partner and I visited the spa for massage and body treatments. The therapists are very talented!! The massages were absolutely wonderful. I cannot say the same for the body treatments; they DO NOT have a Wet Room. We had to shower off the "scrub" in a separate shower room. It totally interrupted the flow of the whole experience. I made an attempt to voice my disappointment and was greeted by "the customer service manager". I found Dorette Summer extremely plastic. She does not fit the "Spa" culture. Every word that was uttered was extremely rehearsed & insincere. In turn, we left the spa without expressing the good and bad of our experience.

Pros: skilled therapists

Cons: tiny waiting area = louge area, waiting area & refreshment table = cramped quarters, no locker room

The Best Spa in the City - by far!

by tinafogelquist

Spa Radiance completely swept me off my feet. The spa is beautiful - very elegant, warm and inviting. The staff are professional and really know their stuff. I have never had a better facial than the Super Duper at Spa Radiance. They massage your hands and feet, put on warm booties and really give you the royal treatment. They have the best machines and technologies available in the city. By far the best place I have gone in San Francisco. Pure heaven.

fantastic facial

by bgirl180

I had a salicylic peel and oxygen facial there. It was great, the best facial i've ever gotten. Lots of additional massage of the head, neck, shoulders, and feet which made it very relaxing and soothing. It seems pricey, but for my two facials, the time spent in relation to the amoung charged was actually not a bad deal at all (approx 75 min facial for $180 - i've had other facials that lasted only 45 min but charged $150). Ask for Jenny.

Pros: Relaxing, Fantastic staff, good atmosphere

Cons: parking

Really bad spa experience

by sakirby00

I can't believe that this spa would have good reviews. Especially a spa located in one of the best neighborhoods, in one of the nicest cities in the country. I thought the service would be SO much better. I got a pedicure and a brow wax. The brow wax was great and the woman was really nice but, I was made to wait 25 minutes sitting in the lobby!!!! The pedicure was HORRIBLE. I have had pedicures in many places around the country and this was one of the worst. It was painful. It was also expensive for very little treatment. No massaging, no anything that felt good. It was strictly painful procedures on my toes. It was awful. On top of that, I had to wait forever for everything. I stood at the counter for 10 minutes before they would even let me pay! I will NOT go back.

Cons: Really Slow Service, Painful Pedicure, Not great atmosphere

Why go anywhere else?

by jenfiala

About a year ago I was seriously scarred from dermabrasion at another spa. I went to Spa Radiance for a healing light therapy treatment, recommended by a friend, for one month and the raw redness of my skin disappeared. I have been a loyal client ever since for facial maitenance. I have never been to another spa that better combines a boutique-y luxurious service with noticable results. As long as I am in San Francisco, I would never risk or bother to go anywhere else.

Pros: educated staff, clean, professional

Cons: no validated parking, refreshments

by augenblau

Spa Radiance came recomended to me by one of my very best costomers and now I know why. I GOT RESULTS! This is one SPA committed to lasting results and lasting relationships. That Angelina Umansky sure knows how to hand pick her therapists and staff. From the Customer Service who delighfully greets me by name and the facialist who truly reversed the againg process and sun damage on my skin. At a humble age of 36, my friends now tell me I have beautiful skin - and it's the skin I've always wanted. Thank you SPA RADIANCE.

The spa is absolutely beautiful. The decor is top notch with a French influence. I understand that the spa owner frequently travels to France for inspiration and advanced skin care techniques. Paradise!

by laurenwilliams

I have had nothing but great experiences here. The massage therapists really know what they're doing and are reasonable compared to the big spas like the Claremont or Sonoma Mission Inn. Joel, Mike and Haluk should all be in the Massage Hall of Fame. I can't remember other masseuses' names, else I'd mention them too. I really can say that I've tried alot of spas for massage but these therapists are the cream of the crop. Plus, the facials are top drawer. Whether it's oxygen, LED, or one of the owner's scented organic treatments, you actually see the results. Sarah, Angelina and Galena are my favorites I always feel great when I walk out of here. That is the measure for me. I recommend it highly!

Pros: Therapists, Products, Staff

Cramped "spa" anything but radiant!

by susank71

1 massage & facial as a gift from a friend, and once for waxing. Had to wait 25 min. for the first service, no apology and massage was mediocre. Facial was absolutely horrible - the esthetician was very critical of my skin, and insulted me asking if my skin was bad after my PREGNANCY (never been pregnant!) She continued to be very brash, trying to sell additional services. After I explained I had an event that evening, she was extremely harsh on my skin - scarring for 3 days! After the "service" I complained to the front desk. They refused to cancel (or refund my friend!) an unused pedicure service. Too upset to use it, I left almost in tears. DIFFERENT esthetician who did the waxing was good - hopefully she's found a classier place. There are SO many great salons in the city, dont waste money here!

Ok Massage

by pdiddy123

I have been twice now and the massages are ok. Both times the massage therapists seemed as if they were going through the motions. Perhaps, it was because i always take the last apt of the day, but for the price it should not matter. I love the atmosphere and the staff. Everyone is nice and helpful but the actual service is ok. I heard the facials and waxing is great, unfortuantely, i will try somewhere else when it comes to massages.....

I have been going to Spa Radiance for about 2 years now and have to say that my skin has never looked this amazing. If you're looking for results(but love the pampering, too) go to Sarah. First of all, she's in the most amazing upstairs room with the comfiest, plushest bed in the world. Secondly, she treats me with compassion and listens to me and my needs. She's not afraid to get in there-the extractions may not be pleasant but I'm cleaner than clean afterwards. Try the Super Duper and you may just want to live there. I'll never go anywhere else.

Not worth it!

by amzfitz

I've had massages, mist-on tan, and a facial here. The staff had a lot of attitude, except when it was time to recommend products. The (male) masseuse used way too much pressure, although I asked him repeatedly to tone it down, and kept saying "ouch." The esthetician who did my facial "upgraded" me to an oxygen facial without telling me - it cost more than the facial that I booked and she waved some air over my face - what the heck was that? I've been to dozens of spas and the value here is even less than at some hotels.

My facial also started twenty minutes late, and the esthetician never apologized or acknowledged it. But they are very strict about their cancellation policy - I guess that they think that only their time is valuable.

I'm just not sure what all of the hype is about.

Pros: Variety of Services

Cons: Cost, Attitude, Parking

by augstagunn

Spa Radiance has one great thing about it. Haluk the massage therapist. He is by far the best thing that ever happened to this spa. This place is overpriced for what you get but Haluk is definately worth the money. The products are over the top expensive. I also have had facials, waxing, and eyelash coloring. They were all very disappointing with all the hype Spa Radiance gives itself. The old Spa Radiance was much different with a different feel. The treatments were actually much better back then. The walls to the treatments rooms are very thin and you can hear everything.

Pros: Haluk, Fruit flavored water

Cons: , too many to name

rude staff. why bother?

by shymontana

I walked into Spa Radiance to check out their products and book a facial appointments. There were two people at the front desk. Neither one acknowledged my presence - even after I greeted them hello. I milled around for a couple of minutes, thinking that someone would eventually notice me since I was the only one in the reception area. Of course, no one did. I left, saying "goodbye" and "thank you". Still, no response. Either the people here are deaf or incredibly rude. Don't bother.

Cons: , rude, rude

Great staff

by jnyc

I was surprised to read all the negative reviews of spa radiance. I have been getting facials from Carrie and massages from Roxanne for over a year now, both are great! Never had a problem booking or with the reception staff. For packages, it's true that there doesn't seem to be a private place to rest between sessions. My experience with individual appointments has been fantastic

Pros: Staff
