I haven't been there but tried to go and they said that they were full at the location closest to me. They are very vague about prices to join and you need to come in for some kind of interview first. I don't know, I just gave up. It had good reviews from people who have been there so I can't say it's a bad place. But I didn't like the strange treatment on the phone. If they don't have the capacity to have many people, they should say that on their website that way you won't waste your time calling.

Great Workouts
Awesome for General Physical fitness
Not great for sport specific conditioning. If your motivation comes from groups then this is place for you. Go to crossfit webite for free version of workouts.
Few options when joining 3-4 different contracts that go from expensive to crazy expensive.

Pros: intensity

Cons: cheerleading inflexible

The owner (Andy) has created an environment that encourages hard work, effort, excellence and competition while somehow avoiding the egos. This is a collaborative environment, where everyone's successes - regardless of level - are lauded. The workouts themselves are brutal, but somehow team atmosphere will make you work harder than you ever thought you would. You'll see results faster than you thought possible... IF you put in the effort.

It's totally worth it. Try it!

Pros: Trainers are amazing!

This is by far the most effective workout that I have ever found in over 20 years of athletics, I will never rejoin a 24 Hr Fitness, or Gold's Gym again!! Anything that you love to do physically, the people at Petranek Fitness will shape you to do exponentially better. Give the trainers there 2 months and you'll be in the best shape of your life. Is it easy? Absolutely not. Is it incredibly effective? Absolutely. If you want easy and you want minimal results, then it's a great day to go somewhere else. If you want to work your tail off with some of the most wonderful, positive, health minded individuals in L.A, then come join us.

This is hand's down the best gym I've ever gone to! The staff is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The facilities are amazing--lots of room to do stuff...real stuff with weights and balance boards and rope climbs and box jumps--no machines that do nothing for you here. I like the variation and the encouragement of everyone who comes to classes. Petranek Fitness has made me much stronger for competition in the various endurance events I compete. And you can constantly learn new skills here. It's definitely no ordinary gym! It's what other gyms should aspire to, but don't!

Petranek Fitness is unlike any gym I've found. If you are like me who is easily board with routines, this is the place for you. There is no such thing as "a routine" here. Each class I've taken combines different exercises combinations. Classes are smaller; the instructors are incredibly down to earth; and the other people who take the class both encourage and "push" me to do more than I think I can. I love the intensity, along with the comraderie of the people this gym attrats. Within 3 months, I've seen the difference in my body - my overall strength, cardiovascular, speed, and flexibility. Hands down, this place rocks!

Pros: good energy from people, never boring, great personal results

.

This is easily the best gym I've ever been a member of. Small classes make it as personalized as private training sessions, and the support of a close-knit gym community makes it encouraging and easy to stay committed to. Also, the workouts are both the hardest I've ever done and the most fun. This is definitely NOT a gym for people who want to walk 45 minutes on the treadmill followed by 15 minutes of light stretching. It will push you to your limits

Petranek Fitness has no carpeting and no TVs. You're there to work out, not have high tea. The trainers teach you skills that you can then do at home, on the road, and, most importantly, without a trainer hovering over you. I have a lifetime hatred of exercise and in high school I hung out with the punks and stoners and made fun of the jocks. But at 38, with the prospect of a brittle-boned, weak and fragile old age looming, I knew I had to get over my hatred of exercise and make it a part of my everyday life. At the root of my hatred were three issues: working out took a huge chunk of time out of my day, I never saw results, and it was boring. I can't believe my good fortune in finding Petranek Fitness because it addresses all 3 of those things. The workouts are short and effective, they are always different and challenging, and the results are astonishing. I was so out of shape when I did the baseline workout at the free orientation that it took me nearly 13 minutes to complete. Afterwards, I couldn't sit up when I was done but had to sit on the floor leaning against a plyo box while I tried to look like I could understand what Andy was saying. My ears were popping like I had just been on an airplane, and I was coughing as a result of what I later found out was exercise-induced asthma (which has since gone away). I was sore for 4 days and limped into my local drugstore to buy my very first tube of Ben-Gay. Does that mean that the workout was too intense? No, it meant I was way more out of shape than I could have guessed. How do I know? Because after 2 months at Petranek Fitness, I did the very same workout in 7.5 minutes **as a warmup for another workout**. I now work out 5 days a week, 2 at the gym and 3 at home on my own, and I love it. I wouldn't skip it if I could. If you want to be mentally and physically challenged to do the impossible - and succeed - join this gym. If you want to watch Oprah while you lightly perspire, go somewhere else.

As a self-described klutz, I must admit that the idea of "elite fitness" seemed extremely daunting to me, but Petranek Fitness is not a place where jocks and gym freaks go to show off their impressive bench press numbers. Petranek Fitness is about community, encouragement, and constant improvement: in your health, your strength, your speed, your agility, and most importantly, in your sense of self. Andy, Becca and Dawn instruct to accomodate the level of all types of students--from the most non-athletic types (like me!) to the trained and experienced athlete. Their combined knowledge, support, and attitude make for a truly unique atmosphere in the world of health and fitness. You will get worked, you will love it, and you will keep going back for more!

If you are tired of your current work out or you work out regularly and are not seeing any changes, then Petranek Fitness is the place for you. With this taylor made, dynamic training program, you will see results after a few work out sessions.

However, let me warn you, PF is not for the faint at heart. If you are not in good shape and you want to experience PF please pray before you go. I was in one of my great work out time frames, so I signed up for one of Petranek Fitness challenges on the beach. I was excited, I love the ocean, and the mornings on the beach was just beautiful, I don't mind working out so I was ready. Believe me when I tell you that 1) I wanted to cry. 2) I wanted to lay down on the beach and take a nap. 3) I wanted to get my money back and drive home as quickly as I could.

I had to import muscles to help me climed, stretched, run (I don't run) and pull. However, I stuck it out even though I could not complete some of the exercises. I saw changes in my body, felt great after each workout session and was grateful that I had pushed myself. I recommend Petranek Fiteness only if you want to see positive changes in your body, challenge yourself and feel great.

Growing up, I was the one who always came in last during races or couldn't always participate in the gym activity. The atmosphere at Petranek Fitness helped me overcome my mental obstacles and push past barriers and limitations that I had set. I constantly challenge myself and found that I could do what I never thought was possible. At Petranek, Andy and the instructors created an atmosphere that is very encouraging. They constantly push us to do our best, but in a way that is not scary or annoying. The first workout was kind of intimidating, but perseverance and the rest of the group giving advice and cheering helps me get up for a 6am workout 3 days a week.

Petranek Fitness is more than a gym. It's a place to get stronger, inside and out. The coaching is supportive, encouraging, challenging and thorough, with careful attention to safety and form. And - it's a place where you can be part of a community of genuinely kind, caring people who like to have fun, work hard, and stretch themselves into new physical territory, getting stronger and faster. There isn't a lot of ego here - from Andy, the coaches, or the people who participate. And - you'll experience a form of fitness training that's unlike most anything that's out there!

The approach that is taken with Petranek Fitness and how they utilize crossfit will affect every aspect of your life. Quit wasting time with anything else. The real stuff is here but be prepared there is a high cost to true fitness. The workouts aren?t easy but, then again, doing the incredible never is.

Pros: atmosphere, community, knowledge, feedback, office hours, private skill sessions - and more

Cons: too bad I didn't find this 10 years ago.

I have watched Andy Petranek move from being a trainer at a gym to becoming the owner and operator of his own unique and specialized fitness center. I am not surprised that he has grown and succeeded so quickly. He takes great interest and care of each individual he works with. He is dynamic, sensitive, fun-loving, and knows the body well. I have been challenged and encouraged by Andy's expertise.

Pros: Great hours and convenient parking!

When I was a kid, I was always embarassed in Gym by the fact I could never do the rope climb, not even 1 inch. I worked out with Andy, and after three months, just before my 50th birthday I climbed to the top of the REALLY tall rope climb on Santa Monica beach, and slapped the top bar as the sun was setting. As great a moment as I have ever had.

Cons: none
