Throughout the meal we were serenaded by the wonderful sounds of the rushing creek, very therapeutic. No matter which way you were seated there was a beautiful views of either the rushing creek, the nearby mountain tops, the lush flower bed or the rustic restaurant . The meal took the experience to another level. We started with the escargot. It was the first time that I had ever tried them they were excellent. We moved on to our entrees, I had the Halibut which was the fish special for the evening, it was perfectly cooked with great flavor.

Professional, respectful, charismatic and very attentive. Even when you first sit down, you are welcomed by trusting and responsive employees who truly care about your experience. Although incredibly minimal, mistakes do happen, but every single employee at the Red Lion will go above and beyond your expectations to make sure that you feel compensated for any irregularities in your service. As your dinner progresses, you being to notice that the amount of attention you receive from the staff only improves and increases. By the time you're paying your bill, you don't even want to go anymore.

Your first few steps in the door draw you in with its welcoming decor and classy feel. Whether you are waiting to be seated or are simply enjoying a drink at the bar: you can spend hours eying the historic photos, decorations, and ornaments that adorn the inside of the restaurant. Everywhere you look you see a small piece of Boulder history.

I first had dinner here as a guest at my friends wedding. The wedding was really beautiful and the staff was really helpful and it was always easy to find someone to get a beverage. My friend says that they were super awesome to her and her husband and to the rest of her family and friends. The help needed is perhaps a few of the good items could use a revamp. None the less, the food was super, well done on the prime rib, I think I mentioned that. :) The salmon was awesome as well. I will continue to go there when I need to get out of town.

Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing. This was my first visit to the Red Lion Restaurant. I've driven by it many times and always thought it to be in a great location and very inviting. From the moment I walked in the door I could feel the disappointment sink in. We were seated in a newer addition to the old building which was cold, drafty and had no style or warmth but white walls. Every single one of the waitstaff appeared to be living in lala land. Instead of greeting us our waitress was apologizing for one thing or another the entire meal. She commented after the mistakes and mishaps along with extremely long wait time and screw up on a friends meal that both the owner and chef were "out of town". I found that hard to believe during the busy 5280 restaurant week. Once the mix up on the friends entree was brought to their attention one of the waiters had to "check" on it TWICE because he obviously wasn't aware of what the entree was supposed to include (described by their menu). Once our waitress finally came to the table, she fed us a lie about the entree we knew to be incorrect after watching others in the dining room get served the actual entree, very uncomfortable and angering. What happened to the customer's always right.... even when they ARE? That along with ho-hum food I would suggest you take your money else where. I will not be returning.

Well I went here for one of my formals and it was okay. It wasn't all that it was made up to be. Don't take me wrong it was nice and stuff but it was cold, they had our dance floor in a tent outside when it was in the middle of the winter.

When the owner stopped by our table to see how our meals were, and I replied that my meat was dry, he became offended and told me how wrong I was. We were regular customers up until tonight, now we will go somewhere else. I believe if he had tried my meat, he too would have complained. The moral of the story....Don't ask if you don't want to know, and when the customer is wrong, they don't come back.

I have been to many wonderful restaurants throughout the years, but the Red Lion has the most beautiful setting I've found. Their game is masterfully prepared and the Steak Diane (prepared tableside) is the most mouthwatering dish I've had in years. I've also had the roasted quail , Australian lobster tail, and buffalo stroganoff; and I can't wait to try more of their dishes. I haven't had a mediocre or bad one yet!
Besides the food, the service is beyond compare. I never once had to wait for anything. The staff was knowledgeable, courteous, and pleasant.
The best part about this restaurant is the creekside dining. Imagine that you're sitting next to a babbling creek nestled in the heart of Boulder canyon, sipping champagne, and blocking out the stresses of everyday life! If you can imagine how great that would be, then you should make a reservation and make it come true! I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!

My parents came to Longmont to visit from Kansas this past week and I was looking for the perfect outdoor eating experience: I could not have picked a better place than the Red Lion Restaurant. It was a beautiful sunny day we showed up a little after 6:00 and were seated outside on the lawn. Just off to the side of the table was a wonderful stairwell leading down along Boulder Creek. Throughout the meal we were serenaded by the wonderful sounds of the rushing creek, very therapeutic. No matter which way you were seated there was a beautful views of either the rushing creek, the nearby mountain tops, the lush flower bed or the rustic restaurant . The meal took the experience to another level. We started with the escargot. It was the first time that I had ever tried them they were excellent. We moved on to our entrees, I had the Halibut which was the fish special for the evening, it was perfectly cooked with great flavor. The table favorite though was the Buffalo Ribeye ordered by my mother, the meat came out to temperature. She often finds that she has to return meat that has been improperly cooked, not here! The flavor was devine and we were all a tad jealous because of her superior ordering skills. We followed up our entrees with coffee and dessert. This time I won as I ordered the table favorite: White Chocolate Triple Berry Bash I believe, wow, mouth watering good. Service was well timed and attentive throughout the meal. I never felt rushed as we were there to enjoy ourselves and the beautiful setting. All and all a great night, I would definetly recommend to others. We capped off our evening with a nice stroll along the River Walk.

I recently visited here for the first time last weekend (CU Graduation) and my experience was horrible! The food was OK nothing too exciting but the problem with with the wait staff. A loud group nearby our table was loudly celebrating which is one thing- what went wrong was when the wait staff joined in....even having a napkin fight in the middle of the dining room! Our server felt badly and tried to stop it- didn't work. Their waiter actually stopped our meal to congratulate a dinner on graduating (um a student at every table there had graduated). If I'm paying $30 for a meal I expect not to be in such a horrible ill run environment.

Pros: Parking, view

The red lion in is located 3 miles up the Boulder canyon; it is in an older building next to Boulder creek. The rooms are small with not many windows but the lighting is OK.

I ordered the filet mignon and soup, to start with they brought out bread rolls that were very plain and tasted like cheap grocery store picnic rolls very bland and commercial made. The cream of asparagus soup tasted very bland like it was from a can and the pieces of asparagus in it were completely mush and soggy like they sat in a can for months or years, I am quite sure it was canned soup.

At this point I was very worried what the rest of my expensive meal was going to be like. I ordered the filet mignon it came out and it was a good piece of meat, I felt a little better. The filet mignon was OK it was it was good piece of meat and cooked OK but just was very plain and dry like a steak from a chain restaurant.

All the sides were poor the mashed potatoes were instant from a box and the other vegetables were fresh but just boiled and very plain. Usually at that kind of price range you get real potatoes and some sauted vegetables.

It would have been an average $25 meal from a chain restaurant but when I paid double I was very unimpressed.

Big prices but only average food, save your money this place is not worth it..

WE ARE FROM BOULDER AND HAD NEVER VISITED RED LION AND WE WILL NEVER EVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!

THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST FOOD I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN SUCH AN EXPENSIVE TYPE RESTAURANT!

FIRST, THE FOOD WAS SO LUKE WARM, IT ONLY TOOK MINUTES BEFORE IT WAS VERY COLD! THE GARLIC MASHED POTATOES WERE SO OLD THE OUTSIDE OF THE POTATOES HAD FORMED INTO A HARD SHELL! MY BAKED POTATO WAS TINY AND OLD ALSO - SO OLD THE MEAT OF THE POTATO WAS STUCK TO THE SIDES OF THE OLD SKIN!

MY DINNER SALAD HAD OBVIOUSLY BEEN MADE IN THE LUNCH HOURS AND SAT IN THE FRIDGE ALL DAY. IT WAS VERY SKIMPY AND THE RANCH DRESSING, OMG, HORRIBLE! IT TASTED LIKE NO-FAT RANCH DRESSING!

WE ARE HAVING GUESTS COME HERE TO BOULDER TO VISIT IN EARLY AUGUST AND WE WERE GOING TO TAKE THEM TO RED LION. WE WILL NOT BE DOING THAT NOW!

TOURISTS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS TOURIST TRAP AND NOT REWARD THE RESTAURANT FOR SUCH INCOMPETENCY!!!!

PS: EVEN THE FLATWARE WAS DIRTY!!!!!

Pros: The only plus to this restaurant is eating outside. Be aware they automatically charge 20% tip if you sit outside.

Cons: read the review

Prices were too high for the quality you get. Salmon was overcooked. Service wasn't great. They didn't even disclose to us up front that when you're seated outside, they automatically add on 20% gratuity (it was just the 2 of us). There was no way I would've given that high of a tip for the bad service we received. We will NOT be going back there again.

Pros: Pretty setting

Cons: Food, price and service

Visited twice this week. First time, the trout was a little overcooked on the edges, but flavorful nonetheless. The creme brulee was exceptional - easily one of the best I've ever eaten. Second time, tried the caribou special and it was fabulous! Tender, well prepared and very flavorful. Served on mashed sweet potato with cracked pepper, the potato was surprisingly good (not a big fan of pepper). I easily cleaned my plate and had another creme brulee.
I disagree with the previous comments about the billing. If they did charge seperately for vegetables, they no longer. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion. Not cheap, but not anywhere near what I would call expensive. Both times I visited the staff was attentive and friendly and my overall experience was positive

After what had been a very pleasant meal, my companion and I left the Red Lion angry and disgusted. We had been prepared for a costly bill, and were not upset at the prices. However, we were upset at the Restaurant's practise of charging separately for the vegetables that came with the meal (automatically) without listing these costs in the menu or even stating in the menu that a separate cost would be charged. After a fantastic meal, it left a bad taste in our mouths.

We recently had my brother's graduation dinner at the Red Lion, and it was great. We were seated promptly (surprising when you're a party of 8 on a Friday night) and greeted by our jovial server, who kept us entertained the whole way through the meal. I don't have a particularly adventurous palate, and I was squeamish about all the game on the menu (hence I ordered rack of lamb) but trying tidbits of others' meals, it was all wonderful. The boar was especially tasty. Highly recommended for a fun night with a big group.
