Do not do business with this guy!!! He ripped me off for $3000 in the late 90's. I see he is still up to his usual scams . He takes over an existing shop with a good rep then rips folks off. He had my Jeep and needed cash up front to fix

Worst experience of my life!! DO NOT GO HERE!! BEWARE!!

This guy who is the owner/mechanic, Jay Radichio, is a SCAM ARTIST!

Came in for tune up and he talked me into replacing my radiator and hose, said they were about to go and my engine would overheat... I was suspicious because I JUST had the hose replaced, and didn't tell him...

I immediately told him NOT to do the tune up and he tried to charge me a "service fee" just for looking at it, meaning just for trying to RIP ME OFF!

I went to another mechanic, and he said everything was PERFECT with my radiator and hoses, WHAT A JOKE!! This was four months ago, waited to be sure, and yep - Everything is fine!

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP!! YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF!!!

Minus 5 stars since Doyle sold A-1 to a used car salesman type Jay. They have dealership prices now.

They did our brakes, which went out 2 days later, resulting in an accident. Jay actually blamed me for the brakes going out!!

Then, last week our son brought his car in for an overpriced oil change at A-1. They dented the side of the car and denied it!!

Shame on you Jay!

I found Doyle as a college student trying to get my Honda's clutch repaired. Everywhere I called was trying to gouge me until my boss had me call Doyle, who gave me a quote at about 60% of other estimates. He's been my only mechanic since. I've never had a problem with his work, it's always been excellent, and his prices surprise me every time with how unbeatable they continue to be after all these years.

Jay & Coco are great additions to Doyle's business. They seem to share his philosophies on customer service and mechanic integrity. As a female, it's nice to be able to walk into a mechanic and not be leered at or condescended to.

I always say that good mechanics and dentists are hard to find, at least I have my mechanic.

Pros: Reliable, Honest, Fair

Cons: Can be very busy

Jay and Coco are fantastic. I primarily dealt with Jay, but both are knowledgeable mechanics who aren't trying to bully or upsell you. I took in my '97 Jeep Wrangler knowing I'd have to put a few thousand into the repairs/tuneup. They walked me through step-by-step every issue/repair, and kept me up-to-date with all the work that was being done. When the maintenance was complete, I was amazed. It felt like driving a new vehicle. They are prompt, knowledgeable, and great at what they do. I'm recommending this shop to all of my friends and all of you... it's so tough to find a good mechanic, but with these guys, you won't be disappointed. A-1 gets an A+

After 15 years of living in LA as a single lady, I had been taken to the cleaners by every mechanic West of the 405?yesterday that ALL changed.

I took my 2000 Camry to A-1 Auto. It was my second visit (the first visit was a simple oil change).

That morning I dropped my car off with a list of concerns for Doyle, the owner, and his team to look over. That afternoon, I returned to A-1 and was greeted in the office by Coco, one of the very nice, and very professional mechanics, then Doyle. Doyle took the time to sit down with me, and explain exactly what they had done to my car that day (and what DIDN?T have to be done) in terms that even I could understand. Doyle is funny, genuine, brutaly honest but he also seemed super busy because the phones were ringing off the hook?no wonder.

After all was said and done, he handed me the bill. My heart raced?then I looked down to see it was UNDER $100!!!! For the first time I could actually use my DEBIT card to pay the mechanic, instead of a CREDIT card?Hurray!!!

I understand that they specialize in Honda and Acura, but were happy to work on my Toyota.

My car is very well taken care of, and it ran good before I took it to the shop, but I noticed while driving home yesterday that it was running smoother than ever!

Kudos to my new sister-in-law for her referral, and I am so relieved to know that I finally have a mechanic I can trust, especially since I love my Camry and plan to keep it for many years to come.

Pros: Location, Honesty, Willing to take the time to explain repairs

Cons: It's not the Ritz, don't expect coffee service

Somebody recommended me to this shop, and I'm quite shocked of being taken as nothing! We made an appointment face to face. I told the dude so clearly that I take off from work at 6pm, and won't be able to get back before around 7, so he said the latest he could make was 9'o clock, we then agreed on a Tuesday "before 8" appointment. I drove there on time, and this dude just told me that they closed at 6pm and never work after that. And he SHOUTED at me about he was not working he was hanging out for dinner why I was there at such a late time and blahblahblah....I didn't talk back at all or say I was actually frozen there, since I didn't know many people overact like him that shouted to his client, who had an appointment with him in prior.

Fine, it is totally fine, of course everybody needs to take their meals, but why made the appointment with me? He said before 9 was "9AM". Jesus! I bet I confirmed with him to his face that I can be back at around 7pm AFTER work!!! I'm not sure if he just didn't want to confess that he didn't remember my appointment or something

I'd trust everybody else here that he might be a good mechanic or whatever, but he has really horrible manners to his clients. Is it my fault that not knowing they close at 6pm so that an appointment at 7 is just his joking with me or something?

Anyway, I keep away from this shop forever. There are plenty of auto repair shops around the area.

Based on the reviews, I've taken my car in there a few times now. Every time, I've been impressed by Doyle's honesty, professionalism, and reasonable prices for everything ranging from minor repairs to major overhauls. I feel lucky to have discovered A-1.

I was there last week because I noticed that my car was leaking oil. Found A-1 Auto on citysearch and read the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I was hesistant to go alone because I'm a young woman and I was afraid of being taken advantage of. You can imagine how relieved I was when I met Doyle. He was very friendly and told me exactly what was wrong with the car (oil filter was not correctly tightened). He replaced the filter and filled up the oil. He only charged me $20 for the whole thing. When I handed him my credit card because I didn't have enough cash, he said he didnt want to charge my card for such a little amount and said I could pay him cash whenever I was in the neighborhood again!! Now thats a first. Well, its been a little over a week and my car no longer leaks oil and my pockets are still full. I will definitely go to him again if need be and will recommend him to others.

I certainly did not have the experience below. Doyle (although difficult to understand on the phone) was efficient in working with me and my car. I was anxious about being taken advantage of simply because I'm a woman, but he replaced my car's exhaust system for $200 less than a place I had previously taken it to. To assure that I wasn't being taken, he placed my very-rusted-exhaust system in my trunk to prove the needed repair, since I was at work and couldn't be there to request verification of repair necessity. Although it took two full days for the repair to be complete, I felt satisfied with the service. I would recommend A1 auto to others.

Having moved several times and as a female, finding a reliable mechanic isjust as important as finding a good doctor. Doyle provides quick service, honest appraisal, fair prices, and great customer service. Only once was there a minor delay with my car and he was very upfront about explaining it (not making excuses) and had his servicemen bring the car to me. What refreshing customer service!

When I stopped into Doyle's place of business I was a wreck.I'm a old lady & you hear horror stories about mechanics taking advantage. Well, not here! He is honest, caring and best of all very reasonably priced. I would recommend you to take your car there anytime it needed. Oh and NO I'm not his Mother. LOL

PROS: Gave very close estimate to actual cost. Work done in time promised.
CONS: I forgot to request parts that were replaced....Hubby told me that.

Doyle used to be the reason we took our cars to S.M. Motors When he left several years ago to open his own shop we were thrilled. This man is honest, careful, skilled, underpriced for the area and an all around nice guy..almost unbelievable. EVERYONE we know who has taken their car to him never goes anywhere else if they can help it. He once repaired my Honda and upon discovering that the item he repaired was under warranty, he REFUSED MY MONEY!!! I love this guy!

PROS: HONEST..highly skilled, INEXPENSIVE..what else is there? Super nice..
CONS: everyone is starting to know about this place now...used to be less crowded

Have to say the most honest, upfront mechanics in LA. Shopped around to 4 shops, Doyle was the most attentive to ALL my questions and saved me TONS all while doing the job in 1 day. He truly appreciates the business and gives you the straight talk without all the talk about scare tactic talk about looming issues abour your car that you MUST fix now.

Doyle Sharp runs the tightest ship in the auto repair world. Doyle is a master of knowledge of everything Honda (& Acura) and can fix any car from an old 70's Prelude to the latest Ridgeline. He knows each model's tendency (don't get the 4WD CR-V, get the 2WD) and can make diagnoses almost instantly.

I'm sure you could find a cheaper mechanic, but Doyle is very straightforward and doesn't try to cheat you. It's better to pay a little more (still far less than a dealer and most Santa Monica repair shops) and not have to come back for a while.

PROS: Expert, Honest, Straightforward
CONS: Only Hondas

We've been taking our cars to Doyle for years. We've had Acuras, Lexus and Hondas during this time and he has incredible expertise on not only these, but all cars. We've followed him from shop to shop because no one is better. He is so honest that once when he checked out my car and later realized the necessary repair was covered under the warranty he wouldn't take my money.........this guy rocks! Hate to give away our secret, but he deserves the business!

these guys are top notch. i've been looking for a mechanic that i actually trust out in LA for a while and finally found a home. plus they can basically work on any kind of car. i trust them with my lexus as much as my jeep cherokee. doyle and dave (you will meet them both AND they will remember your name) are a heck of a team.

I highly recommend using A-1 Auto. The mechanic is the most trustworthy I've ever come across. I've been taking my car there for 4 years now and have referred about 5 people. Well not only have those 5 become customers, but they've referred their friends too. Get the picture? This place makes a business out of good referrals. Your car will be fixed fast and it won't cost you an arm and leg. The service is friendly as well. He'll even show you the part he replaced and explain why he replaced it. I would send my grandmother to this guy, that's how confident I am in his work and competitive prices. Only con I can come up with is the waiting area isn't much to write home about, but since he doesn't keep you waiting, it's a non-issue. Time and money is spent on the customer, not the atmosphere.

I personally believe that dealership service departments will gouge you every time. Not true with Doyle, who was part of the Bev Hills Acura service dept. some years ago, but has since repented for his sins by opening a small, independant shop. Doyle has incredible Honda/Acura expertise. He is also friendly, patient, honest and knows that saving his customers money whenever possible keeps them coming back.
