Ratings_icons Oregon City Medical is OK BUT,,,,,,,,,,..........

Dorothy W.

If you need a primary medical provider for just very brief thing such as a migrane that wont go away Oregon City medical is perfect for you.
They only allow 15 minutes per appointment so if you have more than one question for the doctor that involves anything more than a yes or no answer, you will have to schedule another appointment. So if you go in because you want to get checked for diabetes, cholesterol, migrane, back aches, you need to set up 4 different appointments, they wont see you once to take care of all of the appointments.
Also on more than one occasion they have scheduled me for appointments but failed to write my name on that time slot so they ask "Can we reschedule you?" UMM NO.

Ratings_icons Oregon City Medical is extremely unorganized. They need help!

This is the most UNORGANIZED clinic!! I have been there a few times to see Barbara Lawson. She is fantastic! The phone system is awful; I'm not sure how many phone lines they have, but whenever I call I have to call multiple times because they're answering machine comes on without an option to leave a message!

I was late for last appointment. there was road construction and I called to let them know I would be late and there was that message. Even after 20 minutes of calling there was no answer. I get there...7 minutes late and the receptionist tells me we will have to reschedule because I was late. I try to explain, but she isn't listening. I refuse to reschedule and demand to be seen. I know the receptionists have to deal with a lot, but she was so smug and rude. Even after she called over someone else she told me I would have to wait to be squeezed in because I was late. 7 minutes! I told her that unless Barbara was sitting in back twiddling her thumbs waiting for me, i was not leaving. Like they don't make you wait in the rooms for 30 minutes.

In addition, they didn't ask for my co-pay. I didn't offer. I am sure they will be sending me a bil with a penalty for not paying at time of service. That will be a fun conversation I'm sure.

So when I was seen (about 40 minutes later), it wasn't even my doctor. The whole reason I go to this hole. Her name was Julianne. She is an NP and was one of the rudest providers I have seen. She didn't even look up at me, gave me misleading information and was flat out unprofessional! I am never going back! A shame to give up a good provider.

They mean extremely well but they are usually too busy and have been servicing a tough demographic of patients. If you have chronic pain issues, they will prescribe for you but you seem to become a lower class citizen, expected to make monthly office visits (for monthly co-pays, of course) and are subjected to monthly drug screens that are supremely expensive ($160 for me). If one of FNPs doesn't think your drug screen is the way it should be, you are subjected to a cross-examination that is denigrating in tone and intent. I appreciated their providing for me but was disappointed at being lumped in with the past patients who obtained medication for other (probably illegal) uses other than to treat their conditions. Be aware that if you do require narcotic pain control, it's going to be an unpleasant experience. They will write you the initial prescription cheerfully and without issue but if you ask for the refill, it's a whole different and costly world, financially and emotionally. Once leaving their care (where they no longer have to write prescriptions for you), they will return to their cheerful, caring ways. Sorry, Danielle, but this is the truth.

Ratings_icons Very bad experience

I do not know why I'm even alive after going to Oregon City Medical. While. Blackwell is able to obtain some good practitioners they always leave once I develop a good working relationship. I am always the one having to insist on specialist and I've been correct 100% from the G.I. specialist for what appeared to be I.B.S.C. ,a spinal fusion, to a cognitive disorder. I was there recently to have a very low dose of pain killer filled the practitioner I was to see was sick, While Blackwell could have seen me, she did not. I travel so I will probably end up in the E.R. again thanks to her wonderful medical services. I cannot believe this person is allowed to practice. Thomas T.

Ratings_icons Complaints about OC Medical

Kelli H.

I have been a patient at OC medical for about three or four years now. I have OHP. A LOT of their patients are OHP! Now, given that most doctors won't even LOOK at you with this kind of lacking insurance, to say the least, Danielle and her staff will take it. At first I had Kim. Thought she was great, but she didn't have the bedside manner that I found in Barb and in Danielle! A few years ago, I was in the midst of an emotional crisis that aggravated my anxiety issues. I had run out of my medication. Danielle saw me IMMEDIATELY and it was closing time. I was an absolute mess! She made sure I had my meds RIGHT AWAY at Haagens, which was right across the way from the old clinic. She took one look at my blood pressure, offered soothing words of comfort, and helped me through a major panic attack. I got my meds within forty five minutes and I SWEAR to GOD this woman saved my life simply because she LISTENED. I've heard that Danielle runs things with an iron fist. Don't you kind of have too?? Not even all of her staff agrees with her in every way, but ya know what? It's diversity of opinions in action. I believe there is mutual respect. Then came Barb Lawson. I remembered her from CCPH. She is one of THE best. Danielle hires those that are of diviersity, giving the POOR options in healthcare. HELLO???
I do agree that there should be more office staff, given the populace that continues to increase in whom is now served..BUT, the staff there has always been awesome. No matter how long it takes. The only "complaint" i've had is with just one or two students from Apollo college who didn't seem to care to be there. But I also noticed that they don't REMAIN there either. There are some awesome staff there who take my vitals and ARE interested in ME as a patient. I'm sure Danielle understands which ones to keep and which ones not too!
I've been to specialists offices many times in which I was treated like dirt, yet their offices were decorated aplenty in the profits they obviously bring from their business. It's about PATIENTS people, not about decorative environments. Personally, with the care I receive there, I wouldn't go ANYWHERE else. There is even a doc there that I DON"T care for, and had seen at another clinic, but I'm GLAD Danielle hired her! We can choose whom we see. For me, it's Barb Lawson. It WAS danielle. ANd there are many other competent and wonderful professionals who work there that could be working elsewhere for SO MUCH MORE MONEY!
They genuinely care.

Please remember the care you're getting when you're there. Sometimes, you have to be persistant in phone calling and the staff for refills. That's okay. The staff is still awesome! Give the clinic an honest try. And if you don't like one doc, ask for another, but those of you on OHP, remember that choices are limited sometimes with your insurance. AT this clinic, they are NOT. Also remember that some of the cons are far less worse than the pros. The pros here is the care we receive from those who TRULY TRULY care for those of us that cannot afford a lot or have poor insurance coverage. I hope Danielle never loses sight of those who have little....because she and her clinic truly do offer much more to those of us who have less. They inspire me to do more for those who are less fortunate. Keep up the good work Danielle!

Ratings_icons My Experience

Elaine G.

I don't want to go to Oregon City Medical again. I have been going there for years and they started giving me drug screens and changing my FNP. I told Danielle I was worried about what it would be like for her to no monitor my care. Now I am scared to even talk to a practitioner because they act so suspicious and unkind. I kept trying to give them a benefit of the doubt. Then they called my home demanding I come in for a drug screen knowing I have a small child at home and don't drive. They told me my fifth drug screen was negative and should have shown drugs in it and I had to come in for a pill count and another drug screen right then. I couldn't even figure out why my test turned out that way. Then I felt perhaps the FNP had it in for me. I warn anybody it just turns into a vicious circle. Its kind of sad because I use to feel so comfortable going there and talking about health issues and problems without feeling nervous and judged.

Ratings_icons Don't let them put you on hold

Love the medical staff, the office staff however leave a lot to be desired. Danielle is the best, but if you are put on hold you will die of old age before you get a live person again!!

Ratings_icons Danielle is the best!

They might not have the best looking waiting room, but that's not why I'm there for is to judge the way the place looks. Danielle is the best because she would take care of a baby with no medical in a heart beat for FREE and she did that with my newborn Gr. neice. She never charged a penny and didn't stress the point of wanting money to take care of her.I have been going out there for 3 years and I couldn't ask for better care with NO insurance. She does whatever she can giving people samples for months because she knows they don't have the money to buy the medicine.DANIELLE IS THE BEST! She remembers every patients name and their families problems, she's always concerned with helping anyway she can. She should be very proud of herself. The only thing is I was put on hold the entire time I wrote this to ask for my appt time. Her office staff is the worse and its not her fault she's so busy with patient care the phones shouldn't be a concern to her she's busy. I am a MA and the girls she has working in the office a lot of them are on their graduation training and they should not be given a passing grade for front office. They leave you on hold for anywhere from 5 to 22 mins at a time, prescriptions are left on hold for up to 4 days sittin on the fax machine with medications that are suppose to be taken on a reg. basis without missing your dose is another bad thing with her front office.

Ratings_icons oregon city medical; a good place to go

chelsie b.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the office. yes, it's small, but it's comfortable small. much less daunting than the starkness of the larger, hospital like clinics where doctors see so many people that they don't remember you. and have you ever been to the county clinic?! rooms just as small, but have no warmth or personal feeling. each patient is pushed in and out within 20 minutes as if taking longer means your visit is free. barbara lawson is one of the most gentle and kind womens health doctcrs there ever was. your bound to be uncomfortable in those type of appts., but she takes care to ease the discomfort. dr. earhart is excellent with kids. she believes in a mother's instincts, and listens without patronizing. and danielle is the absolute best doctor I have ever had. she is compassionate, and straight forward and she will stay with you as long as it takes.she believes in problem solving. she understands the demands made on a mom and she cares about her patients. i am so greatful to have her as my doctor. i do have 2 complaints however. it is nearly impossible to get ahold of my doctor when I need her. I can leave messages every single day for a week and still hear nothing back. also, there is a $20 no show fee. I am mindful of this, and I ALWAYS call, usually having to leave a message. but I do. and I still get charged. 9 times out of 10, i get charged for that visit i called in to cancel at least a day in advance.

Ratings_icons Not sure if I love it or hate it!

Letanya B. | insider Insider | Rank: 12,942

I'm new to the area and picked out this Dr. from my provider directory. I wanted a female and someone close to my home. When I walked in I felt like I was in a dirty welfare clinic or something. It was a business suite converted to a tiny dr. office. There were all these really grossly sick nasty people in there and I wanted to bolt. But I already paid my co-pay (they make you pay BEFORE you see the doc - weird) so I stayed.

I am confused what to rate them because the staff and Dr. are all SUPER nice people and did their job well. It's just the surroundings are questionable.

PROS: Good service, friendly staff, open 6 days a week
CONS: Environment could be more presentable
