If you're looking for an elegant night out, Sonoma Chicken Coop is probably not for you. However, if you like good food and you don't mind carrying it to your table yourself, this is the place to eat! Once you get past the cafeteria style ordering system and actually taste the food, Sonoma Chicken Coop is a no frills, taste-tempting delight! The food is ten steps above the normal family-type restaurant with interesting daily specials and yummy menu staples like Chili Lime Grilled Chicken. Noisy enough to take the kids, this is one restaurant where the whole family can relax and enjoy some delicious food.

I had high expectations when I went here for the first time. I was disappointed. The food is nothing special. There is no service. You have to order the food at the front and then carry it yourself to your table. My daughter's field hockey team has their banquets in the upstairs room and the sound of the orders constantly being called over the loud speaker is very disruptive. The best part of this place is the beer, there was a brewery at this location before the chicken coop took over and thankfully they kept the brewery....go for the beer, not the chicken.

Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell is a great low- to mid-priced addition to the eating establishments in downtown Campbell. I've had many lunches here, sometimes with my girlfriends and sometimes with my kids, and I've always ordered salads. I've never been disappointed. The salads are so creative and they use the freshest ingredients. My kids love their reasonably priced kids' menu and they always ask to eat here. I like the lively ambience and the serve-yourself cafeteria style. If it's a busy lunch day (which it almost always is), there usually is a line to order but it always moves fast and your food is served quickly also. I definitely recommend this place for a quick, reasonably-priced lunch.

Campbell is getting very popular. Often times when I want to go to Molly's or Mio's they're so crowded we have to wait. That's when we go to the coop. This is about as laid back as a restaurant can be. It is not a date place, it is not fast food, but a strange in between, cafeteria style restaurant. You go up and order your food and pay. When your food is ready, it gets called out on a loud speaker. You get your forks and drinks out of a dispenser on the side. Sounds like fast food right? Well, your table is like any other sit down restuarant. There's carpet and nice seats nothing plasitc about it. But if you don't like hearing numbers called out on a loud speaker while you eat, this place might not be for you. The food is average at best. You can see them pumping out the orders as they come in. I think most of it is prepared ahead of time they have to heat it up and serve. The salmon was dry and a bit bland. The steaks are thin and chewy. But the lasgna is great with two different types of style on one plate and the omlettes are great too. So it's kind of a hit or miss at this place. One thing you'll appreciate is the price. I think everything there is reasonably priced, and for a sit down place with no tip, it helps out too.

Order at the counter, find a seat, pick up your food when the pager rings, enjoy!

I really like this place, it's casual, good food, fun music on the weekends.

Upstairs really separates large (loud) groups from just a single tables.

Busy on the weekends, pretty chill most other times.

It's worth trying out, most of my meals have been what i expected or better.

It's OK. Not a place I'd go to though. Food is fine, waiters/waitresses are very helpful, but something isn't right. There is a pretty long line in the evenings, but I think it's worth it. Not really a party place though.

Like I said it's OK.

Pros: Service, food, and value

Cons: everything else that there might be.

This restaurant chain is so bad! There is a reason why the food is so cheap. If you don't have taste buds and enjoy getting sick then this is the place for you. Unfortunately I have had to eat here and the SJ location and they are both horrible. Only eat here if you need to lose weight fast and aren't lucky enough to catch a stomach flu.

Cons: Food and Service

First time I went I was sort of on a vegetarian kick and ordered a salad.. like a cobb salad or something similar. What a surprise, it was quite good, had little pieces of chicken and an orchid on top for decoration.
So next time I ordered the 1/2 chicken special. I really like that it comes with a side dish and I got the pesto pasta. My daughter ordered the salmon. Good value.
The place was bigger than it looked from outside so I guess large groups could be accomodated

Pros: You can refill your drinks, salad came with an oyster

Cons: Not sure about the service, because you order at the register and they bring to table

Sonoma Chicken Coop is one of the best places for a fun casual dinner. They have a very wide menu, and everything there is great. My personal favorite is the Chicken Carbonara and the grilled artichoke. This is a "Self-Serve" type restaurant. You place your order at a counter, and then find a table and wait for your number to be called. It can get very busy and noisy on the weekends, so not a great first date type place. But a lot of fun for friends.
